Let me guess. This came into the ER at 2:30AM urgentlyā¦ triagingā¦ āand how long has this been there for? Did it get significantly worse recently?ā āIts been there for uh, probably 6 weeks maybe???ā Oh but NOW its an emergency. Got it
Had a patient like this, hyporexic for *weeks*, then anorexic for *a week*. But *still eating treats, **so thatās okay***. Also patient that was status-epilepticus for 4 hours, but now that dog is there (still seizing), *spare no expense*.
Its all too relatable. When they say this i literally say āokay but why NOW? Did it get worse, something new, what is it?ā Likeā¦ you damn fool. And lol āstill eating treatsā my favorite is hypoglycemic puppies and the owners are like ah she hasnāt been eating for 3 dsys; so ive just been syringe feeding her! But now shes like dying so i dont get it. Bitch, you aspirated your puppy. Clients are wild. This is how we copeā¦ dark humor and shit talking
Some ass-hat on r/DogAdvice is posting pics of a puppy he 'found on the ground'. Just from the freaking pics you can see that this puppy needs care urgently. He has been told by multiple people that he needs to take it in.
He claims to be in the human med field and he took the puppy's temp (and stated that dog was out for it and didn't notice) and everything in OK with pup because the temp was 98.
I told him to take the dog in and that it was abusive to be posting for imaginary internet points and arguing with randoms...OMG I am so freaking angry.
Andddddd reasons like that are why i left that sub! Dumb people askint (sometimes) dumber people for advice. Also so much vet field bashing. Now iām only in vet med groups bc we just ~get it~. RIP to that puppy- jerkoff doesnāt know what heās doing.
Ugh gross this poor dog. We had one that looked just like this and they finally got it removed because the dog ate half of it off and it wouldn't stop bleeding. We were like "The poor dog was sick of waiting and decided to take matters into her own hands!" The smell was horrendous.
That reminds me of a while back someone posted a story of a dog who ended up eating her liver and some others because her owners didnāt keep a cone on her after some form of abdomen surgery. Euthanized of course but oof. I never want to see that again.
Ugh I had something like that happen at my clinic! It was a 4lb yorkie poodle type thing and had a pyo. The owner felt so guilty that she ācausedā the pyo by not spaying her kept going on and on about how she was so scared to put her through surgery but if she had known this was a possibility she wouldāve done it a long time ago. She approved surgery no questions asked said do whatever needs to be done. It was kind of a significant surgery because it was our new grad vetās first pyo surgery and then the dog started seizing in recovery but we got her stabilized and sent her home. Next morning owner calls hysterical saying she had to be euthanized at the emergency clinic because she ācouldnāt sleep with the cone onā so she took the cone off and put the dog in bed with her and when she woke up the dog had licked its incision open and eaten its intestines.
Jfc... I was not expecting *that* ending. Dear lord, that poor owner must have been traumatized. To wake up and find that your dog disemboweled itself, I can't even imagine.
I read it around the time my dogs tail was amputated. I have a huge boy and I have 3 different come alternatives since heās deaf and itās easier for him via sight. Iād take naps with him with his cone off, he was doped on gabba and the other liquid pain meds. I was awake the whole time, snuggled him under the blankets. He got comfy shut eye, I got the comfort of knowing he got sleep with out sounds of someone standing on an elephantās trunk. When it was time for me to sleep, I took my meds and let him wake up enough to get the tube on his neck and we were out.
It baffles me, when I see how people take the cones off with out supervision; leaving the house for an hour/work, and worst of all when you sleep. It leaves the animal in addition disarray and that in itself is inhumane.
Simple procedure. You wrap a towel around it. Put it into one of the kennels in the back. Then usher the owner out the front door with instructions to never return. Removed.

I find it so funny when posts in this sub are labeled NSFW when this is entirely safe for our work lol
Lol I know. I didnāt even label it nsfw I think the mods did.
Well... it wasn't there yesterday.
It was only the size of a dime yesterday I swear.
Yeah, so um, there's that, but wtf is up on his belly above his prepuce?
One catastrophe at a time, please.
Boi what the helll. The end of that looks like the mouth of a lamprey eel

I didn't think it would be possible, considering the beginning of the story, but damn, that escalated quickly.

I'm.. absolutely horrified. Why are owners like this?
Can you do his nails tho
š
Ooo I remember seeing one of these on the front leg of a dog in my clinic. If Iām not wrong we ended up euthanizing and reporting for neglect
What is it?
It looks like an ulcerated mast cell tumor
Wtf is wrong with people. This makes me so mad - that poor dog!
Oh but it just popped up a few days ago
But seriously, what is it???
Kinda looks like a tumor that has ylcerated because it grew so fast and tight that some of the cells were no longer receiving blood flow.
I can smell it
hey c'mon now, OBVIOUSLY it just started this morning /s
JFC that's straight out of a video game. WTF???
I'm no vet tech could someone please explain?
I would've loved to watch the removal of that haha.
