You will never find the cure for stupidity.

PortalKill

Its contagious

thatdudewithknees

Stupidity? I have never ever heard of this game until today and going to the steam page there is nothing to suggest that it isn’t released today. It wasn’t until I scrolled down to the reviews when I found out that the game isn’t released yet. I guess I’m too stupid for not knowing information I was never told. Even the steam page says released 30th June btw.

Notlostonlysortof

Steam should change the text to show preload, not play, however: The first image shown on steam, shows predownload and launch time. Also shows predownload and launch time under events and announcements.

srcsm83

Yeah you're right that the steam page should've had some "unlocks July 2nd" date clear as day. That usually is the case, but maybe something about a free to play game and how they just have a "play now" button thing (and no purchase) + releasing it for pre-load (and launch being restricted only in-game) made it different from a regular release pre-load or... something? But yeah I think the stupidity claim is towards the people who go around saying "fake release date" and making bad reviews over this :)

reinaldons

We all do stupid stuff here and there, the problem is not taking accountability when you assume something that isn't true and leaving a negative review raging the company fooled you. Nothing mislead anyone there, just admit that you tried to play a game without any interest in checking the page of the game. The first image of the game is the dates and times of the release, and the latest announcement is the dates with the thumbnail being the dates.

thatdudewithknees

I didn’t leave a negative review, I’m simply saying that it isn’t as obvious as people say

boopitydoopitypoop

Like how fucking stupid it is that there is noo way to exit the game when you launch it and it goes to the preload screen with release times?

Saerdna76

I got an e-mail from Steam saying an article from my wishlist has been released. Pretty weird if you ask me.

unibrowcowmeow

got the same email, felt very misled. Maybe a screw up on steams side of things?

SOLIDAge

No very simply the game "released" in the eyes of Steam because they released a package for you to download. That triggers the email. So this was to pre-download the game and have it ready for Tuesday. All they have to do is flip a switch on the servers to allow people to play.

Aastnethoth

Are you the solidage from the wayfinder discord?

SOLIDAge

Yes.

DestinyMlGBro

Are you him? Or are you HIM

boopitydoopitypoop

You know pre loads arent new on steam? An they have a "preload" button instead of "play" button they used?

SOLIDAge

I didn't say Steam didn't support preload, but Nexon clearly wanted the unencrypt the files beforehand and be able to push updates as needed leading up to launch which this allows them to do. Pre-loading is mostly used when a retail CD key exists, which doesn't in this case.

a_lot_of_aaaaaas

I didn't knew the game to be honest. It appeared in my "newly released" games tab on xbox. Which means the game is playable. It's not. This is indeed misleading since every single other game is in the "soon availeble" tab. So now even before the release it already leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it's a mistake that can be. But it pretty sucks when you think you are installing a game you can play. Could have installed a other game instead.

unibrowcowmeow

Yeah I installed it over night and was super excited for a surprise early release and I feel a little lied to

Electronic_Wealth_67

Trailer says the release date.

Bourbonheart

Same via playstation.

STylerMLmusic

Same. It releases today according to the email steam sent me.

d4nger_mouse

Its not that clear on the steam page. Its fine for people like us who have followed the game and know its July 2nd but I get he confusion. Thats probably more of a steam issue though I guess

Evers1338

No not really a steam issue, they just actually released the game on steam instead of doing a regular preload (not sure why though). You can see that by the game allowing reviews (steam does not allow reviews before a games official release date) and that you are able to click play (steam will not install a preloaded game until release).

BE4RCL4VV

FWIW The release date on Xbox is also showing 6/30.

feelin_fine_

I just looked at it and it clearly said July 2nd

social_sin

Same with PS5. I saw it today and was like oh shit they did a surprise early drop fuck yeah. Then became immediately disappointed when I realized it was just predownload even though I still wouldn't have been able to play it till the 2nd when I get back lol. Like I knew it always said it was coming the 2nd but rhe wording and the "available now" portion felt like a "Ha gotcha!"

d4nger_mouse

Ah. That explains it. Seems like a stupid thing to leave a negative review for but I understand the confusion. People love a review bomb these days.

feelin_fine_

The store page directly on xbox says July 2nd so I just assumed it was a predownload or something. Really isn't that misleading or confusing. Of all the things I'm gonna get triggered by today, this isn't one of them

d4nger_mouse

We're talking about steam.

feelin_fine_

Same response.

srcsm83

Unfortunately the store page does not directly say July 2nd on steam, [as you can see here.](https://i.imgur.com/3LzO2Ay.png) But yes, it's definitely odd to get riled up, make flamy topics and bad reviews over it, even if I understand the confusion.

d4nger_mouse

On steam it's misleading. Not a big deal but I can see how people got confused.

a_lot_of_aaaaaas

On xbox it's misleading too. It's in the "newly released tab" and not in the "soon availeble" tab. Indeed not a very big deal but nobody is going to look further to find a release date since it is in the "new games" tab.

Necessary_Flamingo72

It also says the release is 30/06/24 on playstation too Could be a fault somewhere

Dealz_

I’m not sure how it works on Steam, but due to the game being free, that is the reason the release date is wrong. After completing the pre-load the game can be started, but the game servers won’t be up till the 2nd, normally after a pre-load of a paid game you’re stuck with a countdown till the game unlocks at the release date/time then you get a notification that the game is playable.

Necessary_Flamingo72

I know its not playable until the 2nd. I'm just saying that it also says that on psn so it could just be a mistake or fault somewhere

ilovetowrite555

steam shouldn’t have done anything. if you click “play” just like on ps5, you are directed to the pre download screen.

Commercial_Brush_756

I saw a dude claiming in a YouTube video about the game that it doesn't look like the game will endure since there's barely anyone playing it... That was yesterday...

Koagz

Room temp IQ in Antarctica with the heating off and no fireplace.

Grand-Depression

Steam allows pererelease downloads, they didn't use that option. They selected full release.

Sparkieee

I'll be fair, I saw an AD on Youtube that didnt have the release date in and I went to steam and was like wow its out today? Neat, got halfway through the download and through my research realised it wasn't for a few more days. It's easily doable tbh. No big deal though more time to do some reading on what hopefully will be a solid game that im now very much looking forward to.

sillilillipilli

to be fair it is a bit confusing how it is on steam right now because the button says "play" not pre download or anything that indicates that it is a pre download. Everyone is not on reddit or youtube or discord and aware that today is the pre download date. I knew it was pre download and still got confused for a second why steam said "play"

KnightofaRose

It was a really weird decision to do it this way, to be fair. I didn’t have the release date memorized, just knew it was coming up soon, and saw that it was available this morning, so I downloaded it and started it up. It even started what seemed like an intro cutscene, then threw up the “releasing in two days” popup… which, mind you, has no way to exit the program, forcing me to ctrl+alt+delete in order to close it. My genuine thoughts in the moment were, “Oh. Well, that’s shitty and frustrating.” I’m sure I’m not alone in that.

Total-Satisfaction-8

Preload is up on psn so i don't think It's a scam or anything, got the the same email as others, got an email about the open beta aswell as the closed one awhile back, nothing fishy

noCapNinja

That happens when people don’t read.

HCarralez

I mean I get you to an extent as I do think it’s a bit stupid how people presumed they just randomly decided to release it early despite numerous sources for reveal dates and news about the pre-download BUT I also have to remember that’s from my perspective as someone who’s been following this game for a bit. As the games getting more and more popular, the sub increases its numbers which means entirely new faces to the scene. That’s why we’re seeing a huge influx of people making posts asking super obvious questions because they’re new to all of this and not as informed as we are. It does feel silly but regardless has a justification.

coldfries_69

Steam review bombers are a different type of breed... Reviews have become less and less useful, to the point where i don't even bother looking at them, especially not when i can just play the game for myself for free.

Starsidenews

This happens on the Google play store any time a game has a pre download I honestly have no idea how people can be so stupid.

Evers1338

Well I kind of get it, if people are not aware the way they are doing this is highly unusual for steam. Usually preloading on steam means you are downloading encrypted files that get decrypted on release date, you can't press the play button (because nothing is installed) and you also can't write reviews until the actual release (as steam doesn't allow reviews before the actual release date) and on the store page and your library it will tell you when the actual release is. So if you are not aware of the release date and just stumbled across it on steam for example this looks like a regular already released game so it will come as a surprise when you launch the game that you see a screen telling you it's not released yet as technically this is a released game on steam, not a preload.

Ok-Present-8619

On PS5 its clearly stated that release is in 2 days. I've to check steam also but I think people are just dumb. That's it. Dumb and failed reading class at age of 5. Edit: yep, just checked, scroll a bit down and there's info about pre download from today. People are dumb.

_Mett_

lol what a dumb comment. Date is fine on ps5 so that means people on steam are dumb coz they got scamed about date ?🤣

Ok-Present-8619

Another Muppet here I see. Read the rest or use text to speech if you have problems.

Evers1338

It doesn't matter what the announcements say, what matters is what steam says. And steam says that the game is already released (hell steam send out an email today to everyone that has the game on their wishlist that the game is released). And again, on steam the game is actually released, not preloading, it is really fully released. It's just that the servers aren't online.

Ok-Present-8619

On steam in the news feed there is a big icon/hyperlink to pre upload info explaining everything. As I said before, reading skills are very rare in these times. You can't argue with that, everything is on steam. You don't have to be aware of release date at all. Just scroll twice and read. I know it's hard, maybe painful and requires text to speech app for some, but hey. It's not that hard at the end.

Evers1338

Ok then let's get through it: On the steam store the game shows up in the "newly released" section with the release date given as 30.06. and games do not show up in this list unless they are actually released. On the steam store page there is no banner that says "this game will release in 2 days" as it would with any game that is not yet released . On the steam store page it prominently says under the review score that the game released on the 30th of June. Steam send out an email to everyone that has the game on their wishlist that the game got released. The game has reviews which is impossible on steam if a game is not yet released, reviews on steam are only enabled once a game has officially released. Once you add the game to your library and sort by "day of release" steam again tells you that the game was released on the 30th of June. After you are done downloading the game it gets installed, which again is impossible on steam unless a game is released. After the game is done installing you can click "play" which again is impossible unless a game is released. All of this is telling people that the game is released because this is how steam works. Yes there is a community announcement that says that the preload is live and in that announcement is an image that says that the launch will be on the 2nd of July but most people do not read community announcements and any other info on steam is clearly stating that the game is released. And it's funny that you argue with "reading skills" and "all the info is there" and then conveniently overlook all the instances where steam clearly says that the game got released on the 30th of June, which are far more prominently displayed then the community announcement that the vast majority of players never look at. Now why is steam telling everyone that the game is released? Because it is, for some reason instead of a normal pre load the devs decided to actually just release the game today on steam and just have the servers not active yet.

StatusMath5062

On xbox the release date is today and It says play now and when I open the game I cannot play it. Didn't know anything about this game I just saw it being advertised and everything pointed to it being playable right now. So yeah coming from someone who's just browsing the front page of xbox that's pretty bad design and decision making

spiffzap

yeah this is 100% on Nexon. there are ways of allowing people to pre-download games on Steam without it showing as actually being released. Nexon should have researched this instead of putting the barrier inside the game

Brodlight1980

I think y'all blind or can't read it's been on YouTube July 2 with your time zone for the last two week

LuckPsychological893

Buddy not everyone on steam randomly looking for a game was following this game for the past two weeks. Right, what a surprise, we arent the only person in this world Ive known the release is on July 2, but acting like everybody knows the release date for this game like it's a mandatory thing is ridiculous. As an example, I bet you don't even know what game Norland is, when is it releasing and is there going to be any pre download, do you?

Commercial_Brush_756

"As an example, I bet you don't even know what game Norland is, when is it releasing and is there going to be any pre download, do you?" No, I don't. But if I found this game, I'd look for more information before just blindly downloading it. I found out about TFD three days ago, that same day I discovered that it would launch July 2nd and there would be a pre-download in June 30th. It's the Internet, search and you'd find the relevant info.

LuckPsychological893

Nexon clearly made a mistake releasing the game on steam as a full release (Wow amazing, Nexon wasn't able to use internet on how to release game properly and set it as a pre download rather than a full release, they could have gotten a relevant info) Anw, hope they don't mess this game up

1234thumbwarpaper

I got an email from steam and the subject line was "TFD is now available on steam!" So yeah

_Mett_

Well someone fck up. You need to realize that not everyone is searching every bit of information about game so people just dont know if its out or not. Steam tells them that launch is on 30/6 lol

BloodMoonScythe

I can start the game and log in on xbox, but it tells me zo come back when it released on july 2. Also the game already has 50 reviews and has i think 4 stars, but all the reviews are talking about the pub test run.

Sodaman_Onzo

It was the wording of the advertising. It says “Play Now,” for a free download for a game we can play July 2nd. Not a big deal for me, but for some “Play now” means Play now.

LeoTeyl

It's cuz steam doesn't have a "pre download" tag. It's either not released or released. So everyone with it on their wishlist got an email saying it released today.

CallM3N3w

Because they are using mobile tactics. By all intents and purposes, the game is out, but they'll only open servers on the 2nd.

lassevk

My theory is that the release systems on the various platforms makes it hard to do a world-wide synchronized release of a game, across all those platforms, and all those timezones. I base this on the fact that so many games opens up at times like "midnight july 2nd", and then half the playerbase seems to "move" to New Zealand in order to play it earlier than others. I think this happened here as well, in that over the course of june 30th, players all over the world got the chance to download the "released" game at various times, based on their timezone, but then the game only progresses to the screen showing when the server opens up on july 2nd, which is where the actual world-wide synchronization happens. It's just a guess though.

Want_all_the_smoke

It seems like there are a lot of new people who just became interested in this game and didn’t do any research. Hell, I just became interested about a week ago but me being who I am, I’ve been in full research mode, watching videos, and reviews from the beta, etc. I know no game is going to release early unless it’s early access that you pay for. How people who knew July 2 is the release could think it just happened to be released early is beyond me.

Bogzy

They messed something up, afaik you shouldnt even be able to review a game just from preloading.

Angelic_Mayhem

Its not just steam. I have been getting TFD ads all day on different sites saying "Play Now!"

Lacis_Gaming

I was also confused as to why the release date changed for a predownload. This is my first on release title from Steam so Im unsure if this is normal

JAMESTIK

not gonna lie i was super excited then disappointed. stupid to leave a bad review over it tho

Dangerous-Ad-95

No, "we all don't know". I played about 30 hours in beta last year, enough to see its a game I might like. Went to dl just now then saw its not release also that they are going with an untested anticheat (on a pve game? lol) and canceled the pre-install. I\[m not writing a bad review but this looks like there is a bunch of dumb crap going on, maybe I'll check it out in a couple of months. Also the email from Steam just says release. || || |**An item on your Steam Wishlist has just released!**| || || |The First Descendant|

Eternalegion

I hate stupid people.

GT_Hades

Not everyone is updated to the game in reddit/discord /yt steam should've just listed the game as pre download

TurbulentSavings4787

The problem is the email from steam says the game was released

cybrsloth92

Same idiots did same with xdefiant these people seem to lack a brain

h311ion

Says the same on Xbox, but Xbox is all 5 stars anyways

MonsignorQuixotee

Honestly I forgot it was the 2nd it was releasing. I saw the notif at like 3am this morning from steam, set it to DL and went to bed. Woke up all excited thinking today was the release day already. Was just as disappointed. Not enough to leave a review about it, but I can see how people got mad that steam didn't word it better. Edit to add: Also its irritating as fuck they didn't add a close button to that splash page if you DO load it up. You have to force close it to get out of the program.

Koagz

Just like how some mobile games allow a pre-download and morons review bomb the game not being able to play it. It's not that hard to read.

CrashBashL

Imagine not giving people the option to pre-download the game, and then no one has it at release. And imagine giving the people the option to pre-download it two days earlier to have it on launch but then all of them complaining that they can't play it two days earlier.

ANDS_

There are more positive reviews than negative on a game that hasn't been released yet. . . .also why blame an excited fan base for a poorly communicated pre-release download? Everything in the communication yesterday except for a single image on the store page said the game "was out and available."

AceJonesVI

so thats why the game freezes suddenly?! lol

The_Oz1969

On the PS store when I pre-loaded it is said "Play Now" prominently but in the smaller text said July 2nd. So this looks like Nexon made a simple mistake, they should not be getting shit on for it.

VOIDofSin

It’s stupid marketing, on the PS store it says “Released 6/30/2024” they shouldn’t of offered a pre download if they couldn’t communicate it better

CaramonZero

I got it downloaded on Xbox as soon as I saw it on the "New Games" list. I've been looking forward to this since I got a Nexon email promoting it before the first beta, so I'm definitely glad they let us pre-download it to give us a chance to play Day 1, though, I'm likely gonna have to wait til the weekend to get in, because, while I'm likely to be up at 1 or 2am, thousands of us are waiting to see if we can make it through the server floodgates as the tide of players rushes in, and I'm not thinking my chances are high. 😅 But, yeah, to be on-topic, I do think review-bombing a game (especially for letting you download it early so you can play it at launch) is quite a childish thing to do outside a means of protesting to get the maker's attention (TF2, anyone?), especially since it can prevent those who only look at ratings, and not comments, from giving the game a chance, and this one definitely deserves one, because I loved the betas I was a part of.

Historical_Walrus713

My brother, Steam literally changed the release date to yesterday. I checked the page today and the only reason I'm on this sub is to confirm I'm not going insane. If Steam says it released 6/30 and the steam page says "Play now" then why the fuck should "We all know that its releasing July 2nd." Bootlicking Nexon by trying to blame others for their confusion in this has got to be one of the lowest points in life you can be.

Lumpy_Giraffe_8929

Shaking my head

ocelotr32

There’s people bashing the game already? it’s not even live yet lol

TartineMyAxe

Steam fault, not the game, people leaving bad reviews for this are stupid monkeys

Linc1

I received an email from PlayStation confirming the game's release, and the PSN Store lists the release date as June 30th. This makes me think the game's publisher is responsible for the confusion. I've pre-loaded many games on PlayStation before, and the release dates have never changed.

BloodMoonScythe

Nexons fault, for not knowing how to turn on the preload setting

xSKxTOXIC

It indeed doesnt say "pre-download" like it should. People not aware of the real release can be easily confused by looking on the steam page of the game. So yeah i understand the situation/confusion more.

One_Lung_G

Probably because instead of marking it as a preload like most other games, it’s marked as released…… your edit said “steam” issue buts it’s not, the developers actively marked the game as released when it’s not. It’s not steams job to go through and do shit the developers should have been doing. They aren’t fake reviews.

Shmigo420

On psn store it literally says it release today so just get off ur knees about it they aren’t going to pay you

itherzwhenipee

Here is the thing, Steam effed up. Pre-Dowanload was available for almost the whole day. Then all of a sudden Steam popped up a note. The First Descendant is now available and even has the play button active in the Library.

KnightofaRose

Nope. Steam doesn’t decide when a game releases. Publishers do. Nexon fucked this up by failing to register their game for an actual pre-load period instead of an actual release. I won’t be surprised if Valve de-lists the game because this technically violates their ToS for publishing. A product must actually be a product for Valve to host it on Steam, and right now it’s a “released” game that’s nothing more than a marketing popup without so much as a ‘close’ button. Nexon did a Nexon again. What a shock.

TTVControlWarrior

Says game released on steam 6/30/2024 bad reviews are justified
