Pretty much never. I just don’t use it very often. I have used it a bit but most of my time is playing games that run off the hardware instead of being streamed. Since I have a gaming laptop it’s easy to move so I can easily move it where I need to and hook it up to a TV easily

~~95%? Since I never tried to run Moonlight out of local network.~~ ax 65% If I play games from Steam then the save files are synchronized and I can just play locally on SD when I am out and pick up with maxed out details and 10h+ battery life when I am at home. Some games like Cyberpunk or BG3 I never play locally on SD, only over Moonlight especially now with HDR streaming working usually at 1600p to get 2x AA. Edit: I checked and it is much lower than I expected, most likely because I play games like Pentiment, Animal Well or Hollow Knight exclusively on Steam Deck and streaming those makes no difference in image quality and battery life.

Double-Tea9556

This is the plan for me this week when my deck arrives. I just got super into Cyberpunk 2077 (GOG vers.) so I am just gonna steam link it.

radd00

I can tell you it works super well. At 800p you can really crank up that graphic settings

0xB5

With 800p I can run full Path Tracing, but I do not think it is worth it. That is why I usually run games at 1600p to get that sweet 2xAA. For some games like Sea of Stars it does not matter, but I run those locally on SD anyway.

TheNewFlisker

Maybe you could help me with Moonight since you got it working?

0xB5

Sure. But first try Steam Link from your host to SD just to check if the connection is fine and both devices can see each other.

TheNewFlisker

Link works great. Just an issue with Sunshine/Moonlight

elgringorojo

You need sunshine on your host pc as well. Their GitHub has a pretty easy walk-through.

TheNewFlisker

Already have. I just keep getting Host returned error: Failed to start the specified application (Error 0)

elgringorojo

Might need to assign a static IP

TheNewFlisker

Not sure how

Bootychomper23

Never my network does not work for streaming any games for whatever reason even with a good router 800mbs up and 1.5gbs down and average 40 ping. Can’t play GeForce now, xcloud or anything idk why.

RogueCereal

Just outta curiousity, you are using the 5ghz band yeah? 2.4ghz is garbage for game streaming, even with high download and upload speed

Bootychomper23

I have a dedicated 5ghz band with 4 extenders all over the house

tomkatt

Zero. I didn't buy the Deck to stream games, I bought it to play games locally and emulate PS2 and down. If I need to power on my PC, it defeats the purpose of using the deck for me.

_Synchronicity-

I'm treating my deck like a switch. When on the go, 720p max. When docked, 1080p via moonlight. So 50/50 for me.

Ordinary-Cake8510

I want to but, when I looked into using it outside of the house, I could not find a good tutorial that was easy to follow. I use it around the house from time to time but, sadly, never away.

gothvan

Did you try with steam remote? Make sure the hardware encoding on the client side is disabled. You’ll lose the steam deck UI while playing but it’s way more fluid.

Ordinary-Cake8510

I don’t think any of the videos I was watching mentioned Steam Remote. Will look that up and see what I can find.

hollywood__kills

All you need is this: [https://github.com/moonlight-stream/Internet-Hosting-Tool/](https://github.com/moonlight-stream/Internet-Hosting-Tool/)

Ordinary-Cake8510

Appreciate it. I will give this a try!

elgringorojo

For me it’s 90% AAA via moonlight/sunshine 10% Baltaro

New-Length-5001

Never tried it... Is it worth a try and what are the benefits?

gothvan

It depends of your PC from which you’ll stream the game to your SD. If it’s beefy you’ll be able to have much better performances and graphics on your SD.

New-Length-5001

thx for the information. My PC is quite old, so my SD has more power :)

phonkmandela

Zero. Internet too bad

The_4ngry_5quid

What kind of internet do you need for it? That's my biggest worry. Also, does it work better than Steam Link.

phonkmandela

No clue what kinda internet speeds you need but 100mb down while being in the same room as the device it's streamed from apparently wasn't enough

The_4ngry_5quid

Eeesh. Maybe it's more about consistency? What was your ping Edit: "Eeesh" as in "That's a high requirement!"

phonkmandela

Eeesh 30 I don't think that was the problem either

mcoollin

Important note that your Internet doesn't matter, it's your local network speed. You can have a 30 mbps internet plan, but with a wifi 6E Gigabit router you will get gigabit speeds for moonlight.

RuckFeddit70

About 75% and that ratio will likely increase in streaming's favor even moreso as the deck ages and less new games can run natively on it I'm playing FF7 remake and Elden ring through chiaki from my PS5 a lot lately

sadccom

Like 70%, I’m using the Jsaux dock with the 8bitdo ultimate controller and 1gb fiber @ 1440p and it literally feels like playing on a console with sunshine. Recently I’ve been playing smaller games like outer wilds handheld though!

Rags_to_Riches_19

My vpn keeps Sunshine and moonlight from working properly, even with split tunneling to exclude it. I have no idea what to do.

RslPride

Used moonlight for my Spider-Man 2 playthrough and that was it. I wanted to just play on the deck but it just couldn’t handle it. Outside of that streaming kinda defeats the purpose of the Steam Deck for me. I might stream more if I had a more powerful PC but it’s not enough to make up for the setup and the fact that I need to be on the same WiFi for usable performance

Mostcoolkid78

Never have

Gipfelon

i have a question here for moonlight users: how can i run moonlight and still have my custom steam input changes for different games? moonlight sends it's input as Dualshock or xbox input, therefore i can't use some inputs the steam deck has. how can i get access to all the functionality the steam deck has with moonlight?

JellyTheBear

I use SD only at home so it’s always Moonlight from my PC unless we’re playing multiplayer games and the 2nd player is on the PC.

I've tried it once when I first got it, because I also happened to have Game Pass, but my sub lapsed and I just haven't really seen any need to stream stuff from my desktop since everything I want to play runs well enough locally. Probably doesn't help that my home wifi isn't amazing, either.

--InZane--

Like 5% or less. I sometimes "stream" hogwarts legacy tom my TV using the deck so my gf can watch/interact.

spazzo246

95% of the time. Only time i play in handheld mode is when im traveling once a year

phonkmandela

I only tried the Xbox streaming tho maybe it will work with other platforms

Datdudecorks

0%. Only because on my pc I control the volume not by the speakers themselves but windows mixer. So half the time it’s at less than 40% and any stream is way too quiet.

HugueKas97

Around 30% I would say. If my deck can't run it at at 40fps at least, I better jusg stream it since remote has been flawless to me. I also depends on the mood and if wheter my PC is on or off

Zeth_Aran

It’s going to really depend on the game. I’m trying to get it set up for streaming to my living room tv so I can have that nice couch experience. But I’m running into weird snags even with the entire thing being set up for Ethernet? If I can figure this out, I’d like to be doing this often but it’s gonna take some work.

ChucksFkNSk

0% because the Deck is way more powerful than my old Thinkpad

Away_Combination6977

Never. My Deck is my only gaming device. 😊
