Obility

Honestly, sounds more like a special edition meta quest that's green and has an xbox logo

Hauz20

Yeah, that's my thought too. Definitely not getting my hopes up for any added functionality and/or VR on Xbox.

Obility

I watched zucks video and it's kind of implied to be a headset optimized for playing gamepass games on the go. As opposed to having VR in gamepass or what not since this edition would come with an xbox controller.

InFernoSlays

I think it is just the beginning of what maybe can happen next gent.

Savy_Spaceman

Quest PC app and Steam VR app on Xbox , please Phil 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Brother_Clovis

I think it's going to support cloud games, and probably on a projected television or something. Not getting my hopes up either.

Wordonascreen2

I would love for them to partner on gamepass and bring the service to oculus. Would give me so many reasons to play with my friends and convince others to buy one

StrangerNo484

The service is already on Oculus, and will continue to be expanded.  Quest headsets are also android based, meaning that basically any android app can be installed.  I installed the Xbox App to play my Xbox on my headset, I can set it up to be a massive screen or position it close to me which works amazing with first party games, it's a really amazing experience. Playing Rainbow Six Siege in this manner is amazing, completely recommend.

Wordonascreen2

I mean oculus games included with gamepass. Or is that already a thing?

SuspiciousChair7654

I hope we dont need to sign up for a meta account to use it.

MukwiththeBuck

Going to be confusing since you can't connect your Meta quest to your xbox at all.

Obility

They could just brand it as inspired by Xbox I guess. Or the could make it like a PlayStation portal and market it as a a VR game pass machine from the get go.

StrangerNo484

You can very easily, I play my Xbox on my Quest all the time, it's an amazing experience.  In fact, I've set up my Quest to be able to connect and play with ALL of my systems, I can simply connect a Bluetooth controller to my Quest and use it to control all of my systems. I can have the systems loaded up on different screens and switch which I'm controlling with a simple button press. The Meta Quest is built on the foundation of Android, and therefore any Android app can work with it. Not all will have perfect results, but most do which is very impressive. This is how I very easily could get apps to connect my Xbox (PS5, Computer, Hacked Switch, ect) to my Quest. You can play Xbox on a massive theater screen, or can have a screen positioned right in front of you, making it very immersive. Playing First-Person Shooters like this is an outstanding experience, makes it feel significantly more real and a lot more fun, highly recommend VR Rainbow Six Siege.

JonnyRocks

they didnt say it was anything else.

pukem0n

I never understood why they just didn't make the Oculus headsets compatible with xbox. MS doesn't need to make their own device. I'd love to use my Quest 2 on my xbox. The install base would instantly be much bigger than PSVR2.

fallouthirteen

Yeah, especially since it already works with external applications fine on PC (it just works with Steam VR stuff, no anything needed).

MukwiththeBuck

Because Xbox got burnt so hard by Kinect there not willing to take that kind of risk anymore.

despitegirls

It's a lot of effort for something that realistically isn't going to move millions of consoles and sell Game Pass to make it worth it. PSVR did really well for the price, PSVR2 less so (even though it's a notable improvement) and they've had to open it up to PC to recoup expenses. They're better off doing a partnership like this and maybe getting people into Game Pass, which has way higher margin than consoles. Maybe if the rumors of next gen including an Xbox-style PC are true, it'll be possible then.

Wordonascreen2

If they partner on gamepass they’d sell each other no doubt. Many people just don’t buy vr games but wouldn’t mind paying for a service to play a bunch. A lot of Xbox users would probably buy a quest if their current membership now has more perks they can take advantage of

VirtualWord2524

Microsoft already deprecated Windows Mixed Really and with that goes the Windows VR UI I guess. Guessing they're not interested in making an Xbox VR UI. Either this is Xbox branded Quest for PC Xbox Store, or at best for Xbox consoles, you'll have to use the gamepad UI to launch the game, pair the controllers, setup wired display connection or wireless, then put on the headset Not expecting much for the console side. The games are on the Meta store and Steam unless the Meta store is going to be the first third party store on Xbox

despitegirls

It's not like I don't want to the Quest to work with Xbox, I just don't see it happening, especially with this announcement, due to the reasons in my previous post. Elsewhere this is referred to as a limited edition which sounds like it may be Xbox branded and probably comes with a trial of Game Pass Ultimate since you can play games via the cloud on the Quest. Maybe there's a connection to the PC store as you said since you can already cast your PC to the Quest.

mtarascio

Probably just cosmetic.

Depress0Express

Xcloud is already on meta quest 3. Im guessing it’s going to be a tie in bundle but would love it if they expanded Gamepass proper into the VR space.

Surprised_Lamington

How does it work currently? Just as a display?

reddragon105

Yeah, just like XCloud on any other device, except on a large virtual screen floating in front of your eyes in pass through, or in a virtual environment. Doesn't make the games 3D or anything.

AceChronometer

I use gamepass on my Q3 all the time and love it. I honestly don’t think that Microsoft will ever get into the AR/MR space for gaming. It would be cool if the series x could plug directly into the quest 3 for VR games or a better 2D experience directly from the console.

VirtualWord2524

I was already interested in the Quest 3 so I would consider it if it was for some reason cheaper. I feel branded stuff usually has a premium on it. Wouldn't care about it in tandem with an Xbox regardless

peacemaker2121

When Phil Spencer said high quality vr experience, and being wire free. I think this checks all the boxes.

JP76

I think the biggest news here is Meta Horizon OS going multi-platform. Basically their operating system has a chance to become for VR what Windows is for PCs and Android is for mobile phones. Asus and Lenovo are apparently first OEMs that start making hardware running their OS. This was Microsoft's strategy for VR before they scrapped their WMR platform. In retrospect, I don't think tethered VR is the way to go - it needs to be portable with options for tethering (wired and wireless). And that's what Meta is doing.

Soopy

I was looking to upgrade from the Quest 2 to the 3 so this would be on my radar. It also depends on the price point vs features it brings to the table. It's definitely on my radar though.

RacistH8

Im with the other guy. Who knows the promotion they put out. Free gamepass for 3 months for current subs or whatever else at same or lower price might make me look again. Though it would be ugly as rendered.

Disappointing__Salad

I’m not buying anything from Facebook

segagamer

You could get it second hand

SuperMexican414

This isn’t a Facebook product. It’s from Meta, who’s the parent company of Facebook

Disappointing__Salad

I don’t care about their rebrand. It’s the same company.

SuperMexican414

I’m just saying a more appropriate response would’ve been “I’m not buying anything from Meta”

Casey_jones291422

The only reason they split/rebranded was so people wouldn't know things like this are tied to Facebook because the Facebook brand reputation has tanked. I think it's fair to counter their attempts by stil ljsut calling it Facebook all the time.

Miraclefish

Ahh yes Meta the company famous for inventing Facebook and nothing else. Since they bought Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus, I think I'll continue to call the company behind Facebook... Facebook.

Taki_Minase

I personally love that Mark Fvckerberg sees my left hand stroke when in 1920p POV spit roast

HMSon777

I'm hoping one day Microsoft works with Meta to make the Quest compatible with the series x. It makes sense, this was they don't have to invest in the r&d to make a headset, there is already a pretty sizeable community and we already know the headset is top notch.

Jakinator178

Next generation probably, since it sounds like Xbox is building a PC that plays Xbox and PC games, position themselves as the budget option for the wonderful world of PC master race

DuckCleaning

Microsoft already poured millions into WMR. They could have easily ported the system to Xbox and let the devices be compatible. Biggest problem though is they never designed Series X to even support a second screen output over USB C or anything like that, they would have to turn to having a breakout box the way PS4 did.

Stumpy493

The problem isn't really the hardware. If MS saw value in having VR on xbox then they would spend the money to develop the headset. Problem is the market is still niche, just look at ps VR sales. And also MS would be required to develop VR modes/games to justify supporting it and they are struggling enough getting normal games out the door 8n good order and good quality.

DEEZLE13

PS even barely develops VR games

Stumpy493

The market just isn't big enough to justify it compared to flat games.

Njoeyz1

Exactly, so why would Microsoft put money into one, when they could use a third party peripheral??

Stumpy493

Because why do that when they can just not support one at all? If they support VR officially there will be pressure to develop VR ganes/modes which at a stage when MS can't get games out the door at a decent speed and quality would be a foolish diversion of focus for a niche market that won't make them any money as they don't even earn from the peripheral sales.

Njoeyz1

There is a big difference between creating a few games for vr, than creating your own and then making the games for it. There is a difference in outlay. This is what happened to Sony. They've lost money on the headset, not the games.

Stumpy493

So for a tiny market MS should split their development resources and delay games to support VR? If they were managing to get loads of top games out then I would be all for it. But their games are constantly being delayed and missing quality targets. Yet you suggest spending time making VR modes and games is a smart business decision?

Njoeyz1

Quality targets? Let's take Forza. I play on series X, I don't, and have never had any major issues with that game. I have gt7, and the quality is just as good, with the game being much better. Better prices for cars, better weather selections for tracks, better physics etc. was it different from what "was advertised" sure. But even with that, it's a better looking and playing game than any other SIM I have. And that's in the "state" it's in just now. I don't care if the pc version is shit, thw Xbox versions are fine. I love halo infinite as well, which looks just as good as any Sony title. So I fail to see your point about quality. Like I said. If Forza is a better game than GT in its current state, then your point holds no weight.

Stumpy493

I bloody love Forza, have hundreds of hours in it. But you are deluded if you think it doesn't have issues, even now months after launch. Graphical issues (flickering shadows etc.) have only just about resolved themselves, crashes, connection issues, lack of content, anaemic single player campaign, broken penalty system. I could go on a lot. GT7 has it's own issues, but I'm not discussing Sony games, I'm discussing the issues with MS games. Starfield dissapointed, Redfall hugely dissapointed, Halo Infinite dissapointed. Each of those games was also hugely delayed.

segagamer

> If MS saw value in having VR on xbox then they would spend the money to develop the headset. Why? What would be the point when Meta have already done all the legwork? Just add the relevant driver support for the Meta headset and the games will follow

Stumpy493

Why do MS develop a controller if others have already done it?

segagamer

At this point, who knows why? It's not like people don't already have controllers from previous consoles. But in serious terms, R&D for a VR headset + splitting the console marketshare is more costly than the R&D for a controller that doesn't.

cSwish

>And also MS would be required to develop VR modes/games to justify supporting it They already kinda do. You can play some gamepass pc games in VR.

Stumpy493

First party games with VR support are few and far between. Flight Sim... Anything else?

cSwish

Not much. But it's better than nothing.  https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/18xlrgz/all_free_xbox_game_pass_for_pc_vr_games_2024/

Stumpy493

So flight Sim and Minecraft, that's it.

1440pSupportPS5

Wow im butthurt lol. Have i had the option i wouldve got that version at launch. Black and green is cleeeean.

BoBoBearDev

I hope I can connect to my xbox directly. And yes, a big ass large TV is all I need, I don't need immersion at all. In fact, I want to see coke near me.

StrangerNo484

Connecting to the Xbox Directly is incredibly easy and the results are fantastic, simply install the Xbox App.

BoBoBearDev

Thanks, I will do this

xraphyx

How is it compared to xcloud? Still just 1080p? And lots of video compression?

miggleb

Eh, not enough to make me wait, was gonna buy 3 at months end, unless this is more than a colour swap I'll still go with the standard

makiller_

Seems like just a limited color swap though maybe it will come with extra goodies

StrangerNo484

That image is nothing but a concept render, we don't even know at this time the model the limited edition will be for. The limited edition could be for a future headset, such as a theoretical Pro2. All we know right now is that we'll get a Xbox-themed Quest and Controllers, and an included Xbox Controller (that's hopefully limited edition) and Gamepass subscription.

StrangerNo484

We know it'll come with an Xbox Controller and Gamepass. Currently NOTHING else is know, the image is merely a concept render, and the model of the headset is not confirmed so it won't necessarily be a Quest 3 but could be a future model. Either way, I'd personally wait since we'll most certainly be hearing more details regarding many things, including this Xbox Limited edition during or potentially before June.

LocalGMan

If it allows me to play Resident Evil 4 in VR, then yes 100%

Hobo_Renegade

The quest remake of RE4 was an absolute blast to playthrough.

cchhuubbyy

Wait till you play remake in vr, hard to believe both experiences have a place in vr but it is so difficult to say one is the definitive over the other

Hobo_Renegade

I just got so used to flipping the knife when I was putzing around hahaha.

fallouthirteen

And dual wielding was fun. Like pistol in one hand and knife in other, just like Big Boss would do. Or hold an extra magazine in offhand for a really fast combat reload. Or if you want to really give it to the enemies, shotgun and pistol at same time. Another one that was fun was hipfiring the bolt action rifle quickly by just keeping your other hand on the bolt lever to fire it like a semi auto.

Hobo_Renegade

I just always wanted to throw the knife and it would do this sad little downward arc like... aw.... laaaaame hahaha

MeBeEric

Hypothetically speaking, would a Quest 3 (or 4) be capable of running Xbox apps natively as a 2D screen similar to xCloud? I’d take that over a handheld any day tbh.

KavensWorld

Is this the portable device ;)

segagamer

Nah. But could be a sign of console support in future.. Would make far more sense to do that than for Microsoft to develop a whole new VR headset with exclusive games. It would also give gamers and devs far less reason to bother with PSVR.

spund_

I don't want Facebook anywhere near Xbox.

Gullible_Flan_3054

It's likely gonna be more a fancy xreal air than it is a true VR experience

DuckCleaning

It's just a limited edition Quest "inspired by Xbox"

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gullible_Flan_3054

The product render to start, notice they're holding a regular controller instead of something a true VR experience would have? Beyond that is my own personal assumption that Xbox consoles can't provide a good VR experience without stuffing enough chips into the set itself, making it expensive enough that you might as well just get a full fledged quest.

travelingWords

So like, does it just have less games worth playing on it than other editions?

3kpk3

Unnecessary. Already using my Quest 3 with my gaming pc.

LonelyCakeEater

I totally thought when Xbox bought Oculus they were gonna go hard with VR. Boy was i wrong

idontknow1001

Very wrong lol. Xbox didn’t buy Oculus.

LonelyCakeEater

Yeah I’m an idiot
