This. Even though it's a silly and uneducated reason, like cats shed, it's so important that we let people know that if they can't meet the needs of their animal that there are people who can look after the animals.
A lot of people shame people for giving up an animal but that just leads to abandoning animals in unsafe spaces :(.
Yah I totally get that. I was a little upset that she was returned because she came back to me with big scabs on her neck and missing a lot of hair around her neck. So I’m not sure what happened to her! But I’m happy she is safe with me now 🥰
Sounds like she may have been allergic to something in the house she was in. One of my cats has a few allergies that'll leave her scratching herself raw
Seconding allergies. My tux Barley is allergic to certain ingredients in cheaper cat food. It makes his ears itch to the point he'll scratch all the fur off. We found a brand of food that didn't trigger his allergies and have stuck with it for 7 years. It's expensive but he's worth it!
He also sheds like crazy despite having a lush short coat. There's cat hair everywhere. Rather than give him up (which I will never do), I got a Roomba. You just deal with it if you're genuinely committed to adopting a cat.
Possibly it was the food, maybe the cat is allergic to one of the ingredients. I thought I was doing my tuxedo a favor recently by feeding him expensive organic food but the fur on his neck and butt started falling out. Now he gets his cheaper food again and the coat looks perfectly healthy again.

Oh maybe she has a dietary sensitivity, I wonder what she was being fed. When she gets adopted out again make sure they know what you're feeding her since it sounds like it works for her. Or just keep her, maybe it's destiny lol

I so appreciate your perspective. I started down the path of thinking about how horrible the adoptive parents were but you're right. Better for sweet Tequila to be in a place where she's understood and loved.

There can definitely be cases where people are awful but there are a lot of cases where the person may not longer have the capacity to care financially, health wise.
I think because people with animals see all the love and joy the bring they can get a bit rose tinted when someone says they need to put an animal up for adoption.
I've seen what happens when people don't feel like they can look after an animal but feel too shamed to go to an adoption service. It is almost always an awful outcome for the animals.
We need to let people know, yes getting an animal is a big decision and you need to be prepared for lifelong care, but also if something happens to you or them we have lovely people like OP, who can help either temporarily or longer term.

I just resent them a little because they returned her after 2 weeks for the excuse that she was shedding. But she is better back with me and the rescue, that dumped somewhere because she was unwanted. I see your point for sure!

I’ve adopted cats that turned out to have serious medical conditions and it never occurred to me to take them back.
We did foster a cat who had FCV that we had to have a another foster family take because we had two other cats (we had kept him in isolation and because it was mid 2020 we were disinfecting everything anyway). Felt bad enough about that.
Returning a cat who sheds? I mean, I’m glad they did because they are terrible and shouldn’t have a cat, but really…
She looks identical to our Princess Leia who also sheds--spectacularly a lot. My husband happily used that as an excuse to buy a fancy vacuum cleaner.

My tuxedo is also loud! She even figured out she is loudest if she yells in the bathtub. So i just live with a tiny cat that goes into the tub to scream at the universe occasionally.

I think maybe Tequila has decided where she wants to be! I fostered my boy and he came back twice - I signed his adoption papers on new years day and he's been my best buddy ever since ❤️

She sheds … omg what dense morons that don’t understand fur animals - that most do shed (especially spring & autumn) They would have had fits with my two Norwegian Forest cats (sadly passed) who are semi-longhair so shed a hell of a lot more than the average shorthair cat!
I used to have a t-shirt with the logo on it: Cat Hair, Don’t care!
I have 2 Maine Coon cats and they could win gold medals for volume shedding if only the Olympics (both Winter and Summer games) would only add an event for Cat Hair Shedding. The events would coincide nicely with cats’ hair shedding cycles.😺
My two cats were adopted as young kittens by someone else, returned to the shelter because their adopter's work situation changed and he couldn't look after them anymore. Apparently they were smelly and came back covered in fleas. They were 6 months old. We adopted them from a foster when they were 8 months old, best decision of my life! Two little voids. Hopefully Tequila finds her forever home soon
