My 40 yo ass just realized you're right. Why does this bottle look like it's from the 40's? We just had regular milk in plastic gallon jugs. Shout out to Mayfeild's for keeping me alive.
Milk was being sold to other far longer ago than your grandma.
In 1796, Edward Jenner noticed that milkmaids who were exposed to cowpox were later better protected against smallpox (which it turns out are related).
So he would intentionally infect people with cowpox as a preventative measure.
Things in science tend to get named after Latin or Greek words. The Latin word for cow is vacca. Thus vaccine.
So milk being sold has to be at least that old :p
Would it be sterile? Or is it like this? Bacteria bloom, consume all food, food runs out, but bacteria die and more bacteria eat dead bacteria in never ending cycle
Depends what bacteria and if sunlight can get to it. Ultimately, you need an outside energy source for an ecosystem to function.
Though it definitely won't be sterile. Bacteria don't necessarily die when food runs out. Often they will go dormant. Or the bacteria will die but it will leave behind dormant spores.
This is why you can buy little packets of dried yeast and have the yeast still be alive.
Also, live bacteria isn't always the danger. You can have old food left out for too many hours, cook it to kill everything, and it will still give food poisoning.
What country was this milk bottle from, because I did not see anything like that used in the United States 40 years ago, back then we used either the half gallon or full gallon of plastic jugs, or the cardboard milk cartons…

Doing the math and realizing that 40 years ago was 1984.
This is literally 1984
Double plus ungood
Victory milk
Nah I REFUSE to believe that
I read the title and I saw the bottle and thought, 1940s. The brains a funny thing!
1984 by George Orwell reference‽‽‽‽‽
No, Van Halen.

You know, it would have been just as easy to say nothing.
I wonder how biologically active it is. Does it get any significant amount of gas exchange through the lid or energy from light?
If that lid is anything like the 40yo plastic lids I handled before it's very porous and will break appart from just touching it

Dude, this unfortunately reminds me of a certain 4chan experiment involving a jar and a my little pony doll.
*¡GET OUT OF MY HEAD!*
Oh my god. Why would you remind me of that?!
What’s wrong with broken arms and chicken tenders instead???
That’s a really weird bottle for milk. Looks like it should be alcohol
Or hot sauce.
Forget drinking it, it just want you to crack it open and sniff
Instant pearly gates.
I’m genuinely wondering whether or not this is a troll post.
Looks fresh to me
take a swig, then
Milk has not been invented 40 years ago (the 80’s)
I knew you were lying but I still went to Google to check lol (I'm 25)
I guess overactive fact checking is better than believing everything.
I was like, no way my grandma is older than milk 😂

TIL
This could be a TIL post all by itself. Very cool. Thank you for the knowledge. :)
We only invented the cow 78 years ago
I thought they meant like pasteurized milk in a glass, and glass is at least 50 years old
*looks at hundreds of year old stained glass in churches and buildings across the world, yup 50 years*
He's right though, it wasn't invented 40 years ago, it was invented by nature many millions of years ago.
Nipples have been around for longer than that! I swear!

Exactly, the toxins produced by nhe bacteria are absolutely still there
It looks like you mixed Yoo-Hoo with bourbon and left it out in the sun for a day...
Finally

Hard to believe that 40 years ago was referring to the 80s
I looked at that photo and thought "Man the 50's were a wild time"
Send it to the LA beast
This right here is how superpowers are obtained! … or diarrhea
Send it to Ashens

That’s the worst flavor.
As my mom always says, blue cheese is just moldy milk. So I guess eat it?
That's like the milk left over from my grandpa but 100 times worst
That's a whole civilisation there,
Smell it
Me with all my misplaced confidence: ah yes the 1960's.
Why does it look like a bottle of arsenic or laudanum from 1814? 🤣💀
Opening that thing would prolly fry your nervous system
