It works for completing tasks or helping your mental health
Honestly theres a whole lot of good wisdom from jedi teachings (and sith teachings but dont tell anyone I told you that)
I’m not gonna lie I think about that quote a lot too when I’m reading or thinking about real world issues and trying to decide which side is right and such.
It might help to drop the "right/wrong" aspect when thinking about real world stuff. Makes you see things more clearly without emotion distracting your judgment.
You put years of time and energy into raising a child or training a protege, with the specific intent that they, eventually, will not need you. To become a master is to accept an inevitable future of loss.
This quote always reminds me of when Yoda is telling Luke to slow down in Empire.
# "A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away…to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing.""All his life has he looked away…to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing."
Also shows Yoda was basically force-sensing Luke as he grew up and knew what he was up to in a sense. His direction. Also a nice nod in the Obi Wan show when we see Luke not doing his Chores and playing speeder or fighter pilot instead.
Was going to say this. "..always in motion the future is." Is something I keep hearing over and over in the back of my mind. And I always listen to it when I need the most. Thanks Yoda. 👊
Not how I read that quote at all. That's a new one to me.
I read it as a recommendation to commit fully to whatever you're doing. If you commit halfway, you don't believe in it and you're not gonna get a good outcome.
So it starts even from a statement. Yoda has already told him it's possible. "I will lift the X-Wing" is the thing to commit to. It can take hours, days, hell even years. But Luke should have committed that way, not just say, "I'll try."
If **Yoda says he can do it**, but Luke only commits to just trying... then at a macro level he doesn't believe in his master, doesn't believe in the Jedi teachings, and doesn't believe in himself.
How can his actions possibly make the galaxy a better place if he doesn't believe in any of those things? He'd be just another man running around imposing his ego on the world, not a man of conviction on a worthy path. He can't get on that path... And even if he could, he'd fall off of it any time the going got tough.
Two from Luthen Rael:
“Rule number one: never carry anything you don’t control”. (For when Siri spies on me)
“Rule number two: build your exit on the way in.” (For when wanting an excuse to leave a social gathering).
"Acting out of anger offers quick results but it's a trap!" - Kanan to Ezra Rebels S03E01. Always helps to take a moment to think if this is really worth short term satisfaction at the potential cost of long term harm.
“Only a Sith deals in absolute’s” look at all things with reason and nuanced perspective.
Also, “Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.” I do a good job in general not to hate anything or every let anger overcome my judgement. By no means am I perfect at it, but I always keep that in the back of my mind
Funnily enough. Right now. The same as yours. Might be out of a job at the end of the month as the company is restructuring and reorganizing the team I’m apart of. And I’m anxiously awaiting to see what happens, and I’m trying to figure out the next steps if I don’t get either. Upside is if I don’t land back inside the company I get 8 weeks severance at my base salary. So plan is if that happens. Pay for the next two months rent upfront and next month’s bills, and take a well deserved one month vacation.
This is one of the best exchanges in all of the films. I always think about it. I like the Padawan/Master teaching-moments.
There is far too few of them.
There’s also a great line in a book. I think it’s one of Karen Travis’. Each chapter opens with a little paragraph. One of them is a quote from a republic news guy who has his own show. I don’t remember the exact quote but he’s making a reference to all the fluff attached to any information about the war, separatists, etc. it kind of goes “Words! We have so many, imagine if we only had a few, how much attention we would pay to those few. Instead we are overwhelmed by so many there’s no meaning to them.” Then it says -Name so and so, shortly before he disappeared. I think it shows how genius Sidious was in his takeover. He allowed the illusion of free speech and a free press to the point anyone asking the wrong questions or trying to warn people were just noise lost in the din of other noises.
Similar to this one I often find myself repeating Yoda's "All his life he has looked away; to the future, to the horizon. Never where he was! What he was doing!". I daydream and worry so much it can get overwhelming, and despite Star Wars being just a fictional Special Interest of mine it's always so comforting just saying "Stop, brain. You need to focus on where you are. What you are doing."
For me its that line but also continue to Obiwan saying “But master Yoda says to be mindful of my feelings.” Because Im just gonna overthink everything and there’s no winning.
I think about this one whenever I feel myself getting lazy.
"A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing"
“I don't like sand. It's coarse, rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.” - Me every time someone suggests taking my kid to the beach…or a playground with a sand pit…
"Do or do not. There is no try."
I can't stand "trying" or dabbling. If I do something I want to absolutely destroy anyone else via superior skill and dedication, even if it's just tying bloody shoelaces.
Any other approach is pathetic.
For a long time have I watched this one. All his life has he looked away to the horizon, the future. Never his mind on WHERE HE WAS, WHAT HE WAS DOING. - I say this to myself to keep me focused.
I learned to let go of things awhile back that were really bothering me. This one explains me.
***Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.***
'Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter' is something that resonates with me as a trans person because so many people will just try and define us by what our biology said we are instead of who we choose to be

This entire passage of Qui Gon's from the book Master & Apprentice sticks in my mind constantly
Youre on this council, but we do not grant you the rank of master. - What? How can you do this, this is outrageous, its unfair, how can you be on the council and not be a master.
Your focus determines your reality
Yeah definitely another one that’s relatable on the daily
It works for completing tasks or helping your mental health Honestly theres a whole lot of good wisdom from jedi teachings (and sith teachings but dont tell anyone I told you that)
Darth SonthacPanda! Is that you!
A lot of it comes from Buddhism and Stoicism.

*”The greatest teacher, failure is.”*
Honestly yeah. We learn from it or we’re at least supposed to.
No failure was ever wasted that was learned from.
It's honestly Yoda's greatest lesson and one of his best quotes
It is hard lesson to take to heart, but it is so true. …speaking as somebody in the midst of failure right now.
one of the better moments
Came here to say this
I’ve learned that a million and one things don’t work. Maybe a million and one more and I’ll find out what does work!
"... you're going to find that many of the truths we cling depend greatly on our own point of view."
That line is one of the clumsiest lampshades ever written but is simultaneously one of the most profound lines written in the entire franchise.
It's edgy if you forgive the haphandness. It works way more than you'd expect.
I’m not gonna lie I think about that quote a lot too when I’m reading or thinking about real world issues and trying to decide which side is right and such.
It might help to drop the "right/wrong" aspect when thinking about real world stuff. Makes you see things more clearly without emotion distracting your judgment.
I have a bad feeling about this…
Bruh my post is getting downvoted. Like why? 💀
Thats just Reddit for ya
It’s a line from Star Wars. It’s in almost every movie….
Yeah I know it is. I’m just saying my post was getting downvoted for some odd reason you goof 😂
Well how the hell would I know why you’re getting downvoted? Man…. I was right. I had a bad feeling about this.
"Do, or do not. There is no try." Took it as a personal rule to motivate myself to never do things in a half-assed way.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes

Qui-Gon was so wise tbh
Qui-Gon Jinn would make a good acting coach.
Fly casual
Lmao definitely applicable when you’re smoking weed and pass by a cop 😂
We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters.
This is the best line of star wars dialogue that Disney has put to film! It resonated with me instantly and comes back to me often now I have a child
I never understood the meaning behind this line. What does he mean by this?
A good teacher trains his students to be better than himself or at least that's how I took it
You put years of time and energy into raising a child or training a protege, with the specific intent that they, eventually, will not need you. To become a master is to accept an inevitable future of loss.
The job of a parent or teacher is to help the child to grow so the child will eventually be able to be independent.
Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.
Do you use that one online a lot? 😂
My name is more of a reflection of how I use Reddit to procrastinate.
"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." *nodding while coming down from mushrooms*

TLJ quotes in here are top-notch.

Lately? This deal is getting worse all the time!
And honestly - “Do, or do not. There is no try.” Approach everything like success is an established fact. The confidence helps you succeed.

This is how I've always interpreted it too. Love the way you phrased it!
Failure is not the end… it is a necessary part of the path

I love that one too. It’s very relaxing.

Thank you OP, I needed to hear this today.
This is the way
Be mindful of your thoughts
Funnily enough. Right now. The same as yours. Might be out of a job at the end of the month as the company is restructuring and reorganizing the team I’m apart of. Here’s my best to you that things will get better 🍻
"Prepare to target the main generator".
I don’t like sand.
"Your focus determines your reality."
Anakin to Obi wan: "And where are you going?" Obi wan to Anakin, pointedly: "For a drink"
What if my anxieties are here and now?
Not just the men but the women and the children too 😏
holup
"...I am what remains..."
You may fire when ready (matter of factly spoken by Tarkin)
I hate sand
I killed them all. They're dead... every single one of them. And not just the men.
"We are what they grow beyond." (I'm a parent and educator and this line really spoke to me.)
You must unlearn what you've learned
I find your lack of faith... disturbing.
The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.
Sometimes I just don't understand human behavior.
Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?
Look at the size of that thing!!!! 😮
“Size matters not” …despite what my girlfriend says…
\*Lost\*. I am lost... And yet, I-I can \*feel\* his presence, so close. So close! I can... \*see\* him... in my mind's eye. Kenobi. KENOBIIIII!
Impatience for victory will guarantee defeat
Now release you anger.
"Do it"
"Your hate makes you powerful." *Small edit, it's "your hate has made you powerful."
This quote is me, always stressing about the future to the point where I'm depressed that I'm not doing enough in my life lol.
"Then I'll see you in Hell!"
“I have a bad feeling about this!”
"You want to go home and rethink your life"
This is the way
“I care!”

"NOOOOOOO"
Somehow, Palpatine returned.
Fuck yeah. Why not?
These aren't the droids we're looking for. Move along.
Basically everything Yoda ever said.
“Myself, the boy, two droids, and no questions asked” 😏

What if the here and now is causing anxiety?
Staying present is good but just a reminder that most of the Jedi were wiped out by a Sith that had an elaborate plan for the future.
Do, or do not. There is no try. I choose "do not" more often than not.
"He will avenge us."
"There is no try, do or do not"
Probably “Do or do not, there is no try.”
This one is spot on and great advice in general
I need to pass this quote on to my pregnant wife… 😂😂😂
I think about that Qui-gon quote from the gif at least once a week
Qui Gon: a solution will present itself.
Similar to this one I often find myself repeating Yoda's "All his life he has looked away; to the future, to the horizon. Never where he was! What he was doing!". Yup same.
my favorite quote is from Qui Gon Jinn "Concentrate on the moment, feel don't think, use your instincts"
"But I'm anxious about what's going on here and now!"
I'm out of it for a little while and everyone is having delusions of grandeur.
The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.
“Concentrate on the moment. Feel, don’t think. Use your instincts.” I have a stressful job, and I keep this in mind a lot
I think about this one whenever I feel myself getting lazy. "A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing"
