I so agree. This is one of many reasons why Lover is a top five Taylor song for me. It just so beautifully encapsulates what it means to love someone. It doesn't ruin it for me that Taylor and Joe didn't work out in the end... She wrote a beautiful ballad about what it really is to fall in love. For the Eras Tour I made my husband a bracelet that said "can I go where you go" and it was the only bracelet he wore, and he keeps it on his nightstand and randomly slips it on every now and then. 🥰
The song has funny, self-deprecating lines that don't take love too seriously, but it's also so rich and affectionate. That table line is one of my favorites of hers too!
I agree with all of this! And about her and Joe… it absolutely did not ruin that song for me either. I was married for nearly 8 years. There was no infidelity, no major thing that happened that split us up. Just two people who married in their mid 20’s and were different people in their 30’s and were no longer happy together. There were so many tears from both of us realizing that the life we planned was not what was going to be our reality. Since then we’ve remained great friends and have both found amazing partners. Ironically, “Lover” is the song my partner and I have declared as our song. It just suits us perfectly and will always be my number 1! It’s such a truly beautiful song.
