Everything here looks great, for the banner you might want to chop off the giant chaos star topper but other than that it’s perfect for Night Lords

General-MacDavis

Put a legion vexila or something to replace it, I bet that would look sexy

1ns4n3R4g3

Pretty much, everything besides the 8 pointed star is fine for NL. Perfect addition for a custom command squad with the new one that will come out soon

Gamiel2

Why is the Chaos star not right? We know that Chaos sworn have appeared among all Legions by now in the Heresy and we know of many NL that become Cult-forces or Daemon-Princes by 40k

1ns4n3R4g3

While that is the case, most legions did not use the chaos iconography during the heresy. Some legions, like Word Bearers and Sons of Horus, might have been using some form of these other definitely did not. And Curze definitely disliked Chaos and during the Heresy any NL that would have carried that banner would have been ostracised

Gamiel2

But Curze abounded them years before the HH's current "now", and even before that many of the NL paid only lipservice to their gene-father.

Biggeordiegeek

There were symbols of Chaos at Isstvan III

Soldier5ide

Not sure you’d even have to chop the whole star off - think trimming it down some, reducing the number of spikes etc. so it’s not obviously a chaos eight-pointed star may be enough. Wonder whether they’ve kept HH in mind with this and other similar releases- surely?

GoblinFive

The star definitely could be cut to look like some kind of a nostraman rune.

MassiveMaroonMango

The Bannerman was just REALLY excited about the whole chaos deal, he had to get a chaos star made instantly.

Gidia

The best part about night lords is that chaosy spiky bits just become spooky spiky bits.

nikosek58

Nah. 8 pointed star is amazing

PossibleMarsupial682

Why? Dudes has the 8 point star by book 3

Patchy_Face_Man

Astartes corpse is so hot right now. Yeah there’s almost nothing on here that isn’t just straight up good to go. Obvious chaos emblem, the skeletal chain blade maybe are out, but it seems impossible but it looks like they only put stupid random chaos teeth on one pauldron. The restraint! I think even the helmets are fine, I challenge someone to assign an actual Mark to those.

genteel_wherewithal

tbh even the skeleton chainblade isn’t so much chaotic as exactly the sort of garish Nostramoan ganger trophy-weapon a NL officer would carry around.

Patchy_Face_Man

Yeah it’s fine. It’s Night lords. They are 80s cartoon villains in every era.

General-MacDavis

Heck the stupid random chaos teeth would look really cool on a character or sgt, drench it with enough blood and you have a later night lord who’s abandoned any nobility or form the originals had

Live-D8

Hey those teeth are the only things keeping the legiones dentiste cohort in business

Patchy_Face_Man

My god, I’ve never wanted to make a Chaos dentist so bad. Translate tells me they’d be called the Primus Oris Munditia. Plague marine just carries a soda can barrel on the backpack.

Alpharius-0megon

I belive the helmets might be mk V

Patchy_Face_Man

SURE!

RitschiRathil

Was to be expected that this is the command squad upgrade for NL. And it also comes with most legion unique weapons. If I would still play night lords, I would get 3 or 4 of these upgrades 😁👍

the_real_lemartes

Its actually the killteamset

Suspicious_Beach1039

Will this be available standalone? It’s an incredible kit, be a shame to have to buy lots of the full Kill Teams

WorldEaterProft

The night lords kill team? Yeah it will be standalone But the actual Upgrade sprues won't be Which sucks, imagine if gw did these for 30k

Suspicious_Beach1039

Yup I meant the upgrade sprue. Shame

Adept_Avocado_4903

Realistically most if not all of the base CSM kit (which the NL upgrade sprue is supposed to go with) is going to be appropriate for HH. It's definitely a different *style* than most of the HH range, but very few details are outright anachronisms.

Slow_Ad_8541

Yup, I'm using berzerker and legionary bodies for my raptors and terror squads (and probably a power-armoured command squad too) Just trimming a lot of the pointiness, more standard heresy powerpacks and shoulder pads on the more chaosy bodies (and chaos pads and powerpacks on the more standard bodies)

Gamiel2

And we have seen official pictures in WD and similar of 30k era Marines created from the CSM figures. So that is GW approved.

Adept_Avocado_4903

Depending on the Legion certain Chaos-specific iconography might be inappropriate during the Heresy. But in my eyes that's for the rivet-counters to argue over. If I had a traitor force I wouldn't bother scraping off eight-pointed stars just to be era-appropriate. Even the banner on the upgrade sprue could look great on a Night Lords force.

Jazano107

It’s possible that they might do it one day. I remember rumours about similar sprues for all the legions for 40k So maybe eventually they sell it by itself

olabolob

Eventually

The_Lord_Cobra

I feel like a lot of this could be re-used especially for Terror squads and you could use them to make raptors as well and HQ options

AlexiDrake

Night Lords look pretty much the same in the Horus Heresy and in the 40,000 millennium. So using them should be ok.

HannahDawg

The Night Lords are one of the few legions where their heresy and 40k models are damn near identical, save for the chaos stars, which feels a bit odd since the NL never really liked the chaos gods

Schneidend

No, Talos never really liked the gods. The rest of the Legion ranged from ambivalent to enthusiastic.

IdhrenArt

By 40k time the norm is supposed to be that Chaos Space Marines actively follow the Gods.

SUBSCRIBE_LAZARBEAM

Yeah pretty much everything, especially the claw looks epic night lordsy. I would refrain from the chaos banner as they were not the biggest fans of it even thought they were not immune to it.

ET_Gamer_

Woah, the blade gauntlets are their own separate piece. 😮 Time to make Night Lord sisters.

ReinventedExit

The chain glaive is my favorite bit on that sprue.

Jiffah_

Most of it I'd say. Some ppl don't think pointy trims are right for NL but not me.

madMARTYNmarsh

Looks like I'll be starting a new army then.

Craigsovereasy

I like the head being separate from the torso on the corpse. Could be used as a separate bit or decoration. Might make one of my guys holding it with a spine attached like a trophy

I_suck_at_Blender

Nice. I really wish GW sold those separetly, that banner looks like something from Dawn of War. https://preview.redd.it/ttjqo9msoisc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=95413d088ef0131ea6f4842c6fc8a722d7903f63 Unrelated fact, but I think bare heads from 40k WE Berzerkers fit 30K aestetics.

Biggeordiegeek

Agreed To be fair the Chaos Space Marine kit is great for later stage Heresy armies for forces like the Night Lords

JoscoTheRed

Leaving the banner open to NOT put the body on it is a fantastic design choice. Really glad that’s not sculpted on.

SteelStorm33

not that much work here to invest, night lords arent corrupted chaos marines, they are pretty close to heresy. very good sprues.

InflamedAbyss13

Everything if you're casual enough 🤣

interimeclipse

All of it except anything with Chaos stars imo

ArdkazaEadhacka

If your doing seige of terra it's fine

MasterpiecePretend40

All of it, they were demented then they are demented now and they aren’t very corrupted either, just remove blatant chaos markings and you should be good

bartprim

I think everything but the heads and weapons could be. NL were pretty mature with armour ornamentation, but maybe not yet the heads or weapons. Throw in some glaives and lightning claws.

Mrhappyface798

Most of it has the classic CSM trim(TM) so I'd say not much unless you want to do some knife work to remove it all Maybe the skin cloak and some of the other smaller bits?

Scarytoaster1809

Even then, you could say its artificer armour for sergeants

Gamiel2

We have seen in White Dwarf and similar official publications pictures of 30k squads created by using the CSM figures as base, so GW at least see no problem with that look.

hatdecoy

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, but I agree about the trim. That said, I'm currently using a lot of CSM and Berzerker parts for my 30k Night Lords, but I'm also putting in the aforementioned knife work to remove the arrows and baroque curvy bits from the trim.

Mrhappyface798

Idk man, it does kind of feel like I'm seeing something completely different to everyone else? Like it's a beautiful kit and great for 40k NL but come on, not even Curze has as much trim as 40k CSMs have

capn_morgn_freeman

True, but if you go back to the SoT books, everything from Luc & Skraivok's perspective says they've started turning into the typical looking CSM, so it really isn't that much of a stretch https://preview.redd.it/hsg896t7qhsc1.jpeg?width=728&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c07905e1e79efed42ed1af445fd6b6af9f6aa673

hatdecoy

Yeah, they're pretty ornate right off the sprue, but I'm trimming almost everything except for the basic banding around the top and bottom of the legs, and of course any NL-type trophies and such. Although I am using them mainly for my Terror Squad rather than rank and file, who can be expected to be a little flashier. This smiley boy is the WIP Headsman from my Terror Squad, using a mix of regular and trimmed down chaos parts (and a Necromunda head) - aside from the Anvilus pattern backpack that all my TS guys get, I don't think he's too ornate for an elite choice.
