The Orlando version never had 3D glasses. I don’t get motion sickness but I would guess that 3D glasses would make it worse.

jefferson497

Plus I feel like the glasses would fall off all the time while riding

Brian18639

Definitely

I randomly was in Hollywood when they first soft launched the ride there. It was 3-D and during our ride we paused for a few minutes. Found out when we got off that someone threw up in the exit stairwell. Apparently that was a regular occurrence in the days and weeks that followed and Universal nixed the 3-D part of the ride.

Ok-Confusion5705

That just happened here in Orlando (someone threw up in exit stairwell). Luckily I was already out but definitely held back my nausea with deep breathing and eyes closed during the majority of the ride!

So for us, it was around valentine's day 2016. I was visiting LA and walked through the Harry Potter entryway area. There was a whole crowd gathered and one of the security folks said "it's possible they may do a soft opening for the first time ever of this land today..." They eventually did. We got on the ride and sat in a relatively uncomfortable position facing downward for at least 10 minutes when it halted. We got off and saw the vomit on the stairs and one of the ride operators said someone had a 'rough experience.' I said "yeah that makes sense then, we were stuck almost facing the ground for a few minutes, it was really weird. He then offered us to go on the ride again, skipping the line. He opened a door to the side and it quite literally went to the boarding area ... and so we rode it a second time! (And by the time we got off, the vomit had already been cleaned up). It was actually a really cool experience for me, my wife, and the other couple we were there with.

Oddly enough, I don’t get motion sickness with 3D. Forbidden Journey is a wretchfest for me *because* there is no 3D. I still ride it, I just have to close my eyes during the screen portions.

jovianborg

Ah thank you! I’m glad we didn’t bet on anything because I was way off LOL

Pooh_

Hollywood did have 3D at the start but removed it at some point

austinrathe

This is the answer. When they did the 4k upgrade to both, the 3D was removed.

hufflepuffmom215

I rode it the very first year and had awful motion sickness, and I feel like they added more fans after a year or two, which actually did help quite a bit. I may also be an unreliable narrator bc in the last few years I started taking Bonine when going to Universal (I don't have any trouble with regular coasters, but spinning rides and simulators get me), so my recent FJ rides have been awesome.

ryanchapelle

I’m pretty certain the fans are built into the ride vehicle!

Lucar_Bane

They also updated the projection quality if I remember correctly

CarelessSquirrel2626

Gringotts has glasses …. Maybe that’s why you got them confused

hcwalker17

The versions of Forbidden Journey in Japan and Hollywood have had 3-D effects in the past, but never Orlando.

tylersixxfive

Orlando didn’t! Hollywood did but they where removed because it was making people sick and it’s a cost cutting thing they have done to pretty much every ride that had 3d glasses minus Spider-Man at this point I think

LisaSaurusRex83

You’re thinking of Gringott’s!

Yawheyy

It never had 3D glasses. I used to ride it with sunglasses to make it darker and helped me not notice the side or behind the scene areas.

joemcmanus96

This guy immerses

jovianborg

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

uaresurrounding

No glasses, its just a ride that gets people sick. Lots of screens, movement, and stimulation with things like the dragon blowing smoke in your face. Love that ride so much lol

dragonsrevenge

No glasses

crwnbrn

Orlando forbidden journey never had glasses never been to the Hollywood one but been going to universal studios since mid 90s and IOA since it opened yearly so for sure no.

Emotional_Meeting_53

Never had 3D glasses, but the beginning of the ride used to be different along with having more dementors.

crowd79

Kong doesn’t have 3D glasses anymore.

Total-Appointment857

I get sick every time I ride it, but still jump in that single rider line over and over

doctrsnoop

I swore they had 3d glasses. then stopped it . didn't help me

DeflatedDirigible

3D screen projections are super super blurry if you aren’t wearing special glasses. It would be unwatchable to just get rid of the glasses and force guests to watch those screens. People are just whiney that FJ screens aren’t as crisp as their tv at home as well as having FNS (floppy neck syndrome)…caused by being a couch potato and not having the strength to hold their neck up to watch the screens while on a ride.
