Honestly this is pretty typical for most workplaces and I assume the same for schools It is likely they may give you an advance - don’t bank on it until they do

I didn’t receive a full wage for three months because they kept “missing the cut off date”. It was heavy. But most schools (as supply) don’t pay you until the month after, this is the norm. Frustrating so I empathise.

I once lost 50% of my wage because the payroll company the school contracted told HMRC I earnt 100k a year which sent them into a tax hungry tizz. I had to moan at the business manager, who spoke to payroll . I got an advance and then it was just recouped from my next pay packet. They should be able to do this for you.

I've been in a similar situation. They offered me a cheque advance. Hth

They'll sort it. Either through an advance or check or something. I've had this before. Honestly I would put some of the error on them. They should have informed you of that situation as you started, not after to allow you either to plan or to sort something with them. I had a situation once with a messy pay / tax and all that situation that the school couldn't sort, I happened to be at the MATs head office for a subject meeting so called into finance. They sorted it in 5 minutes. Next day I got a bollocking from the head for not letting them deal with it... He was a bit like that... A lot like that.

They should be able to advance you money and take it off your next pay. Explain your situation and your head should hopefully be accommodating. A school I worked at about 5 years ago did that for me and wrote me out a cheque. The next pay the amount was deducted.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to speak to someone on Tuesday. Next Monday’s a bank holiday.

pink_cherry_tree

April 24th isn't a bank holiday

Urkaun

Oh shit, you’re right. It’s the week after next. I wouldn’t have gone to work on Monday 😂

Won't you get taxed a shit ton if you get two lots of pay next month?!

MakingItAllUp81

Yes and no. Yes as in there will be more tax in May in this case, no as in it'll balance out and May pay will equal April+May if they were paid separately. The only thing this could impact over the course of the year is National Insurance (which is calculated week by week or month by month with no "memory"). However as (almost) all of us earn above the threshold, it won't make a difference over the course of the tax year.
