This bonus has been going on for 2 weeks, now. You kinda HAVE to not be paying attention to miss it. They had signs posted all over the stores at my local gamestops
No. I had values ranging from $2 up to $30ish…I got rid of some newer games that I didn’t enjoy that were only like 6 months old, and some Switch games really retain their value (Sonic, Donkey Kong, even South Park titles). Plus I got $90 for my Switch Lite.
Yes, but it also Increases revenue through new sales with the trade in credit, increases assets on hand with the new (used) items, and builds brand/customer loyalty.
But to be transparent, GME has been running the 50% bonus promo week 1-2 times a year for over a decade.
Exactly, it is an incentive to bring in more people in the stores, you can boost sales even reducing margins on markups if you get the right amount of new sales/trades, if they "sacrifice" 10M on reduced profits on traded games, let assume $25 each instead of $10, they "lose" 15 bucks in teory, but if that gives even +5% more sales on other goods, that can be easy more revenue and returning costumers, and maybe increase their newsletter base and for online business, that's important for reduce publicity costs.
If you look at vinyl records and the market they still demand lends credence that physical copies will be in higher demand, especially in the resale market
Records just became trendy again a few years ago; if that were a true indicator than other old media like VHS and cassettes would've also made a jump. Not to mention more universally usable in DVDs.
I believe it only holds true for records because of the old idiom of 'it sounds better on vinyl', likely due its analog nature.
The PS3 games haven’t been taken for trade in a while unless it’s one of the handful of highly sought after and limited print ones. They just don’t resell enough to warrant it.
They absolutely lied to you about the credit needing to be spent on new games though. You didn’t even need to spend it in the store. It applies to your pro account or a gift card and you can use it at any store or online 🤷♂️
Make no mistake, this is really really good and I’m glad i read this today. We need to get rid of the stigma that GameStop rips people off on trade in value
Edit: Appearently it was a limited time promotion, that stinks.
At least takes care of one of my two complaints about GameStop. Now he just has to make the Canadian site better by allowing people to get it shipped to their house instead of in store pickup
There are a ton of games I would love to play but did not have nor want to blow $70 a shot on when they came out. With Target and Best Buy reducing their hard copy footprints to only the newest big releases and with download versions being full price, if available at all, back stock at GS is the only reliable source. I would love it if my local GS acted more like my local collectibles shop and treated me like a member rather than a foot traffic consumer; let me create a pull list, send me notifications when my wish list games show up in the store, have a local wish list/wanted board to let other GS members know what gamers in the area want, incentivize that list, and if a xbox360 or Commodore 64 game shows up on that list, so be it. To say "games no one will buy" is to show ignorance of gamers.
Look at it as: every company, spend a good amount of money every year in publicity, give aways, discounts, promotions, trades like this are part of that "publicity" spending, the scope of every "discount/trade/gift" is to boost new sales, if that "loss" can generate 5% more revenue it's worth the pain. That can not only increase revenues but loyalty to, and can increase awareness of people that going in stores can be a pleasant experience and not forget they can increase their newsletter too, that's a way to steal clients from competitors too...
Exactly, is the same reason when I go to a store to pick an "offer" on something, usually I end up buying more than what I was planned entering the store... You go for spend 100 bucks in a new x product, and end buying x + y products or more...
This seems smart to me - create little artificial windows where an extra 50% is offered for trade ins, then people flock during those days because they want the deal. If they just offered 50% more all the time people would overlook it.

So it’s effective at all stores as of now ?
I think today, the 6th, was the last day. I got $275 for 10 games and my Switch Lite!
Wait what how did I not even hear about it till basically the last day?

Uggg. Wish I’d known.
Some things about GameStop will never change. Get emails about sales the last day of the sales when it's all picked over.
This bonus has been going on for 2 weeks, now. You kinda HAVE to not be paying attention to miss it. They had signs posted all over the stores at my local gamestops
27 per game? Jeez, lucky to get £4 in UK

Ah the console makes sense. Either way, you wouldn’t get nearly that much over here. A testament to how great their offer is no doubt!
Wow 90 is actually really good for a used lite.
Think the 50% increase offer was until the 6th but ask in store/online
I've also mentioned it to a few friends, word of mouth is a powerful thing!
That's why Wall Street is missing out, they always use word of ass
It's the most powerful
It was at my local stores yeasterday. Traded in 5 bought back 1 and absolutely delighted
My gamestop doesn't seem to lack games, why increase trade un value? I guess to get more people in the store.

I’m looking forward to ‘It plays better when Sony or Microsoft can’t shut off the server, or repossess my game.’
I love where this is going 🫶
My local store told me the trade in value needs to be spent on new games , and they wouldn't take PS3 or PS3 games :(

Maybe it's a Canadian problem... Tbh they barely knew what 50% promo I was talking about, or when it ended .
They barely knew? Usually you either know something or don’t.
Take a vhs player while you at it lol jk ps3 are not in high demand
Please come to UK. Please. Any easy way to buy from gamestop from. UK well Scotland
I traded in 9 XB1 games, 1 PS5 game, and an XB1 controller using this promo!
5 games and $128 for me.
Wow this is going to change the entire value of the marketplace, insane.
The best way to re-fill your inventory.

Dang, sold all 10 of my PS4 games last month and only got $12
You missed out on 6 bucks

Dude, that is such a great idea! I'm sure this should be something they could implement in their app (which would also help get more app downloads).
That's a Dope idea bro!! Please, let Gamestop know of this, contact them!!! Do it!!!👍👍👍
