I think it’s navy blue.

bluseychris

It is a very dark blue paint. Doesn't have to use blue though, a neutral Grey base with celestium blue should cover it well.

Manicscatterbrain

COLOR THEORY TIME to paint shades of black, you want to add Blues to lighten. Grays to mute/ highlight REDS: You want to add violets( bright purple) to Highlight and blues to darken the tans: Add yellow to darken and pinks to highlight. Mix the paints, don't just slap them on. For the flag I HIGHLY reccomend you take the black and mix it with a dark purple, or a deep blue to give it a more gray hue to it. OR start with a midtone of a dark gray and add the highlights and shades to the mix. Test out on flat plastic if you are unsure till you get the right color and technique. Take a look at my post here titled "standard Berrer Old vs New" for results

choppytehbear1337

Using paint would be my guess.

I_might_be_weasel

Black paint.

Calm-Limit-37

Incubi darkness

Grizzly-Jack

I used black templar contrast paint on mine and really liked the results otherwise I would try corvus black rather than Abaddon black. It's a lighter black

Weaponscollector64

Do you have a image I could see please

Grizzly-Jack

Don't know if I can post it in the comments but check my profile page. I posted my command squad a few weeks back. I could have done a better job with applying the contrasts in one motion but I like the way the colors turned out

Very carefully. As another said, i'd base or in black, let if fully dry, mask that part and paint the rest, then do the aquila with white at the end maybe by cutting the masking away to reveal just where I wanted white paint.

Storm2552

Vallejo german dark grey, washed with nuln oil and then going over the most raised areas with mechanicus standard grey is how I'd do it.

NZStevie

I followed this guide : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAUG\_CBTMsI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAUG_CBTMsI) Talks about black around 2 mins in.

RonVuX

My guess is mixing something with abaddon black and use some paper to trial and error your way to a good blue black ratio.

Tiniestoftravelers

I'd base it in black, then leave that part alone.

AnAsianGuyWhoEatsDog

Unrelated, but those knee pads look stupid as fuck! Why would GW make his knee pads part of the clothing??? That shit seems so uncomfortable!

BountyHuntinBoba

Integrated knee and elbow pads have been a thing for over twenty years and they're actually quite comfortable. [Crye Gen1 Combat Pants](https://images.app.goo.gl/QLVNpA2Grrkqc5u98)

AnAsianGuyWhoEatsDog

Okay, ya got me, but idk the ones on the standard-bearer just look so…weird.

Soft_Somewhere_5162

Nuln oil. Lots of Nuln oil

Yakushimaru

I just used Flesh Tearers Red with mephiston red over it for the red and then Black Templar with Corvus Black over it for that dark blue/black and I'm fairly happy with how those bits came out.

HarlemHellfighter96

According the video in the link, they used Corvus black https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GTcpHYDZ7U8

drunkboarder

It's simple. Black templar, then corvax black on flat areas. No navy blue or paint mixing required. I got mine to match box art this way. Mediocre Hobbies has a video on this.

Turtle-dragon

Old trick from my college days is never use straight black mix brown and blue for a more interesting color that looks less flat

DungeonDelver98

Very carefully

twitch_embers

I used space wolves grey contrast and it worked wonders

Odd-Operation-8279

I just left those spaces be the primer and filled in the rest, they had a natural shine that looked good.

Sollapoke

Thats navy blue isn’t it?

With a brush. You have enough actual advice for this not to be allowed methinks 😁
