1. He floats so it's easier to animate
2. 06 and Rivals just came out
3. Shadow was already an assist trophy and Amy was not treated well at all between the years of 2002 and 2017
Tbf that’s not really the exact same. The way the characters are in that is just kind of Sonic’s cartoonish interpertation of who he views thise characters to be similar to.
I think a good comparison would be George Orwell’s animal farm. It’s a bunch of animals but the characters are very clearly inspired by the events of the Russian Revolution. You can also clearly see who’s Lenin, Tsar Nicholas, Trotsky and Stalin.
It’s number 2 mostly. Smash bros stages are heavily influenced by the most recent released games. Mario sunshine is heavily referenced in Brawl because Galaxy hadn’t come out yet during the prime months of its development.
I don't quite get what you mean but iirc correctly Amy was helping Silver without knowing his target is Sonic, when she discovers this, she's upset with Silver because she thought he was a good person. Admittedly her dialogue rather paints her as not caring about the world, with her responding to Silver's reasoning that Sonic will end the world by saying "I don't believe it! Even if that was true, if I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I'd choose Sonic" I don't think they interact after that
It’s really just because cameo roles like this (and assist trophies) are given to popular characters who couldn’t make the cut. It’s basically just throwing a bone to the fans. Silver is a lot more requested for Smash than Amy, thus he got the nod instead of her.
To the extent of my knowledge, the only Sonic games Sakurai played before adding Sonic into Smash were Sonic 1 and Sonic 06, which Silver was a big part of the latter
Sakurai has stated that part of his philosophy when making Smash games is to leave characters’ movesets largely unchanged, not wanting to alienate fans of those fighters. This is why characters like Sonic, as well as Ganondorf or Mario, who are agreed to not properly represent their character or home series, have remained so unchanged
Probably because Sonic 06 was the most recent major Sonic game during Brawl's development.
So seeing Silver makes sense.
Tails and Knuckles are a no-brainer, and Shadow was an assist trophy so he didn't need to show up twice.
Amy probably didn't show up because she wasn't very liked or popular during this time in Sonic's history.
Cause Amy wasn't treated very well at the time.
And brawl was made post-Rivals so they're pretty much using ported models of the characters who appeared in that game, minus Shadow.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl had incredibly shit timing, BTW. Because Sonic '06 came out two years before Brawl, and it was critically *panned* for failing to address any of the actual issues people previously had with the Adventure series, Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog, and instead made them *worse*.
The old developers simply shilled him at the time of release. Sega had control over how sonic brand appeared in smash. From my pov, creators associated with silver always shill him at the expenses other characters, fans, or quality. After the shilling, they usually fuck up spectacularly. Then a reckoning comes and silver disappears for a bit.
Is there a strong association between people in charge liking silver and the series falling over itself? Maybe, not a question I want to ask right now. What I do want is for less stupidity.
Brawl Sonic's model was inspired by Sonic 06 as that was the most recent mainline Sonic game at the time. And Silver was the big new character of that game.
I always thought these stage cameos made no sense. Like why is Knuckles in Green hill? Shouldn't he be on angel island? And silver should be in the future. Limiting the cameos to like Tails, Amy, and some else would make much more sense.
The character apperances don't even make sense in the actual canon games, so why would you expect them to make sense in a crossover where most character appearances make no sense whatsoever??
1. He floats so it's easier to animate 2. 06 and Rivals just came out 3. Shadow was already an assist trophy and Amy was not treated well at all between the years of 2002 and 2017
black knight amy was alright atleast, even if she was a water mystic lady or something like that- (it's been a while)
I don't really consider that the same person
that's fair
Yeah but like. On a meta level that’s still part of how she was treated, isn’t it?
Tbf that’s not really the exact same. The way the characters are in that is just kind of Sonic’s cartoonish interpertation of who he views thise characters to be similar to.
also very fair
I think a good comparison would be George Orwell’s animal farm. It’s a bunch of animals but the characters are very clearly inspired by the events of the Russian Revolution. You can also clearly see who’s Lenin, Tsar Nicholas, Trotsky and Stalin.
>water mystic lady I believe the technical term is “Watery Tart”
It’s number 2 mostly. Smash bros stages are heavily influenced by the most recent released games. Mario sunshine is heavily referenced in Brawl because Galaxy hadn’t come out yet during the prime months of its development.
I mean...I would say she was well written in 06 and Unleashed
Legally I'm not allowed to stop you from saying that.
I like the implication that the law is what's stopping you from voicing your opinion.
No, the law is only stopping me from giving you what your opinions deserve.
What country you in where you can’t voice your opinion?
Who said that was what I can't do?
You did when you said the law stops you
That's not what that says
You said the law stops you saying what you would about the opinion. You’ve basically stated that. Let’s not split hairs to try to change what you put
I don't remember but does she regret her actions helping silver? Or did she just flip on dime and was like "nope" your wrong. Back off or else..?
I don't quite get what you mean but iirc correctly Amy was helping Silver without knowing his target is Sonic, when she discovers this, she's upset with Silver because she thought he was a good person. Admittedly her dialogue rather paints her as not caring about the world, with her responding to Silver's reasoning that Sonic will end the world by saying "I don't believe it! Worth noting that Amy was playable in the Sonic Advance Trilogy
Exactly! Misogyny! Also those two sensible reasons, but mostly misogyny!
Silver was just the highlight of that era, so they promoted him. If it wasn't silver, it probably would have been jet the hawk or blaze realistically.
I mean I’d absolutely trade Silver for Blaze but that’s just me
Not really, else Rouge and Blaze would’ve been canned as well…
Sega really was like Amy: 😴 Rouge: 🤩 For 15 years straight, huh?

"Amy was not treated well at all between the years of 2002 and 2017" You can say that to Big. Amy, though? Not so much.
No I can say it about Amy actually
Probably because 06 was the most recent mainline Sonic game at the time of Brawls development.
So modders wouldn't have to make a Silver model.
It’s really just because cameo roles like this (and assist trophies) are given to popular characters who couldn’t make the cut. It’s basically just throwing a bone to the fans. Silver is a lot more requested for Smash than Amy, thus he got the nod instead of her.

I love Sakurai, but I think I'm curious to see what another creator would do with the Smash series- especially so he can retire.

He's just cooler
Cause silver is fucking awesome
Hell yeah
Pretty sure this was just as Sonic Rivals was coming out?
06 came out by the time Brawl was released, so he was very relevant at the time.
Rivals models with new textures, Amy isn’t in Rivals
Cause Amy wasn't treated very well at the time. And brawl was made post-Rivals so they're pretty much using ported models of the characters who appeared in that game, minus Shadow.
Amy had no rep back in those days sadly
Maybe because silver's theme "dream of an absolution" has a green hill zone leitmotif ?
Silver was a new character so I guess Sakurai wanted some Silver representation in Brawl.
PS2 Tails
Super Smash Bros. Brawl had incredibly shit timing, BTW. Because Sonic '06 came out two years before Brawl, and it was critically *panned* for failing to address any of the actual issues people previously had with the Adventure series, Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog, and instead made them *worse*.
Silver was relevant, Shadow was an assist trophy, probably wanted to avoid a possible upskirt shot of Amy as well.
06 was the most recent game at the time, so ot was just relevancy
At the time, Sonic 06’, despite negative criticism, was the biggest and most recent game in the series
The old developers simply shilled him at the time of release. Sega had control over how sonic brand appeared in smash. From my pov, creators associated with silver always shill him at the expenses other characters, fans, or quality. After the shilling, they usually fuck up spectacularly. Where’s this?
The Green Hill Zone stage in Smash Bros.
I knew that.
Then why did you ask?
I always thought these stage cameos made no sense. Like why is Knuckles in Green hill? Shouldn't he be on angel island? And silver should be in the future. Limiting the cameos to like Tails, Amy, and some else would make much more sense.
Bro, they appear in a game that makes characters regain health by eating tomatoes, c'mon. .. Smash is fucking awesome tho.
But tomatoes do give me life. :(
Pizza..?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The character apperances don't even make sense in the actual canon games, so why would you expect them to make sense in a crossover where most character appearances make no sense whatsoever??
Knuckles being there makes sense. He’s always hanging out with Sonic and Tails, who are both present
