Sora is hands down my go to character. Used her for my solo run.
Vegetarians are easy to get along with as long as you find the orange glowing mushrooms.
Yeah, the vegetarians not eating the sausage plants because they are too meat-like is pretty extreme.
But I find it is so easy to gather and grow plentiful plants that everyone is pretty much vegetarian. The only meat I get is from dead bugs (or sausage plants in that biome). That lets me get better variety for the non vegetarians, but no one starves or goes hungry or even complains about variety, once my farms are established. I don't bother with ranching at all.
When I first started playing I had a few starve themselves to death because of this trait⦠I just make all vegetarian meals now, easy to maintain and everyone eats them. Dry out the meat and feed it to the doggos I tame
Doggos will eat any kind of meat after you tame them. I learn this when I had 50 tamed dogs and not enough meat. Bug meat and meat plant is acceptable food for them luckily.
There's a recent Steam Workshop mod that changes it so they'll eat meat if they're starving, but will take a large happiness penalty. That makes more sense to me.
Makes far more sense that way.
They shouldn't hold their principles over their literal life.
I get that there are some out there who claim they'd rather die than give up on their beliefs, but when they actually starve for the first time in their life, they'll do what needs to be done to live.
Unpopular opinion. I dont find the vegetarian perk bad. Ive got almost all the achievments except taming / animal ones as Ive never used meat as a source of food in the game. π Currently on my insane / chaos run.
I might give it a try. Im one survivor away from finishing Chaos Moon / Insane without harvesting grass, using any vegitables, fermenting anything, making any drinks, cooking any meals, butchering any animals (except hostile bugs for gas) or eating anything but sugar syrup & emerg rations πππ
I think the happiness debuffs and meltdowns arnt that punishing.
I didnt even give my people clothes, or armour.
Best they got was a gopd luck charm, respirtaor mask or emp umbrella ππ
I think most vegetarians do it because the meat industry is kind of fucked up when it comes to the treatment of animals.
If it came to a hunter/gatherer situation that thought process wouldn't exist.
My favorite is Sora; when Iβm using her she usually does all my hunting for me but doesnβt eat meat.

Lol I picked Sora too. I didn't know the vegetarian thing was actually a mechanic until she started starving.

Tbf, i eat meat but plant sausage is disgusting.
Grain soup is by far the easiest meal to maintain lol

Agreed, that and the fact that starvation is an extremely painful, slow, and agonizing way to die.
Sadly I bought this on sale on PSN. No mods for me :(

Definitely recommend taming a few animals even if you don't eat them because you get happiness bonuses for petting one or bonding with it.

Something tells me you would like Frostpunk if you haven't tried it already.
Ive beat it in its entirty & dlc on the hadest difficulty, cant wait for number 2 to come out. Make them eat sawdust!
Just finished the insane / chaos moon at year 4 with 39 meltdowns ππ
And here I give my survivors all the amenities they could ever want, rarely meltdown but they end up stuck for six or more years instead.
I think itβs a pro vs con thing. Food issue for a special skill. No one stranded on a planet is going to be picky about food!
Yeah it doesn't really make sense lol. I get the pro con thing, but they should make it something else, something that fits the narrative better.
To be fair last few play through aall they eat are berrys lol π

Yep, and they're not wrong. Even so, if it was their life or meat from a bad industry...well, it's not really a choice.
I haven't had too many issues. Usually, they just munch on berries or melons if I haven't kept up on vegetarian meals.
I think the idea is to add an element of difficulty. In winter or desert you cannot rely only on hunting food when you have a vegetarian.
You guys have meat? Must be nice...
Meat? My people only have Syrup. Eat it, or be gone. Not wasting time on cooking. Not until base is ready and well protected.
I let the vegetarians starve because meat eating is only acceptable diet in my colony. If they die, they die
Research hay sausages and let them eat cheap filling food that is 100% vegan. Or let them just starve and then you no longer have to deal with them.
