no don’t be silly no tanks at this battle (bring them anyway as a surprise)

Arendious

Tanks? No, brother, this is Alpharius. *slaps roof of Mammoth*

Depends on what your list should look like honestly. Overall I would argue that tanks are one of the weakest units in Horus Heresy 2.0 due to suffering from so many downsides (vehicle damage table, movement restrictions, higher points price, reactions only with defensive weapons) while also being outclassed by their alternatives (e.g. dreadnoughts, landspeeders & heavy support squads). That does not mean its impossible to play tanks, but you need a properly built list around them. In theory the Alpha Legion trait should help them to stay alive, but since the most common anti-tank weapon you will be playing against is the lascannon (with 48" range) it wont be even nearly as strong as it is for Infantry. The biggest and most important thing you have to take a look at for deciding if you want to bring Tanks or not is what Rite of War you want to use in your army. If you want to use the classic "Headhunter Leviathal" RoW that most Alpha Legion players bring I would stay away from tanks as they are forced to start in Reserve, which is a hefty downside and would much better suit fast vehicles like flyers. On the other hand going for a Rite of War like "Armoured Spearhead" could also make quite an interesting and strong fully mechanized Alpha Legion force. Bringing so many tanks could overwhelm your opponents Anti-Tank capabilities, which would allow you to make full use of your firepower!

What do you think about the Mobius Configuration for tanks - suicide some cheap melee dudes and shoot with your tanks behind?

Der_Spanier

I could definitely see this work. You would most likely have to deploy your Alpha Legion tank force in a defensive position and I would also recommend rolling for Night Fighting to further weaken your Opponents firepower on Turn 1. And then on Turn 2 you let your Moebius Config Allies come in via Deepstrike to mess, with him while your tanks roll out of cover/up the Board to open fire! If you want a recommendation for your Allied Melee Legion I would think about using Blood Angels. They have a good Legion Trait, super strong Legion-Specific Units and a fantastic Rite of War to help you with your Strategy. I would probably play aim for a 1000pts Allied Detachment that looks something like this: **++ 52nd "Wings of the Angel" Assault Corps (IX: Blood Angels) [1,000Pts] ++** >**Legion: Blood Angels (IX)** >**Allegiance:** Loyalist >**Rite of War:** The Day of Revelation **+ HQ: +** >**Legion Praetor w/ Master-Crafted Paragon Blade, Bolt Pistol & Jump Pack [180Pts]** **+ Elites: +** >**Legion Apothecary** [60Pts] w/ Chainsword, Bolt Pistol & Jump Pack > >**Dawnbreaker Cohort** [300Pts] (1x Dawnbreaker Champion w/ Falling-Star Power Spear, Melta Bombs & Grenade Discharger + 9x Dawnbreaker w/ Falling-Star Power Spears, Melta Bombs & Grenade Dischargers) **+ Troops: +** >**Assault Squad** [240Pts] (1x Sergeant w/ Artificer Armour, Power Axe & Bolt Pistol + 3x Assault Legionaries w/ Power Spears & Boltpistols + 11 Assault Legionaries w/ Chainswords & Bolt Pistols) **+ Fast Attack: +** >**Contemptor-Incaendius Dreadnought** [220Pts] (w/ 2x Pravis Powerfists & 2x Arm-Mounted Meltaguns) **++ Total: [1,000Pts] ++** With the Day of Revelation Rite of War you can deploy the entire Allied Detachment into Reserve and let them savely come in on Turn 2 without needing to roll anything for Reserve or Deep Strike scattering and can immediatly charge any unit in range. All of these units are really powerful and hit like a truck in melee and can deal with both vehicles and infantry, which forces your opponent to deal with them or suffer massive casualties on his side (which should almost guarantee you to get those extra VP from them dying). Slap 2000pts of an Alpha Legion Tank Brigade as your main Detachment on top of this and you should have a really solid force on the field!

Wait can allied detachment have a right of war and praetor, along with main detachment right of war and praetor? In this case The Day of Revelation and The Mobius Configuration?

Der_Spanier

Of course they can. You can take 1 Master of the Legion per 1000pts of your army size. So you can already have two Praetors in a 2000pts list. If both of them are in a seperate detachment, both can bring a Rite of War. Also dont forget that The Moebius Configuration is a Warlord Trait and NOT a Rite of War! So you could even bring another Rite of War for your main Alpha Legion Force!

Wow that's really cool, thank you.

iamalphariusalso

I prefer flyers so half my army turns into screaming fire balls from sky fire but each is their own

SureStomach803

Hot take: you can also give ANY three units infiltrate or deep strike with Alpharius…. No restrictions against nominating vehicles. 9 predators starting in melta range with their magma melta cannons? Or scooting forward with inferno cannons and heavy flamers? Sure, why not.
