“I can’t imagine the vet would do much other than try to get a pressure dressing on it” UMM? How about pain meds? Antibiotics? Debridement and possible amputation of whatever’s left? Suturing the wound closed so there’s not bone, tissue, and nerve hanging out?
We had a family bring in their dog that was tossed by a deer the night before and had a loop of intestines sticking out of the wound. They had sprayed wound care with lidocaine on it repeatedly overnight. I was flabbergasted. Ironically though, spraying it kept it moist and that probably saved the tissue since there was no stricture from the wound itself to stop blood flow. I am never surprised at what pet owners do anymore. There are some whackadoos and all I can do is be happy I’m not treating them or their human kids because god knows how that would go!
Like how the parent goes straight to blaming the toddler with no accountability that they were clearly not monitoring the kid.
There’s clearly no way this could have been avoided
As much as I'm loathe to defend anything about this person, this doesn't scream "not monitoring" situation to me, assuming their story is all true. Slamming a door takes a split second. Anyone could struggle to react fast enough, even if they were right there with the kid.
My question is how tf did a toddler slam a door hard enough to amputate a tail.
I'm not sure what you would have wanted them to do differently in regards to personal accountability. Do you want them to add "however I am ultimately legally and morally responsible for all actions my toddler commits" every single time they describe something their toddler did?
I get that this person is either a shithead or extremely ignorant, but I don't see how this is "blaming" their kid.
Then I guess what is the actual purpose of including that it was the toddler that slammed the tail in the door?
I guess it’s meant to invoke some kind of sympathy since it’s a mom’s group??
When in reality she’s just looking for validation that she doesn’t want to bring the dog to the vet for something that clearly needs to be seen.
And yes, “I wasn’t paying attention and …” would be a good preface.
Yeah 😭 apparently it "fell off" a few days after the puppy was born. The owner "suspected it may have been chewed off by a littermate (???) & just never had the dog seen by a vet until they came to the ER weeks later because "he's crying a lot" 😐
This is so sad, I can't imagine people's thought process sometimes. Like, if your kid accidentally cut off a finger, would you cover it in a plastic bag and post to Facebook: "will this heal on its own?"
Also love the fact that she didn't even try to like bandage it in a sort of way that would help stop the bleeding, that plastic bag wrap job is solely for the purpose of keeping her fucking floors clean. Some people disgust me.
They couldn't even be bothered to wrap it with a proper bandage???
Also, that's a fancy ass kitchen. They can afford granite countertops and wood flooring but can't take their dog to the vet?
Can you imagine someone saying this about a child? My child’s sibling slammed their hand in the door. Part of it came off and it’s been bleeding profusely, so I put a Walmart bag around it so it wouldn’t make a mess. Probably don’t need to take her to the hospital right? I mean what are they gonna do to help?
"I can't imagine the vet would do much other than..."
😡🤦🤦🤦
Yes, 6 years vet school and vets only do bandaged. Medication? What's this??? /s
Why can those ppl own animals? (And kids?)

OOP reported to animal control. Hopefully they'll do something for the poor pup
thank god , i was about to ask if anyone reported them

they cant imagine!
Even if they "only" put a pressure dressing on it, it would be done correctly, by people who know what they are doing, and not using poo bags for it!
And the dog is snarling at the o. It's probably friggin painful af and needs sedation and a good local anesthetic.
Wonder how a vet would even do that stuff without her snarling 🙄 Maybe this magic thing called sedation.
Hmmm.. Wonder what the snarling could possibly mean?? I hate people.

As a person who switched from pregnany, birth and postpartum for people to vet stuff….I can’t even tell you how much alike it is.
I was so hoping someone would put this here. Even if all the vet does is wrap it in bandages, AT LEAST IT WOULD BE PROPERLY CLEANED AND DRESSED.
I thought that was a hair bonnet at first glance on the tail. That poor dog...I hope they take it in!!!
What the actual fuck?? Poor dog
i literally face palmed when she said "it's super painful to the touch..." like no way? you think that would be painful??

Assuming this story is true, accountability does not seem to be something this person is familiar with.

What, you guys don't wrap poop bags around the bottom of your spine when it sticks out?
The TODDLER slammed the door hard enough for this to happen? Mmmhmm.
Hope the toddler does a parents' finger next. I'm sure they won't see a doctor about that, though. It'll heal on its own.
Yeah, this is so fucked. This is animal neglect and this person should get thrown in jail.
No joke we had a puppy come in the other day who's leg "fell off a few weeks ago" and was brought to the ER for an entirely different reason 🫠
What?!?!
Leg. Fell. Off... ?????

"I can't imagine what a vet would do" because you're not a vet, you absolute fucking sinkhole of stupid!

What a terrible parent and owner
