The same is true for India’s 1.2 billion people. French is widely used though not like English. Japanese is handy for gaming. There are many languages with lots of utility. Russian and Ukrainian are not very useful due to low population and utility.
Americans are widely known to only have knowledge in one language so two and even three are very impressive to us.
Well, as I pointed out, it has its uses. Like in eastern Europe. If you want to get around here, as a Ukrainian, you'll use russian. If you want to get around as a foreigner, you'll be looking around for younger adults, who can speak English, where as russian is very widely available. Of course that's changing now. Though for a ukrainian, they always speak two languages bare minimum. Sure, it's not as useful as English, but we learn that either way. English is actually easier than our languages, that's why eastern Europeans are relatively good at English. We have very strict English teachers, who punish us every time we fuck up, because work opportunities suck here. Like seriously.
As for the second part, it makes sense. It's just that in eastern and central europe we have to speak at bare minimum two languages, in which case English is mandatory, and three is pretty good, fourth is ideal, because of jobs.

Russian is not useless. Nearly all of eastern Europe speaks it. Why is Ukrainian useless? Everyone should know their native language. Three languages is impressive to you? Wait until you find out that by the time you're 14 in eastern Europe, you speak 3 languages. You study English since second grade in my country, and Russian or German from 6th.
Russian and Ukrainian are useless from a utility perspective. English is ubiquitous for tech and as a universal language. Chinese is handy to talk to 1.6 billion people. The same is true for India’s 1.2 billion people. French is widely used though not like English. Japanese is handy for gaming. There are many languages with lots of utility. Russian and Ukrainian are not very useful due to low population and utility. Americans are widely known to only have knowledge in one language so two and even three are very impressive to us.
Well, as I pointed out, it has its uses. Like in eastern Europe. If you want to get around here, as a Ukrainian, you'll use russian. If you want to get around as a foreigner, you'll be looking around for younger adults, who can speak English, where as russian is very widely available. Of course that's changing now. Though for a ukrainian, they always speak two languages bare minimum. Sure, it's not as useful as English, but we learn that either way. English is actually easier than our languages, that's why eastern Europeans are relatively good at English. We have very strict English teachers, who punish us every time we fuck up, because work opportunities suck here. Like seriously. As for the second part, it makes sense. It's just that in eastern and central europe we have to speak at bare minimum two languages, in which case English is mandatory, and three is pretty good, fourth is ideal, because of jobs.
