Clark Ashton Smith’s *Zothique Cycle* is more properly (proto) Dying Earth than S&S but does bear the eldritch horror elements—and their relation to magic/supernatural—shared by Lovecraft/Howard as well as the later authors like Wagner/Leiber who’ve been recommended. I second those recommendations but favor Wagner over Leiber. You might also consider checking out Michael Moorcock’s *Elric* stories.

A Clark Ashton Smith story called "Prince Alcouz and the Magician" comes to my mind. Also any Elric novel :/
Gene Wolfe!
Isn't this a common trope to almost all S&S settings?
Yeah. A lot of it was in the same magazine that carried Lovecraft.
