In a statement on Sunday afternoon, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community remembered Mr Tahir as “a cherished member of our community and a dedicated security guard who tragically lost his life while serving the public during this attack”. “Faraz Tahir, aged 30, sought refuge in Australia just a year ago, fleeing persecution in his home country of Pakistan,” the statement continued.

RainbowTeachercorn

Poor guy had only been working that job for a week as well. So sad all around.

Aware-Leather2428

Apparently was his first day. Absolutely horrific.

aguybrowsingreddit

His first day shift. Sounds like he'd done 4 night shifts before that. Not that it really matters but that's how I read it.

RainbowTeachercorn

Wow, that's even worse! Poor guy.

downunderplus61

To think this poor bloke died for a security guards level 2 hourly rate of $25.99/hr if he was paid the award, some operators don't even pay that much. Minimum wage in Australia is $23.23/hr.

DrunkTides

After having to flee persecution and become a refugee… heartbreaking man 😭

ZealousidealNewt6679

As an ex-security guard, I can confirm those numbers. Most Security companies are run by crooks here.

Ok_Zookeepergame_368

It's absolutely terrible when you consider that wage.... Something to look at is, all the big well experienced security guards work the night shifts at bars/clubs for much higher wages. These rates should be paid to say staff doing the same job... With no disrespect intended the young guard who lost his life, that coward knife maniac would've been stopped in his tracks pretty quickly by a few aggressive, conflict ready 'Bouncers' that you see at clubs.

Sterndoc

I got to say, that's not enough money for me to risk my life in that role.

Capital-Mine-6991

Well shit RIP buddy

_the_deep_weeb

Incredible tragedy :(

Sad_Egg_4264

And another security guard is in hospital, badly injured.

dogecoin_pleasures

How does this story keep getting worse in terms of cruel irony. First a victim literaly named "Good", now a muslim refugee killed first day on the job with the added insult of social media blaming his demographic. Probably died heroically too.

crossfitvision

Read countless comments yesterday mouthy nuffies blaming security guards. Saw a few stupid comments on Reddit, but Facebook and Instagram comments were around 80% baseless shit. Saw a guy who wasn’t there post that “security ran away”. So many BS comments were taken as fact, only to be proven completely false. People can’t wait even a short time before making up the “facts for themselves.

EducationalTangelo6

I think these people make up facts based on what they would do in the same situation. They would run away - so they project and accuse security guards of doing it.  Morons, the lot of them.

1gorgeousGeorge

That or they'd get it on video.. maybe both

theSober2ndThought

I wonder if the security guards were one of the guys on the escalator.

nightraindream

They were a construction worker, last I saw. I think his name is Damien Guerot.

enigmasaurus-

I don't know Mr. Tahir but we met many members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community after my child made a good friend in preschool; the parents invited us to some of their church dinners and the whole community were lovely, kind and welcoming. It's sad to think Faraz died trying to help others in the face of horrible circumstances, but I'll think of him as someone who fought to protect others. RIP Faraz.

minigmgoit

Just burst into tears. Reality bites. This is so fucking fucked.

[deleted]

[удалено]

miss_flower_pots

The person doing the stabbing isn't Muslim. He's a white dude from Queensland.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cofactorstrudel

Ok but there's no indication that he was Muslim so why are you saying it?

purl__clutcher

All the know it all's asking where was security, here's your answer. Damn

Money-Implement-5914

He showed a fuckton more courage than most people would.

[deleted]

And anyone saying that acting like mall security have a duty to put their lives on the line for their job have absolutely no idea. This guy went above and beyond and unfortunately this was the outcome. Very sad.

annoying97

Damn right, I'm a security guard myself, we have zero obligations to put our lives on the line. I can't say what I'd do in a similar situation.

ycnz

No judgment on that, either. Don't ever risk your life for shareholder profits. Protecting the public, you have the same lack of obligations as any other staff member.

LurkForYourLives

You never know until it happens. We had an incident at our locals shops. Bogan trash beating on some young migrants. Apparently my primal response was interference and defence. Scared the crap out of myself after the dust settles and I realised what I’d done. Didn’t know I had that in me. Kids got back to their car safely though.

crossfitvision

It’s shocking how many people think putting their lives on the line is a professional obligation of security guards in shopping centres. The “keyboard heroes” were out in unprecedented force yesterday. Faraz Tahir was a legitimate hero.

crossfitvision

So much blame on security, and also a lot of comments from dudes publicly stating that “they wish they were there to stop him”. People were seriously saying this. Sums up modern society where people will say anything behind a keyboard. Who would actually wish to be in such a traumatic situation.

dundasbro1

And all the know it alls saying that the perpetrator was surely Muslim and the media was suppressing that information in the name of political correctness can also fuck off

josephus1811

This incident has made me so sad from all the assholes simply searching for someone to hate. Look in the mirror. Joel Cauchi is the manifestation of Australia 2024.

TwistingEcho

Poor dude, obviously wasn't hiding. You don't truly know what your capable of till the situation is on you. Everything about this situation is horrific.

Traditional_Sky_4703

Exactly! Fear and panic grips you, the extreme anxiety can be overwhelming for most. Soldiers and Police train for this, this bloke probably may never have. Shows the man he is. He stepped up.

Proxyplanet

Fled persecution in Pakistan. Stabbed to death in Australia. Fk.

zxcvrao

His first day on the job, according to [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13306337/amp/Faraz-Tahir-Security-guard-killed-Westfield-Bondi-Junction-stabbing-massacre-identified.html). Edit: first *week* on the job, with Saturday being his *first day shift*, according to [SMH](https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/bondi-junction-attack-live-updates-sydney-reeling-after-stabbing-attack-leaves-multiple-dead-critically-injured-in-city-s-eastern-suburbs-20240413-p5fjlp.html?post=p55v4p#p55v4p).

T0nySt5rk

Poor bugger that’s some rotten luck if that’s true.

F00dbAby

What a nightmare situation his poor family.

MalaysianinPerth

Hell, that's terrible luck. Any fundraiser for my man. It's so tragic

Tootsie_r0lla

Fr?!

imamage_fightme

That's honestly tragic. I heard he'd just started, so he was probably just getting his life together here.

birdington1

Ironic how everyone tried to pin this as a Muslim attack yet the actual Muslim was the one putting their life on the line to protect everyone else. The arrogant racism we have is absurd.

Blocka10

I’m not sure if it’s just me or not but I feel like since the no vote for the voice won it’s just gave all the closet racists the go ahead to just not hide it anymore

11Shade11

100% agree, now they're even more emboldened to post absolute nonsense.

Tymareta

> since the no vote They were doing it well before then, just look at movements like Reclaim Australia or the fact that PHON and her extremists have been getting a platform for decades, just look at any of the rhetoric around Chinese people, immigrants, "stop the boats", etc...

seanmonaghan1968

These things happen like once a decade in Australia, talk about bad luck. So sad

Fijoemin1962

Sadly Ironic. Poor man

[deleted]

I saw a lot of comments asking where security was well I hope this helps answer their question. Those same people making those comments not realising how limited in action security guards can actually take in incidents like this. There's also irony in those who were quick to blame Muslims and sprout their personal views on Muslims then go quiet after full details were revealed.

TinyDetail2

Security guards aren't allowed to carry weapons. Anyone who expected him to subdue a knife weilding crazy person with his bare hands is an idiot. The fact he tried anyway is brave. Braver than me.

Leading-Date-5465

Pretty sure most security guards are not licensed or employed to put a hand on anyone, my understanding is the ones we see most often are actually taught not to touch people but to deescalate through communication or simply follow/observe/report to police. The idea that some people expected anyone with no way to defend themselves and no real tactical training to suddenly take down an armed person is laughable.

InsertUsernameInArse

Only security guards who touch people are guys working the door at pubs and clubs.

Kermit-Batman

Mental health hospitals as well and unless urgent it's a team effort/clinically lead by nurses. That's my job, myself and the other guards would go hands on at least three times a month. I hate that side of it, people get the wrong idea of the guards sometimes, we always try to talk to the upset person first. I get it, most of the time! I'd be mega pissed off if I was locked up.

ZealousidealNewt6679

This is correct. Retail security guards have no legal rights to handle or detain anyone. Only guards on licensed premises have the right to go hands-on. And then every time you do touch anyone it's a heap of paperwork. I was a Bouncer for 6 years.

Burncity1901

Policy makes it so that we can’t touch anyone. We can though to get people out of a nightclub. Unfortunately companies pay those people more money due to a higher physical removals. A manager for a company I worked for had Broken peoples faces, arms and other things. And brags about it. Which is the main reason I left them.

EggFancyPants

Yah, I, a small female, was thrown down the stairs onto broken glass by two jacked security guards at a King St nightclub.

Equal-Ad-2710

Yeah armed security is its own course and we’re not trained how to directly take people down outside of the usual “grab arms” method. It’s a lot of on the job learning

Money-Implement-5914

Tbh, I'd probably run too. I wouldn't be proud of it, but it's the truth.

Baldricks_Turnip

I wish they were allowed to carry pepper spray.

InsertUsernameInArse

Security ask people to leave. They are not trained, equipped or expected to fend off attackers. This guy was a champ.

Consistent-Flan1445

100%. At my workplaces that have had security, they always worked more as mediators between management and aggressive or angry customers, and at deescalating situations. Once it escalates into a physical fight, threats, or an attack it becomes an issue of calling police and having them assist instead. This bloke went above and beyond. Nothing but respect for him.

Tootsie_r0lla

The movies have ruined people's understanding of what their job scope is

DisappointedQuokka

The sorts of security that are armed and prepped to take care of this sort of shit aren't patrolling shopping centres lmao. It's truly baffling that people expect security staff in Australia to do some defence contractor shit.

Tootsie_r0lla

I'm not saying they do. I was saying there are other options to firearms that the above u/ made a comment

DisappointedQuokka

I know *you're* not saying that, I was just piling in.

Tootsie_r0lla

Shit dude sorry

DisappointedQuokka

all g, mate

ryan30z

> They are not trained, equipped or expected to fend off attackers. Pretty much no one is trained to take on a knife attack unarmed. 99% of knife defence is bullshido nonsense. It's always done in slow motion with a cooperative partner. You can watch elite level grapplers try to defend an attack from a training knife, they get tagged so many times. If you can't disarm someone by the time they get into their reach, it's going to end badly. Anyone who confronted the attacker went above and beyond.

eenimeeniminimo

Security used to be security 10+ years ago. In retail at least, it’s slowly evolved into an industry full of immigrants being paid f all as the security firms pay cash in hand to undercut each other for contracts. Any muscle, strength or experience in subduing an offender is rare. If you think a ‘security guard’ is there to protect customers or ensure a level of safety, you are mistaken. They’re there to deter theft and even then they mostly will do very little with an aggressive offender. I mean if you were new to this country, probably being paid sub $20 an hour, would you take on an armed offender? Looks like this brave guy did though. Just an absolute tragedy he came to Australia for a better life, and ended up not even being safe at work. May he rest in peace.

InsertUsernameInArse

I walked out of a security licence course years ago because it was such a joke.

demonotreme

What do you even learn? The basic legalities of assault and reasonable force etc? Seems like quite a few private security could stand a refresher course

InsertUsernameInArse

Honestly mate I couldn't give you an accurate recollection. But the long and short of it was when you were in a company security uniform you could do LESS than Joe blogs. It was more about not getting sued and avoiding police involvement. But like I said I bailed out.

EggFancyPants

Way more than 10 years ago. I worked hospo jobs in the early 2000's with security guards and they weren't allowed to touch anyone way back then either.

[deleted]

Wild that people on the internet think a shopping centre security guard on minimum wage has a duty to put their life on the line against an unhinged attacker with a weapon.

virginsimp6969

countries filled with fuckwits

crossfitvision

Those people aren’t sorry for their comments. I still had tweets popping up in my feed naming a Jewish man, many hours after Joel Cauchi named. Same with accounts blaming muslims. Some of those accounts had a lot of followers, but didn’t delete the tweet. Many people telling them to remove it, but these types are never wrong, even when they clearly are. Even channel 7 named the Jewish man FFS.

annoying97

So I'm a security guard, I can confidently say that almost any action I took in this situation would have been justified. Use a chair to break his arms, justified. But I also can't say I would actually be able to do it. I know what I can do legally, I don't know if could do it though. That being said, security doesn't have an obligation (well not at this level) to put their lives on the line. I didn't have to ask where security was, I already knew, they were doing their jobs, and now I know that some went above and beyond.

Burncity1901

Mall aka Centre security are actually directed not to go towards them and actually get people out of the building. Some do go towards and unfortunately this happens.

truckstick_burns

He didn't die because he was doing his job, he died because he was a decent human being trying to help others. I've worked in the security industry for years and these jobs have a strict do not put yourself in danger or put your hands on anybody rule. His SOP's would have told him to hide and radio the control room or ring 000, he also wouldn't be earning anymore than $27 an hour. I'd be a shame if people just expected this kind of response because he was a security guard "doing his job", if he did his job he would of found a place to hide. Again, he died because he was a decent human being trying to help people.

Lozzanger

Exactly. I can’t blame him for trying to help when people are getting badly injured and killed. We saw others try and help too RIP

Zeestars

Thank you for saying this. This man died a hero going above and beyond to try and intervene on behalf of people he didn’t even know.

[deleted]

Yeah I'd have run away tbh

ForgedTanto

First day at the centre as well. Poor bloke. Bloody hero. Hope his name is remembered.

Pepinocucumber1

Omg

_Saiki__

Holy shit. That's fucked. Poor guy.

lordofthedries

The bloke will be remembered as a true human what a legend fuck me I wish I was half the man he is.

PositionFlux

Speaking as a father, his family need to hear this.

spitey

That is unbelievably sad.

LordRekrus

That is so bloody unlucky. I know someone who works at a Westfield in a pretty dodge location and he has told some stories, but this is just so unlucky. So tough for his family as well considering he only recently moved to Australia.

miss_flower_pots

This Westfield is more high end right? He's so unlucky

LordRekrus

Yea right I guess that makes sense being best Bondi. I had no idea, never been.

deezydaisy123

Yeah, this is definitely a higher end Westfield. So unlucky :(

EggFancyPants

Yes and no. There's a lot of ferals in the area too. It's across the road from a major bus exchange which derelicts often hang out at.

miss_flower_pots

Oh! So basically the same as everyon shopping centre near a train station

LaCorazon27

A refugee as well. Came here for a safe and better life. I feel we failed him in some way and them all. Poor guy. RIP, along with all the others lost. Thinking about everyone impacted by this. It’s a moment for collective grief. The trauma will stay on sadly. We will not forget their names. Still can’t quite believe this shocking event has happened.

razr2ther0sary

Heartbreaking. He came to this country for safety then dies on his first day on the job. This world fucking sucks.

Soggy-Abalone1518

RIP Faraz Tahir

Metro_Redux

RIP Faraz, you were a hero for some of those shoppers. 💔

cewumu

From one security guard to another rest in peace Faraz Tahir. You deserved to be safe here.

ChiWod10

Touching to see a comment from the workforce. Poor guy was just doing his job. Hope you have the support you need too during these times.

cewumu

Tbh the manager of our team is already pushing for us to have tactical vests to wear on shift. This incident is obviously an extreme worst case but similar types of incidents (mentally ill/drug affected person behaving aggressively or individual brandishing a knife) are daily occurrences where I work. We joke but it’s security guards, retail staff, cleaning personnel and the like often bearing the brunt of gaps in mental health care or lax penalties for crime.

Weeedenergy

Poor guy moved to Australia from Pakistan for a better life. 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡

iamsorando

The racists who were making wild accusations ought to be bloody ashamed of themselves rn

phalewail

They won't be though.

iamsorando

Shameless. I know. Watching some of the RWNJ covering their assess in case they get sued for defamation is wild.

Fit-Tip-1212

They sure won’t - to them via some fucked up logic this exception will prove the rule

Mysterious_Eye6989

Shame is not something they're capable of.

QuickBobcat

They absolutely won’t care. They will just flip it around and say well he shouldn’t have been a security guard if he wasn’t willing to be harmed in the job or something equally stupid.

Individual_Bird2658

But the guard was willing and was harmed. I guess hence the equally stupid part.

Fade_ssud11

They will say something worse...like If he's actually good at his job he wouldn't be killed...that kinda inflammatory bullshit.

egg420

they won't be, they don't actually care about the tragedy, they just want to 'score points' against people of colour

Tokenron

They'll have moved from racism and bigotry to conspiracy theory by now. Example: the white guy from QLD was wearing a rugby jersey, but there was no blood on it. So he was a patsy for the government and the real muslim murderer has gone free. These people make me ashamed of humanity.

sejonreddit

I can't even put into words how angry this makes me.

[deleted]

He should have been safe in Australia. That’s so fucking sad.

Far-Education-549

It's wild how those supposed Aussies blamed immigrants and Muslims for yesterday's attack without any proof. All the proof points to just a Russian and a Muslim guy stepping in, and sadly, the Muslim guy lost his life while stopping the real Aussie lunatic. I'm curious about what other excuses these racists might try to come up with.

runnerz68

They just ignore the facts. It makes me so angry, but then I see all these lovely comments and support for this poor fella and I know that those are a small minority that are horrible. RIP mate.

Dawnspark

My friends dad instantly jumped to it being an attacker from Palestine to "promote terrorism" after the news had literally first broken. I know conspiracy idiots exist everywhere, but I'm from the US and I honestly didn't expect to hear the same kind of insanity I hear from my qanon family members coming from y'alls neck of the woods. Hate and bigotry is worldwide though, unfortunately. What absolute horrid idiots.

QWERTY_LIO

People want extremely simply worldviews like all Muslims and Russians are bad. The perpetrator must be X. This incident is another example of how that is simply not the case. I imagine people will come up further mental gymnastics which will lead them to believing the most extreme and fucked up things, just like the Qanon crowd. Considering what has happened and what we are learning about the perpetrator, I really fucking hope that we have provide better support to people with mental illnesses and housing. The cynical side of me thinks that there's no way in hell politicians are going to do that and that they're just going to decline further, demonising mental illness, homelessness and increase mass surveillance. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a lot of support.

nightraindream

Looks like the guy with the stanchion was Frenchman Damien Guerot.

Traditional_Sky_4703

Thank you sir, you didn’t have to, but you did…brave, selfless, your family’s superman; hero!

PurchaseImaginary518

Ahmadi (Qadyani) muslims face widespread discrimination and persecution in Pakistan. Poor fellow came here to escape all of that and got stabbed by another nutter. Such a Heartbreaking loss :(.

ibtcsexy

Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't heard of this sect (it's kinda similar to Mormons in the US having people say they aren't Christian) before and sadly, it's an issue in Malaysia and Algeria too. [US gov fact sheet](https://www.uscirf.gov/publication/ahmadiyya-persecution-factsheet) Maybe media coverage in Pakistan of his tragic death will help reduce prejudice.

PurchaseImaginary518

I doubt they would even care. Speaking as a Pakistani, hate against Ahmadi/Qadyani Muslims is so engrained in Pakistani society that they don't even properly honor Abdus Salam the first Pakistani nobel laureate who was also a Qadyani muslim.

LondonGirl4444

Faraz Tahir, we mourn your passing. Condolences to your family and friends.

LilXadi

white racists are dumbounded a muslim was a victim and not the perpatrator.

ZanyDelaney

They don't care. They fire off posts as volume for their "cause" no matter what the truth or the outcomes.

J233779

Nah they're probably saying its a psyop or some dumb shit

notawoman8

Not just a victim, but also a hero.

TranceIsLove

Absolutely shattered. May he rest in peace.

crossfitvision

Fuck everyone who were quick to publicly hang shit on the security guards yesterday. The same types of people who were convinced the perpetrator was aMuslim. The amount of people who are willing to go on the record making big statements on serious issues, without having any clue is a big worry.

[deleted]

RIP bloke

Ripley_and_Jones

Is there a GoFundMe for his family? Surely we can help in some small way.

rhibot1927

What an important question, should be much higher. Whenever I want to donate as a tribute to someone but they don’t have a gofundme or similar, I think about what they might have wanted or needed in life. For Tarez Tahir I reckon I’d donate to a refugee or migrant resettlement program. There’s one in my area that offers free swimming lessons and gym memberships. Is there a local library that does English lessons for new migrants? I don’t give to religious charities, but if you do you might look into the Muslim youth group he volunteered at. You get my idea. Also, as I typed this out I decided to donate to the swimming lesson program.

googly2225

Fantastic suggestion, I’m going to do this thank you!

pabze

I think on the 9news Instagram post about him, his cousin shared a comment with links to a GoFundMe however verify before donating as I just had a brief glance.

magkruppe

is there some sort of victim fund where the state gives them some financial assistance? i really hope so

fmfame

Both guards belong to Pakistan and sorry we don't have such estate based welfare or funds. All family friends based support only.

Rusti-dent

First day and unarmed. Couldn’t ask more of the guy. Hero.

queenroot

The amount of boomers and people with one brain cell on FB commenting about where security was during the attack is fucking disgusting. There is another security guard recovering in hospital at the moment.

packers12-17

In all seriousness we do not need security guards with guns, they are mostly there as a deterrent for shoplifters not to actually stop murderers…

Tootsie_r0lla

Guns wouldn't be needed and shouldn't be. But maybe something like a taser si they would be able to subdue someone from a distance

Derrrppppp

A baton at least to protect themselves

Alternative_Sky1380

God forbid we try to address male violence, racism and misogyny.

[deleted]

What a tragedy. First day on the job he wasn’t even ready…

EllaBellaModella

How truly awful. Knowing all he would have sadly known about violence and fear as a refuge, he chose bravery. May he rest in peace.

Cybermat4707

Remember Faraz Tahir, Jade Young, Dawn Singleton, and Ashlee Good, and the other victims. Remember them, not the person who murdered them. And do whatever you can to make a society where this never happens again.

Banjo-Oz

I always hate how mass and serial killers' names are immortalized for decades. The best justice if for their identities to be forgotten. I always made it a point not to remember the names of those Colombine scum.

Money-Implement-5914

Dude took his job seriously, and was trying to help others. Much respect.

KhanTheGray

Security guards in Australia are not armed, unless they are specialized security guards transporting money etc. For the most part security guard job is inherently dangerous, they don’t have much to defend themselves with, their role is mostly to observe and call the Police if things get too much. I did security guard jobs in Victoria, all we had in terms of legislative power was 458 crimes act, which is basically citizens arrest but no means to enforce it with no equipment other than your bare hands and hope that other person or people are not armed. It’s mostly resented by employers to have security guards go hands on anyway, so you’d just get told to call Police and follow them from distance. As a result most security guards have zero or little training about self defense etc. I wouldn’t go back to doing that job. As migrant who also worked as security to build up my resume in Australia, I feel sorry for this guy but I will acknowledge his courage, he ended up dying for people he didn’t get to know.

Banjo-Oz

Not sure if it's different now, but my dad was a guard through the 80's and 90's. He had a gun when he was a bank guard, but not when he was a construction site guard. Of course the latter was the job where he had multiple hostile incidents, never the first one. Maglite came in handy. Once forced an intruder into a portaloo and locked him in there until the cops arrived.

[deleted]

Where’s all the people blaming Muslims and arabs? Ironically it was one of them who tried to save the white people and lost his life

[deleted]

There were anti-immigration d*ckheads trying to somehow blame this incidents also on to immigration. Here is one Muslim immigrant who died protecting women and kids from a psycho. How tables have turned.

KvindeQueen

Ironic that you feel the need to use homophobic slurs in your comment calling out racism.

[deleted]

Apologies and corrected, it was not intentional

PhotographBusy6209

Using a gay slur won’t help your cause

clotpole02

RIP Faraz :(

ken_beays

Rest in peace Faraz

TranceIsLove

> Another Westfield security guard, who did not wish to be identified, told the ABC they were haunted by what had happened. > They were upset by comments shared on social media blaming security guards for not stopping the carnage. > "No one had any idea what actually happened…they (Faraz) got killed for nothing like how much? $25 or $26?…he died." “He wasn't even supposed to be there that day. "He was covering somebody else's shift." > The security guard said Faraz was killed less than a couple of hours from wrapping up his shift and going home. [Source](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-14/several-killed-in-mass-stabbing-at-westfield-bondi-junction/103705354?utm_campaign=abc_news_web&utm_content=link&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_source=abc_news_web#live-blog-post-83498) Just tragic.

Aye_don_care

I hope they find a way to make him an Australian citizen if not already.

cuddlepot

He wouldn’t have been a citizen yet, but on his way (4 year wait). Give him citizenship, a Medal of Honour and a state funeral.

Banjo-Oz

Nah, we save state funerals for pedos, rich old athletes and useless politicians.

Fluffy-duckies

Seconded

virginsimp6969

omg that would be so nice instead of doing anything meaningful we could give a dead guy citizenship after he was just killed in our country well done mate give this guy a reddit gold

notawoman8

If I was a refugee with a family, and the country of Australia felt inclined to attempt to begin to repay some of my life, top of my list would be citizenship for my family... or anything that makes it easier to obtain citizenship. So maybe that idea isn't quite as trite as it comes across?

yeah_deal_with_it

He should have been safe here. RIP Faraz.

martythemartell

Unbelievably tragic, he tried to stop the criminal too. Brave man, a real loss.

veshterka

The only thing you can do is run unless you have a firearm. It only takes a few seconds for someone armed with a knife to stab you & during the altercation with all their adrenaline rushing a lot of people don't even notice they've been stabbed & most of them die from their injuries later.

PositionFlux

The whole incident is shockingly tragic. This man needs to be nationally recognised. To give everything to be here, and then to give everything quite literally, to defend the innocent.

Fijoemin1962

Brave lad

AussieJay16

RIP Faraz 🕊️ thoughts with his family and friends

shaikh_adeel

Rest In Peace bud! It's a cruel, cruel world! I am speechless.

squat_bench_press

No doubt he prevented a few more deaths facing the attacker

Newstargirl

RIP Faraz 💞🇨🇦

Terrible-Year8399

Someone who knew him said that he lost his parents when he was young, he became the main provider for his siblings. Faraz was said to be the kind of guy who would give you the clothes off his back. Very stand up guy.

sweatyvaginalips

Hey was a refugee who was about to sponsor his family to come to Australia. Survived horrific things only to die once he found refuge. I am told by colleges he was a beautiful person who has big dreams for his life. This is devastating and utterly unfair. Life is not fair.

-Jambie-

Remember when all the racists immediately jumped on "muslims" and immigrants at the start before facts came out. Now it turns out the perp was white guy, and a hero security guard who tried to stop him and was killed is a migrant those cunts are awfully quiet. Fuckers.

RIP Faraz Tahir.

Burncity1901

And yet people say security guards don’t do anything. What’s this huh. Someone lost their life trying to get others away from the threat. As someone that worked security and also did centre security that hit me hard.

oldproudcivilisation

Poor guy and his family. RIP.

Minimum-Pangolin-487

Poor bloke, so sad to hear. First week on the job too. Are security guards completely unarmed?

Boysenberrryy

as pakistani-australian i am very saddened by his loss and can imagine his situation. But more saddened by how quick our community was to jump on 'religion of peace' comments. Dont let the minority brainwash your viewpoints on anyone and cluster them together. Every human is different.

This entire tragedy could have been averted if Australia had actual Mental Health Services that worked.

PositionFlux

I hope this man's family hear, somehow, that so many of us are in awe of this man's courage, and wish he was still a part of our community.

chubbycatchaser

Thank you for doing your utmost to protect others, Farah Tahir. To Allah they belong, and to Allah they will return. (Please note, that last phrase is more appropriate for deceased Muslims than ‘RIP’)

whiteycnbr

There needs to fedal sweeping mental health reform, just like there was gun reforms after port Arthur, in the wake of this.

AggravatingTartlet

So very tragic. To come to this country for safety, only to be met with this.

Serena-yu

His name pad says UNSW. Was he doing a university degree as well?
