I feel you, she annoys tf out of me too. But I don’t hate her because the show illustrates how Shauna is an emotionally distant mother and how that has impacted Callie, because she feels she cannot emotionally connect to her mom. I wont mention the exact scene because I read your comment that says you’re on episode 8, so I don’t think this specific scene that really illustrates this has happened yet. But I can understand how having a mom like Shauna would make you feel jaded and angry. I don’t blame Shauna for putting up walls between herself and her family, but I can imagine how this would cause a rift with Callie.

Tank_Girl_Gritty_235

I think Callie can also see through Shauna's suburban mom facade and part of her antagonizing is really just negging her mom to take the mask off.

luckyinu

Yes agreed, she can tell Shauna is deeply unhappy and won’t open up to anybody. But as a daughter who obviously loves her mom (Callie does demonstrate that she loves and wants to protect Shauna in later episodes), she isn’t able to settle for this always-at-arms-length type of relationship and resists it. There’s a lot more I could say but don’t want to risk spoiling things for OP.

awkwardmamasloth

I wonder how much of Callies childhood we'll get to see? I imagine we'll see some of the timeline post rescue after they've "adjusted" and moved on. Collage, marraige, kids etc. All the things that lead them to where they are now. I feel like Shaunas motherhood experience will be heartbreaking.

hauntingvacay96

I mean she is the daughter of Shauna (I >!purposefully!< have zero connections with my daughter >!because I’m scared of losing her!< and am highly traumatized from cannibalizing my friends) Shipman

five-potatoes-high

Also, her mom cheated on her dad and then murdered the person she cheated with and Callie knows. There’s adults walking around today who never got over their parents cheating on one another (they even make movies about it).

TlMEGH0ST

Exactly lol

mxddy

She's a brat but she's a teenage girl with an incredibly emotionally neglectful mother. So it's kinda justified.

HybridHologram

She's a teenager. Part of being a teenager is to be annoying af.

MerylStreepsLilSis

Apparently, let’s not forget she talks too much

liiia4578

Yeah that’s the whole point

interimeclipse

wait til season 2

raviolioh

Worst daughter….? Have you seen her mother? I love Shauna’s character, but please, Callie is TAME for what she deals with with her mother. That generational trauma runs deep and her desperation to know ANYTHING about her mom makes me so sad.

jenniferlorene3

Yeah she is a douche but that's what makes her such an interesting and fun character. She's an asshole teen with baggage.

MerylStreepsLilSis

Perfect combo!!

Fantastic-March-4610

What episode are you on?

MerylStreepsLilSis

I’ve finished season one but I went back to rewatch because I felt like I missed a few parts. Season 1 episode 8

Fantastic-March-4610

You should watch the whole thing before this. In season 2, you’ll understand a lot better.

Accomplished-Scale99

Shauna is deeply detached from her daughter and we as the viewer know why. As a moody teenager Callie has no idea! She has been fed the whole “we prayed and starved until we were found” narrative. She just thinks she has a bad mom for no reason.

I guess you would be totally normal if you were raised by Shauna and Jeff then.

Muted_Account_5045

Have you met teenagers?

Ok-Butterfly2994

i find these conversations weird because people can see the nuance in characters like shauna or misty - who undeniably have issues before the plane crash - and understand that they are teenagers. but callie gets a lot of hate from fans for acting like a pretty normal teenager who grew up with a mom who admits she doesn’t like her and emotionally distances herself from her because of her trauma.

reasonablykind

Probably because Shauna and Misty manage to be either like able or interesting (somewhat) DESPITE the crap (which I DON’T give them a pass on when it reaches mistreatment and murder) they’ve gone through, while Callie manages to be unlikeable despite not reaching these lows but also without their trauma (afawk). Her dad and her boyfriend haven’t done her wrong yet she doesn’t seem to treat them any nicer than she does Shauna.

BustANutHoslter

Her mom worse

agent-assbutt

She's so *powerful* though

Independent-Ring-877

I agree, Callie sucks, and I think the dynamic of Shauna *knowing* she sucks (but obviously still loving her) is an interesting one to explore on the show. You should listen to the Streaming Things podcast on this show. One of the hosts is also a Callie hater, lol.

MerylStreepsLilSis

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

pizzaondeathrow

yeah she’s so annoying but she got the shit end of the stick with her mum. she is really stroppy and whiny, girlie is crying out for a mother who puts her foot down

RussianAntlerQueen

I was listening to Simone on a podcast and she said the actress who plays Callie always jokes about how she is the most hated character on the show lol

thekatriarch

Shauna, is that you?

CalendarAggressive11

I cant stand her either. Tbf I find most teenage girls to be insufferable

dadadingdading

She is the WORST character and the actress looks 30 so i find it so hard to believe! Ugh

DeadWishUpon

I agree. One thing is being distant and other being rude. Indon't like her at all.
