Definitely. And this may be a hot take but I think Tomoya's dad deserves an honorable mention too. He is definitely not perfect. He makes lots of mistakes. But the after story really shows that he wants to be what Tomoya needs. He's just completely in over his head and can't seem to get it right no matter how hard he tries.
Bunta from Initial D. I love when he finally gets his own Impreza and officially considers the 86 Takumi's car
Except he keeps all this a secret from Takumi and proceeds to smoke his own son in an unofficial race before he finds about the Impreza. All in the name of making his son a better racer
Byakuya Ishigami - Dr. stone
Hana (mom/dad/parent?) - Tokyo godfathers.
Kirishima Tooru - Yakuza's guide
Nitta, Yoshifumi - Hinamatsuri
Both dudes from Buddy daddies.
Papa Shirogane - Kaguya sama
Lily's dad - Zombieland saga
edit:
Edward Newgate (WB) - One piece
Buddy Daddies was such a great show. Wish I could watch it for the first time again. There’s something really satisfying about the end. You could make a whole new series with that ending!!
Go Takeo, truly pity him. He was wrong for pressuring Lily the way he did, but you know he truly did love his daughter, and still does.
I hope one day they can reunite properly.
That's Chopper, he's shaped differently and can bite you while eating cucumber but it's definitely Chopper not the fake one who loves eating cotton candy.
IIRC [Re:Zero S2 Q&A somewhere] >!There was a police investigation to try and find Subaru, which of course turned up empty. Subaru not saying goodbye to his mother before he left is a cultural implication that he wasn't thinking about coming back, so Subaru's disappearance looks very much like a suicide. His parents are tearfully passing each day. His dad is trying his best to comfort his mom, but it's not very effective!<.
It's funny, (not haha funny but-) the only reason he didn't say goodbye back was because he left a dirty glass of chocolate milk in the sink and didn't want to open the door to conversation about it.
Kenichi was the kind of dad to power bomb his depressed son. He didn't understand Subaru, but he stood by him and trusted him while pushing him in the only ways he knew how.
Paul o7
Really liked his character development. He feels very human/realistic compared to other anime dads. He has flaws, but he tries hard to be there for his family and give them the best chances.
I agree. out of every character in the show, he seemed the most realistic character of all, especially for the time period they are roughly set in. he's not perfect, but he loves his family in his own way.
I always saw it as a father son bonding thing since he knew Ichigo could handle it. Though when things got serious he was always there for him emotionally and supported him. Plus personally I love how he never tries to steal the spotlight from his son. He knows this isn't his story and he does not try to change that.
True, but compared to someone like Mays Hughes or Belgrieve the Red Ogre he just doesn't measure up. He was never a bad dad, just didn't stand out as an awesome dad. More comedic relief for most of the series.
Everyone always calls him Gohan's dad, but in reality he only spent a single year training him as Gohan was a kid.
Goku simply did have more time raising him from birth, and spent a good deal of time training Gohan in the time chamber before the Cell Games.
I really hate the narrative that Goku was a bad father.
Goku was objectively a bad father, though. He would be a great dad if not for his fatal flaw; his obsession with fighting.
No father in their right mind would do what Goku did to Gohan during the Cell Games. Remember how Piccolo had to be the one to remind him that Gohan was a still a child at the time? And only after that did Goku go beyond his fatal flaw for a brief moment and realize that... He fucked up.
In Dragonball Super he regresses. He's certainly kind and happy go lucky. But he doesn't prioritize his family and doesn't understand when Vegeta states that he wants to be present for the birth of his second child. Goku just comments about how he wasn't there for Goten, so it isn't a big deal.

Makarov from Fairy Tail. He not just made Laxus, his Grandchild, to a fine man but also took a lot of problem children in and raised them as his own family.
Akio from Clannad and Hughes from FMA:B are the two I love a ton!
Gintoki from Gintama isn't Kagura's biological father, but he's 100% a great father figure for her (and Shinpachi too for that matter), so I have to give him a shoutout as well.
Tbh personally I haven't gotten a father figure vibe from Gintoki at any point, I think he's much more like a big brother to both Kagura and Shinpachi. Like... all of them are constantly pissing each other off but they also clearly care about each other. I dunno, their dynamic just gives off sibling energy to me more than anything else.
Daikichi from 'Usagi Drop,' Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa from 'Buddy Daddies' are the first ones that come to mind.
I'm still only a few eps into 'Buddy Daddies,' but hopefully it won't change my opinion.
In all seriousness:
- The dad from Cardcaptor Sakura
- Igneel from Fairy Tail. Also Makarov since he was basically a dad to Laxus.
- Might duy (Naruto).
- Sochihiro Yagami to a fault (Death note)
- Dr Fudo (Yugioh 5ds). Managed to be a great dad while being a ghost.
- And of course the GOAT of all fathers Shikaku Nara (Also Naruto).
Oh man, you picked some awesome anime dads there! Isshin, Loid, and Naoki are definitely top contenders for best dad in anime.
Isshin from Bleach is jus the perfect balance of goofy and caring. The way he's always teasing his kids but then comes through for them when it really counts is so heartwarming. And the bond he has with his son Ichigo is just so genuine and wholesome.
Loid from Spy x Family is another great one. That guy is basically a mastermind heheh , but when it comes to his adopted daughter Anya, he just melts. The lengths he goes to to give her a normal, loving home life despite all the craziness around them is really admirable.
And Naoki from Bocchi The Rock might be a bit of an unconventional choice, but I love how supportive and understanding he is with his daughter Bocchi. He totally gets how socially anxious and awkward she is, but he never judges her for it. He just does his best to make her feel safe and comfortable.
Hmm, let me think, who else would I consider one of the best anime dads...oh, what about Toshiro's grandfather in Shokugeki no Soma? That old man is so gruff on the outside, but you can just tell how much he cares about his grandson and wants him to succeed. Their dynamic is fantastic.
And how could I forget Akio from Clannad? He might seem like a bit of a deadbeat at first, but he really steps up and becomes a rock for his daughter Nagisa when she needs him most. His unwavering love and support for her is so powerful.
Anyway, those are just a few
Paul from Mushoku Tensei, not a great person but for sure a great dad.
Whitebeard from One Piece, no introduction needed for the Oyaji of his entire crew.
Byakuya from Dr. Stone, there was a scene in S3 [spoilers]>!where he was collecting the platinum for Senku so long that he fainted, brought tears in my eyes!<
Akio from Clannad
Kazuma from Fruits Basket.
C'moon man.
I'm not gonna reference anything, not gonna say the name of the anime. But maan, they fkin did it on this specific day. Iykyk (otherwise I'm just gonna look crazy) 😆
I'm assuming you know what I'm talking about😆
I legit have to say Haruhi Fujioka’s father is hard yes for me on anime’s best dads. He tried filling the void of haruhi’s mother while also being her father at the same time
From my standing he was trying so hard to fulfill both roles for her so she wouldn’t feel like she was consistently missing something, but I guess Tamaki could make a good day to, who knows /shrug
Genma Saotome from Ranma 1/2 might be my personal favorite anime dad, but I heartily concur with Isshin and Loid (and Bunta from Initial D, as per another user here) as honorable mentions. All excellent dad characters.
Why tf is no one talking about Isshin? Dude's the only dad in the Big 3 that actually raised his son.
Also shoutout to Saigo and Gengai from Gintama, Thors from Vinland Saga, and Jotaro in Stone Ocean fanfics.
Honorable mention to Endeavor in MHA.
He was a terrible father. But in time, he recognized that fact, and he started rethinking his entire life philosophy and changing himself on a fundamental level. He forced himself to become a better person for the sake of his family. We all fall short, we all make mistakes, and the good men are the ones who face their flaws with humility and change to become who their family needs.
Not sure if he's the best but the dad in Tamako Market is always one of the first to come up when this question is asked.
[And then I have to watch this scene again](https://youtu.be/-NRk2QjTm5g?t=6)
These come to mind, though there might be more:
* George Joestar (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1)
* Miyagusuku George (Blood+)
* Maes Hughes (Fullmetal Alchemist)
* Hayato Yuzuki (Yuzuki-san chi no Yon Kyoudai. Technically not a biological dad, but he's kind of an "adoptive father" lol)
* Kazuki Kuruse (Buddy Daddies)
* Rei Suwa (Buddy Daddies)
* Reinhart Jamil (By the grace of Gods)
* Loid Forger (Spy x Family)
* Fujitaka Kinomoto (CardCaptor Sakura)
* Ryouji Ranka Fujioka (Ouran High school host club)
* Byakuya (Dr stone)
Tetsuo Tosu - My Home Hero
Dad kills his daughter's abusive Yakuza boyfriend, gets rid of his body, and then finds himself entangled in the mob to hide the fact that he killed one of their members.
He tries with all might to save his family from the mob.
He is a beautiful, shining example of what a kind, loving, brave, and decent father ought to be.
A real stand-up guy.
SN- I still hate his ungrateful daughter. Some kids really don't deserve their parents.
Top answer is and always will be Belgrieve the Red Ogre from "My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S Ranked Adventurer" dude literally had bad guys changing sides just because he went Dad Mode
Akio Furukawa from Clannad
This is my answer as well, along with gramps from 3-gatsu no Lion.
Also Ishigami Byakuya, from Dr Stone
That might just be the coolest man in anime to be fair
His monologue at the end of Clannad (pre-After Story) is so beautiful. Absolute perfection.
Yo! Yo! I’m MC Akio!
Came here to say this. The goat of Dads.
Definitely one of the best!
This is the ONLY right answer
yes!!
That was my answer!
Dude Tomoyas Dad does not deserve an honorable mention. He is a sympathetic character but was for the majority of his life a really bad father.
Good Dads need to be good in execution too, not just the idea of it.
Bunta from Initial D. I love when he finally gets his own Impreza and officially considers the 86 Takumi's car Except he keeps all this a secret from Takumi and proceeds to smoke his own son in an unofficial race before he finds about the Impreza. All in the name of making his son a better racer
Its a shame we never got to see them race. In the early seasons I thought for sure that would be the big final.
Best racing dad is also best dad
Would have loved a series about bunta
Belgrieve from "My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer"
Belgrieve the Red Ogre?!?
Father of the Black-Haired Valkyrie!?
This was my answer as well
Byakuya Ishigami - Dr. stone Hana (mom/dad/parent?) - Tokyo godfathers. Kirishima Tooru - Yakuza's guide Nitta, Yoshifumi - Hinamatsuri Both dudes from Buddy daddies. Papa Shirogane - Kaguya sama Lily's dad - Zombieland saga edit: Edward Newgate (WB) - One piece
Buddy Daddies was such a great show. Wish I could watch it for the first time again. There’s something really satisfying about the end. You could make a whole new series with that ending!!
It’s an anime original so that was probably the point lol
Byakuya really went the extra mile
That man had total faith in what his kid could do. And given the insane things his kid could do, he might have been slightly underestimating.
Go Takeo, truly pity him. He was wrong for pressuring Lily the way he did, but you know he truly did love his daughter, and still does. I hope one day they can reunite properly.
Papa Shirogane is such a hoot.
Ayo from a Chopper pfp, no Whitebeard in the list was surprising.
That's not Chopper. Also, he does qualify , yeah I'll add him lol
That's Chopper, he's shaped differently and can bite you while eating cucumber but it's definitely Chopper not the fake one who loves eating cotton candy.
Fake it till you make it. He is a real one.
Thors from Vinland Saga
Lmao when I showed this anime to my mom she was so excited by the beginning of episode 3 to watch and adventure story with Viking parent and child….
My condolences 🗿
You have no enemies.
Eh thors was a great man and taught his son some profound things. But he wasn't the greatest dad
FMAB with best dad Hughes and worst dad Tucker lol
Hughes is best dad and best man
I always loved Nina and her dog. They were just inseparable.
💀💀💀
You motherfu-
Tucker really helped them bond.
The dad from Re:Zero. Not in I much - just one episode - but he’s a top guy
Definitely I can see why subaru wanted to be just like his dad.dude is awsome
I felt so bad for his mom and dad after that episode. I wonder how they are doing now that their son is gone.
Holy shit. I know this show likes suffering, but damn.
That’s way too sad. Now I’m hoping somehow he can reach out to them somehow in the future. His parents were too sweet to hear this.
It's funny, (not haha funny but-) the only reason he didn't say goodbye back was because he left a dirty glass of chocolate milk in the sink and didn't want to open the door to conversation about it.
Whelp, that's going to make me cry for a bit, thanks.
Kenichi was the kind of dad to power bomb his depressed son. He didn't understand Subaru, but he stood by him and trusted him while pushing him in the only ways he knew how.
I was also thinking that, he really left a lasting impression on me even years later.
Does Loid from spy x family count?
The fact that Anya genuinely loves and views Loid as her dad despite knowing the true identities of her parents is so wholesome to me.
yep
It's a crime I haven't seen Maes Hughes from full metal alchemist. Mam was a loving husband and doting father.
Byakuya Ishigami from Dr. Stone
- Akio (Clannad) - Takahiro (Chino's dad; GochiUsa) - Thors (Vinland Saga) - Gunther (Ascendance of a Bookworm)
Wow. I was not expecting A character from Bookworm to be mentioned. I definitely agree.
Does Iruka from Naruto count?
Father figure, I suppose that counts.
On Father’s Day, blood does not matter. It’s the ones who show up who matter <3
Definitely the better pick than Hiruzen lmao
I DEFINITELY count Iruka.
Definitely. I consider Whitebeard one of the best dads ever and he's not blood related to any of his kids.
honestly, Paul greyrat in the most recent episode of jobless was pretty awesome.
Paul o7 Really liked his character development.
For sure the most "human" anime dad, with flaws and all. Most anime dad's are barely an actual character
Man the last 5 minutes of that episode were rough. Like it just kept getting worse and now I'm wondering who's going to be living with him.
Mao Mao’s dad (her adopted one).
also, Mao Mao's dad (the demon lord)
Her real one too tbh
Gaoshun too
Kazuki and Rei from Buddy Daddies :)
The Hell Lord from "Tis Time for Torture, Princess"
He is the all around full package. Best dad. Best boss. Bess husband. Best weeb.
Absolutely top-tier
I really like ichigo's dad
Didn't he repeatedly drop kick Ichigo?
I always saw it as a father son bonding thing since he knew Ichigo could handle it. Though when things got serious he was always there for him emotionally and supported him. Plus personally I love how he never tries to steal the spotlight from his son. He knows this isn't his story and he does not try to change that.
True, but compared to someone like Mays Hughes or Belgrieve the Red Ogre he just doesn't measure up. He was never a bad dad, just didn't stand out as an awesome dad. More comedic relief for most of the series.
Yeah, overall it all just comes down to preference
Piccolo
I think he really hit his stride as best grandpa to Pan. Early Piccolo/Gohan was rather abusive.
I mean he did need to learn to dodge
Everyone always calls him Gohan's dad, but in reality he only spent a single year training him as Gohan was a kid. Goku simply did have more time raising him from birth, and spent a good deal of time training Gohan in the time chamber before the Cell Games. I really hate the narrative that Goku was a bad father.

Uncle Iroh from Avatar.

Kinda shit dad unless you’re meaning as a father figure to Zuko
Makarov from Fairy Tail. He not just made Laxus, his Grandchild, to a fine man but also took a lot of problem children in and raised them as his own family.
im so glad someone mentioned makarov-- he's a dad to almost everyone in Fairy Tail!
Akio from Clannad and Hughes from FMA:B are the two I love a ton! Gintoki from Gintama isn't Kagura's biological father, but he's 100% a great father figure for her (and Shinpachi too for that matter), so I have to give him a shoutout as well.

Kyros from One Piece
Add on to that Kuma from One Piece. Won't say more but iykyk!
Daikichi from 'Usagi Drop,' Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa from 'Buddy Daddies' are the first ones that come to mind. I'm still only a few eps into 'Buddy Daddies,' but hopefully it won't change my opinion.
Nobody tells him
I want to so bad though.
Pls. No. I’d like to think anime has separate ending like FMA vs FMAB.
> Daikichi from 'Usagi Drop’ Lol
Why not Daikichi?
Do yourself a favour and do not look up the manga Do not do it Do not Live in blissful ignorance
...okaaaayyy.... Now I'm worried. I wasn't planning on reading the manga anyways.
Let's just say that anime Daikichi is indeed a good dad. And stop there. Please.
Sounds like a plan. 👌
In all seriousness: - The dad from Cardcaptor Sakura - Igneel from Fairy Tail. Kinda crazy that someone unironically said Endeavor lol like it’s kool he’s in his atonement phase but some shit just can’t be dismissed
Gunther from Ascendance of A Bookworm
Byakuya Ishigami cleara
I will not make the FM/FMB joke, I will not make the FM/FMB joke, I will not make the FM/FMB joke.
There is no arguing that Shou Tucker made is daughter what she is today.
İsshin Kurosaki for sure

I think Fujimoto from Blue Exorcist is pretty good. I haven’t seen the newest season yet so idk if anything has changed but I remember him being good.
shikaku nara
Iruka Umino
I legit have to say Haruhi Fujioka’s father is hard yes for me on anime’s best dads. He tried filling the void of haruhi’s mother while also being her father at the same time
That was the first one who came to mind for me, too.
From my standing he was trying so hard to fulfill both roles for her so she wouldn’t feel like she was consistently missing something, but I guess Tamaki could make a good day to, who knows /shrug
Kuga Yuma father World trigger
Kazuma from fruits basket, one of the few good parents in that series
Dr. Hiriluk
Kuma from One Piece is top tier
Professor Kukui from pokemon Sun and Moon, his relationship with ash is really good
Kukui really was the father figure Ash was missing. Their relationship was one of several things that made Sun and Moon special.
After this week ep , definitely paul from mushoku tensei
This might be cheating becuse he is from a Manga and not an Anime but I choose the ancient Dragon God from "Dragon Daddy Diaries"
Shin Reglia and Celis Voldigoad (Maou Gakuin)
Genma Saotome from Ranma 1/2 might be my personal favorite anime dad, but I heartily concur with Isshin and Loid (and Bunta from Initial D, as per another user here) as honorable mentions. All excellent dad characters.
Tatsu from The Way of the Househusband 🙌 Love this fucking show, still waiting for next season.
I was about to say, father? But then he is indeed a father in the live action.
Wait theres a live action wooahhh 😲
Piccolo

I mean Sho Tucker made sure his daughter would never be separated from her best friend so he’s gotta be up there, right?
Yep. Basically joined at the hip for forever.
Honorable mention to Endeavor in MHA. He was a terrible father. But in time, he recognized that fact, and he started rethinking his entire life philosophy and changing himself on a fundamental level. Tetsuo Tosu
These come to mind, though there might be more: * George Joestar (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1) * Miyagusuku George (Blood+) * Maes Hughes (Fullmetal Alchemist)
George was so good Dio ALMOST decided not to murder him. ALMOST.

Mine was Maes Hughes from Fullmetal alchemist
Paul greyrat, he isn't perfect he had some moments but still he does everything for his family and protects them no matter the cost.
Tetsuo Tosu - My Home Hero Dad kills his daughter's abusive Yakuza boyfriend, gets rid of his body, and then finds himself entangled in the mob to hide the fact that he killed one of their members.
