Indo vegetarian eatery Warung Ijo, which used to be at Beach Road. Probably priced out by the rent, it moved to Tai Seng. Even during weekday lunchtime, the crowd is so-so only.
The mushroom rendang is to die for.
The food quality went down after they changed their concept to "sustainable fishing" imo
Service went down after that one uncle is no longer there (not sure what happened to him, I hope he retired and not died)
We used to go to that place every single year during CNY eve. Highlight of my year.
Is it really that nice...? Went there and the beef was mostly chunks of fats and I waited 1 hour for it because they forgot about my order. Maybe I'm unlucky.
Namino Hana at Raffles Place for Japanese bento. Beats all the Japanese restaurants bento in the shopping centres. Prices are affordable at that place, all at $10++ for 1 bento + drink/salad.
Salmon and chicken teriyaki would be my recommendation.
Menu at the link
https://www.naminohana.co/menu
this was my go to place for lunch! Queue is horrendous at lunch time though so i wouldnt say they are underrated. My fav is the Chicken teriyaki or meatballs.
I also like Lazy Lizard. The food is nice and they have lots of promotions like kids eat free, etc. No idea why the crowd is not strong.
I highly recommend their rack of pork. Can't find in any other restaurant.
14 Haig Road Market , Xiang Ji Chicken Rice! Consistently so good, tender chicken and fragrant rice. If you eat there, they give soup and idk what's in it but so, so tasty - not MSG water. Hawker uncle also very nice cause he also feeds the underprivileged free chicken rice.
Shen Ji Chicken Rice at Ghim Moh FC. They relocated from Tanglin Halt a year ago. There are 3 chicken rice stalls on the same row at Ghim Moh FC. The couple that runs the stall are very sweet and polite. I wish more people know about them. Their stall is right in the middle and is the quietest. Tong Fong has the longest queue but in my opinion, itās really not as good.
Alexandra Central Mall there used to be a fish hotpot steamboat restaurant called Blanco Court that had the most delicious fish steamboat and zichar dishes. Donāt know what happened but it closed down 3 years ago and i havenāt been able to find a more delicious zichar.
Westgate food court Mala stall is the best I had and I tried around 30 so far all over the place.. fancy and cheap places, most of them sucked by barely cooking the veg (I hate when they serve you near raw veg.. gives weird texture when it's half cooked half limp or when potatoes are crunchy from being raw)
That's literally one of the few places I had that fully cook their stuff to perfect level, the fish has crispy skin, ask for extra bean paste.
Blue spoon!
They used to be just below my block, chicken stew was awesome. Unfortunately, they didnāt do too well and I think are now a home based business. But food looks every bit legit
Kumo@alexandra central. If you work near by, can go there for lunch. Buffet style, is like 35 nett per pax? Sashimi fresh and wide variety of other cooked food like yakitori and tempura.
Donāt expect Hilton level of taste but for that 30ish nett, once a month kind of bougie office lunch place
Thatās our go -to restaurant for affordable sashimi set. But on our last visit a month ago, their service was slow and the portions have shrunk. A big plus, they validate parking in the building.
Prince coffee house, along Beach Rd. Serves old school Hainanese-Western fare, and their weekday lunch sets (changes daily) are very worth it! The owner and his staff are all very warm and friendly. You can also dabao their excellent chicken pies and yam cakes off the shelf. Very traditional, old school taste.
Siamese critters restaurant.
Their maggot stew is the bomb. Deep fried maggots in spicy sweet sticky cream sauce.
Taste like Ikan bilis and only cost $5 a bowl. What a steal
Chirashi don is still the best I have eaten at that price range of 40 though. Happy to try out any other recommendations
Was it ever at lucky plaza? I am referring to the one at taka.
I went to their OG outlet when they just open. It was at a dingy corner at Far East Plaza and mind was I blown away. It was still very good when they shifted to a bigger premise within Far East plaza and later open another outlet at taka.
Havenāt been there for a couple of years since I donāt go orchard area very frequently now. Think their other outlet at tampines is closed now as well.
Edit: Far East Plaza and not lucky plaza
Ziggy Zaggy has great selection of soul food (biscuits and gravy, jambalaya, BBQ ribs) plus craft sake and beer on tap. It's dog-friendly too. Location is a little inaccessible from public transport, so even on the eve of a public holiday it's easy to book a table or even walk in.
It's substantial and savoury-mildly spicy, but I usually get biscuits and gravy. Ever since Soul Kitchen closed this place scratches my itch for Cajun cuisine.
Of the top of my head, Pagi Sore, an indonesian cuisine restaurant. I've noticed it is empty often, and yet they have survived many years (but closed down 1 of their other branches).
The food there is bloody delicious, but I understand why it'd be empty - pricing.
It is very expensive, but I can't find any indo food that's better than them so far. Other supposedly popular indo food places I've tried felt very underwhelming and overpriced.
They have the very awesome tauhu telur that has this gorgeous fried crispy egg coating and paired well with their signature sauce.
They make a mean grilled Ayam bali, and have bloody delicious calamari, buttered prawn and kankong belachan. They also provide free flow pandan rice, wrapped up in banana leafs i think
I consider them the best indo food here so far, but sadly because of their price (mostly prawn and calamari cost a lot), I reserve them as an annual bday treat.
There are so many over the years. One that I'm particularly salty about is Bakmi Town in Lucky Plaza. Like many such places, it's not even that empty relative to its size, and it's not like it had many close competitors in the offerings that it's known for.
F&B in Singapore is just a wasteland filled with the corpses of the undeserving and scavengers that over little value but are somehow very resilient. Uncontrollable rent is probably a big killer.
Unfortunately have to disagree with this. Have eaten better food at lower or even the same price. The Tea Party for example, has better spaghetti at lower price.
Indo vegetarian eatery Warung Ijo, which used to be at Beach Road. Probably priced out by the rent, it moved to Tai Seng. Even during weekday lunchtime, the crowd is so-so only. The mushroom rendang is to die for.
Haha, it's result #1 when I Google Warung, Google rates it.
yup! the food is actually really good. but crowd defo cant be compared to when it was at beach road.
This place has been on my list even before it moved to Tai Seng š© What other dishes do you recommend?
Oyster omelette also nice. I forgot what else I ordered but every single plate was wiped out.
Ty! Should probably go with a larger group to try more dishes.
Yes, 3-4 pax can really eat more. Their spicy dishes are really good. To bad itās so far for me now
The singkong santan is another must order!
Ooh I love this dish. Thanks for the rec!
Carnivore here. Tried Warung Ijo when I was catching up with a vegetarian friend. I loved it and have been back. Highly underrated.
goated restaurant
another +1 for this! Love their rendang is amazing.
The sambal is to die for. Used to buy a jar for $15 for at home consumption
Key question. Does it have good mie goreng?
Absolutely, and you can tell them to omit egg to make it vegan.
loved their coconut rice!!!
Following!
Peteās Place, though I guess it was rated correctly since itās shutteredĀ I might be dating myself here
Damn, that's a 90s relic.
The food quality went down after they changed their concept to "sustainable fishing" imo Service went down after that one uncle is no longer there (not sure what happened to him, I hope he retired and not died) We used to go to that place every single year during CNY eve. Highlight of my year.
How about Copper Kettle or Silver Spoon :)
Omg silver spoon. Nostalgia.
Silver spoon is a coffee shop right?
This was my first time trying proper Italian food many years ago. I remember being so shocked when they took out the huge cheese thing haha
Charlieās Peranakan at Beach Road market basement and The French Ladle at Pandan Valley
I go to the French Ladle pretty often because my family stays nearby. They're alright, but I won't be going out of my way just to go there.
French ladle is still there? They're fairly pricey given their hole in the wall feel.
Yup. For the quality of food, I find them pretty reasonable. I also enjoy the quaint hominess tbh.
The duck confit is one of the best Iāve had
Rubicon steakhouse
Is it really that nice...? Went there and the beef was mostly chunks of fats and I waited 1 hour for it because they forgot about my order. Maybe I'm unlucky.
The very definition of diamond in the rough
Shhh!
Myo Restobar, hidden restaurant near the top of Oxley Tower. Love their dim sum and claypot chicken/fish.
After this it would no longer be underrated š
If we know where to go in the first place. Otherwise it will stay underrated. Hence this post š
Which is why I refuse to share my recommendations. :(
Namino Hana at Raffles Place for Japanese bento. Beats all the Japanese restaurants bento in the shopping centres. Prices are affordable at that place, all at $10++ for 1 bento + drink/salad. Salmon and chicken teriyaki would be my recommendation. Menu at the link https://www.naminohana.co/menu

I don't work there but I will go there from Yishun for dinner at times š
Thanks for the recommendation! It is indeed good and affordable.
Oh I'm so near and have never noticed this, must go and try soon
Cha re re also pretty good Korean food, its 2 doors down from namino
Cai png under redhill mrt, I think its ridiculous I dont ususally have to queue.
I also like Lazy Lizard. The food is nice and they have lots of promotions like kids eat free, etc. No idea why the crowd is not strong. I highly recommend their rack of pork. Can't find in any other restaurant.
cos their regular items are pretty expensive, and not everyone has kids
14 Haig Road Market , Xiang Ji Chicken Rice! Consistently so good, tender chicken and fragrant rice. If you eat there, they give soup and idk what's in it but so, so tasty - not MSG water. Hawker uncle also very nice cause he also feeds the underprivileged free chicken rice.
breakthrough cafe at changi village. (social enterprise which hires ex-convicts)
A friend of mine just mentioned this to me. Twice in a week. Itās a sign! Must try
Maybe the commenter is your friend
Chirashizushi Shou
Honestly one of the best value-for-money Jap restaurants around.
Hee Hee Hee Steamed Fish at BLK 79A Circuit Road
Shen Ji Chicken Rice at Ghim Moh FC. They relocated from Tanglin Halt a year ago. There are 3 chicken rice stalls on the same row at Ghim Moh FC. Can't get over Zsa Zsa's Warung at Jalan Kayu closing in 2006. Most chill place ever
Shoutout to Fengshan 85 Market Meepok stall besides the chicken rice stall. (cant remember the name)
Bizen
Bizen steak is decent if u get the right cut and chef (not very consistent) but the sides spoil the whole experience
So nothing at the west? Oh my haha
iO Italian Osteria at Hillview!
its quite fairly rated, stick to the question please
specifically, DA BREAD at iO but yes it is fairly rated
Westgate food court Mala stall is the best I had and I tried around 30 so far all over the place.. fancy and cheap places, most of them sucked by barely cooking the veg (I hate when they serve you near raw veg.. gives weird texture when it's half cooked half limp or when potatoes are crunchy from being raw) That's literally one of the few places I had that fully cook their stuff to perfect level, the fish has crispy skin, ask for extra bean paste.
The one at basement near sushi express?
B1 Food Court, yes near sushi express.
Blue spoon! They used to be just below my block, chicken stew was awesome. Unfortunately, they didnāt do too well and I think are now a home based business. But food looks every bit legit

How do you get Kumo down to $35 per pax? Their insta says the buffet $48.90++
Thatās our go -to restaurant for affordable sashimi set. But on our last visit a month ago, their service was slow and the portions have shrunk. A big plus, they validate parking in the building.
Capasso at Telok Ayer!
Dju dju nasi Padang. The best. Ever. Too bad they decide to retire and close.
laksa at public house which was at the rendezvous hotel
Fooās House @ Upper Changi Road Oxtail stew and home brewed iced lemon tea.
Jln Pari Burong! I worked part time there about 10 years ago in between jobs and I made the ILT there!
Mr Mamak @ Changi Village Great Indian food at great prices too šš
Blue balls cafe at Pasir Panjang
Armenour was a great restaurant before it closed. They had this tuna salad thingie that I still think about to this dayā¦
Bara at Tanjong Pagar serves some really nice Indonesian food
Prince coffee house, along Beach Rd. Serves old school Hainanese-Western fare, and their weekday lunch sets (changes daily) are very worth it! The owner and his staff are all very warm and friendly. You can also dabao their excellent chicken pies and yam cakes off the shelf. Very traditional, old school taste.
bebek goreng pak ndut lucky plaza. Ive eaten there more times than I care to admit. really good duck
Siamese critters restaurant. Their maggot stew is the bomb. Deep fried maggots in spicy sweet sticky cream sauce. Taste like Ikan bilis and only cost $5 a bowl. What a steal
Hue restaurant
Sushi bar is one of my fav but the crowd seemed to have disappeared
Used to be good back when it was at lucky plaza, since it moved it has become overpriced and overrated Edit: Far East Plaza
Chirashi don is still the best I have eaten at that price range of 40 though. Happy to try out any other recommendations Was it ever at lucky plaza? I am referring to the one at taka.

Think you're referring to Far East Plaza?
Oops yes you are correct! Let me edit that

Have you tried the jambalaya? How is it
It's substantial and savoury-mildly spicy, but I usually get biscuits and gravy. Ever since Soul Kitchen closed this place scratches my itch for Cajun cuisine.
Agreed, although their drinks and bar snacks are priced pretty steeply. $8 for nachos alone, have to top-up for guac.
Josh Grill's Fried Chicken Cutlet is amazing!
Yes, a Nonya restaurant that I only knew through Groupon, probably why it closed down.
Of the top of my head, Pagi Sore, an indonesian cuisine restaurant. I've noticed it is empty often, and yet they have survived many years (but closed down 1 of their other branches). I used to love this Fish & Chip store at East Coast Park about 20 years ago. I forgot the name of the place but the fish and chips were good.
Hot tomato
I love hot tomato!!! The aglio olio just hits the spot. Might be nostalgia
Saizeriya
Hahaā¦.Itās actually improved a lot though. I would go so far as to say itās very good value now
Maccerdees. Theyāve quite a few outlets.
There are so many over the years. One that I'm particularly salty about is Bakmi Town in Lucky Plaza. IT CLOSE DOWN??????? that store was really good - and the martabak god
Yeah. Not sure why I'm getting downvoted. Some people got butthurt for some reason lol.
Swensens. Affordable and common. No need to dine in at atas places for expensive food at the same category.
Unfortunately have to disagree with this. Have eaten better food at lower or even the same price. The Tea Party for example, has better spaghetti at lower price.
Swensens is a top contender for overrated imo, its always crowded but the food is really eh for its price point.
The food in swensen is disgusting. Very low quality & cheap ingredients and poor technique
tea party!!!
Itās individual preference uh. Donāt want to exceed budget
It's extremely crowded!
It is.
Do you understand what underrated means? How is it underrated when it's crowded?
Poor Dom, I also do enjoy Swensens meals, but not their ice creams
