I know people do that to anger Wehraboos, but this is not really different than all other bombings happened in WW2.It’s a war crime and no i don’t care if you think otherwise.

Mike-Phenex

Because the Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They have sown the wind, and so they shall reap the whirlwind.

Vylander

Who's saying those bombings aren't war crimes? Dresden is a terrible tragedy with countless civilian deaths, it's mentally disturbing to celebrate such a thing.

Mike-Phenex

Anybody who genuinely believes Dresden was a war crime is illiterate. It was a legitimate target for large scale bombing. It ain’t pretty but it works

foxyfoucault

It famously didn't work though? The campaign to break the German will to fight through targeting civilians was a failure.

Mike-Phenex

It wasn’t targeting civilians, it was targeting Transport and communication lines.

cardstar

Not really true, a massive part of German production towards the end of the war was turned towards stopping the bombing that wasn't being used for other war efforts. Did it break the will of the people? No. It never has. But did it stop them making tanks and other equipment instead of anti air efforts, yes it did.

realparkingbrake

> It was a legitimate target for large scale bombing Dresden had plenty of light industry that had all been converted to military production by that point. It was also a major rail hub for supplying the eastern front and for shipping victims to concentration camps. It was a legit a target as any other city where militarized production was taking place. Damn shame about civilian casualties, but as the old saying goes, don't start nothing ane there won't be nothing.

MadKlauss

What's your point?

What does that have to do with the Valentine tank?

Tetragonos

the perfect post doesn't exis....

MaximumBrilliant8241

Ah yes, happy Tank Infantry, Mk. III Valentine Mk. IX (6-pdr) day.

realparkingbrake

At least it was reliable, unlike some other British tanks of WWII. But it only stayed in production as long as it did because the Soviets liked them, otherwise it would have been another stopgap design eventually replaced by Shermans.
