About a year ago, smackos went from $10 to $16 overnight. The following week they were on 'special' for $11. This has continued between these prices since then, but a week ago, they are magically $9, no mention of being on special, just as if that is the price they've always been. If you do things subtely, surely no one will notice? (and I'll stop calling you shirley).

Less_Understanding77

This is another thing I've tended to notice too, they seem to be trying to hide it, thats why i feel they're trying to hide it for if they do eventually get looked into thoroughly they can just play the, "well actually they're the same prices they were a couple years ago," card.

Calvin1228

I noticed this as well and I'm glad its not just me Coles homebrand bacon went from $4 to $6.80 in the space of a week late last year and is now $6, and if it wasn't for fact that i keep my receipts to double check, and im glad i did

Consistent_You6151

To make us all think " what a great bargain"....specials are often done like this too! Marked up to be then marked down to what was the original price.

Frosty-Lake-1663

Woolies snags suddenly $5 for first time in many years. Mince is still like $15 a kilo when it was $10 just a few years ago though.

Soggy-Abalone1518

Probably lower weight per bag?

Person_of_interest_

schmakos are terrible treats.

TinyCucumber3080

But dogs go wacko for them

69PointstoSlytherin

Does "wacko" mean crinkle your nose in disgust and walk away? Because thats what my dogs did when I got them schmackos one time.

chase02

Yep every time there is mention of an enquiry they start miraculously dropping again. Funny that.

Real_Estimate4149

I have found much less of a price drop and much more consistent prices for longer periods of time. Man, there was like a 6-12 month where everything just kept getting more an more expensive every time you did a big shop.

Less_Understanding77

Yeah, it sure as hell was getting more expensive for a while there, but at least in the 2 woolies near me, their prices have stopped rising, and some are starting to slowly drop.

GaryTheGuineaPig

No, not really Red capsicums are: $9.99 per kg in Aldi $10.90 per kg in Coles $14.00 per kg in Woolies because they're now pricing them per item, I'm assuming so it's more difficult to compare. They cost $5.99 per kg at my local Asian market, a price which hasn't really changed for 2 years. Coles & Woolies prices are more Chaotic than the Crypto market!

Moaning-Squirtle

I've literally seen red capsicum go for $2.50/kg at times at my local Asian grocery. It's not uncommon for fresh produce to be half price or less at the Asian grocery. Sad but true.

aussie_shane

What's the go with this individual pricing of vegies lately. Obviously on some it has always been the norm, but I have noticed it happening far more often. Coles had broccoli heads at around $3 a head the other day for approx 350grams. Purchased two heads that were just slightly over at 357g. It's bullshit. Just another way they are trying to rip off the consumer

DanJDare

As much as I dislike colesworth in general I think it's simply a result of more and more people shopping online where per item is easier for everyone.

PurplePiglett

Colesworth prices for fresh food are a joke, makes you think of what exorbitant markups they have on their general goods. Bought broccoli from Spudshed (WA only chain known for low fruit/veg prices) the other day for 3 heads for $5.

Alternative-Jason-22

4.99 at the local fruit and veg shop. But hey, who wants to save money. You also can scan your sucker loyalty card to get a point

makingspringrolls

$9.90 at woolies, TAS today

Dry_Ad9371

Man they had vegetable oil for like $25 the other day... i swear it used to be like $8

porcupine162

I just watched lamb roasts jump up 25% at local Woolies. This is not across the board.

outwiththedishwater

Lamb is very seasonal. It’s always cheaper in spring and heads back up towards winter

TinyCucumber3080

Lamb wholesale prices went up again

[deleted]

Yes they have on average gone down much more. I always had an eye for the bullshit prices and never once paid them, they cycle and rip people off but if you know value you buy value

nate2eight

Bananas at $4kg at woolies, while 99c at fresh n save.

bettingsharp

I dont think its due to the investigation. Its just due to people spending less. The interest rate hikes last year are starting to have an effect now. At our company, we have had a very quiet month so far.

Less_Understanding77

Maybe, it might have just been a coincidence that it started at this same time. Hopefully it's the start of a trend

BIGREDMAXSLAPS

Yep, January was dire (and January is never really that busy), and this month has been far below average. Customers are a lot slower paying accounts, and our suppliers are getting a lot more impatient. Good times!

Previous_Wish3013

Some prices may have temporarily dropped, but they could (and probably will) go up again at any moment. I get tired of seeing signs like “Special” or “Down Down” etc where prices have been “reduced” back to more than what they were 2-6 months ago, or “reduced” back to the already over-inflated price they were a few months ago. So many times I look at some product and think aid like to buy that, but then look at the price and walk away. I simply will NOT pay some of the ridiculous prices they are asking. Has anyone noticed the prices in servos connected to Colesworth? Lollies which were $3 a packet suddenly became $6 or more. 175g chocolate bars are now $10. Ridiculous prices. How they sell any of these is beyond me.

vidman33

People still go to them. I don't understand people complaining about prices there who are on a tight budget. I filled to almost overflowing my trolley at Aldi this week $425. I hate to think how much it would've been at CW

AcademicMaybe8775

wholesale meat is still at record lows. prices should be dropping much faster than they are

Impossible-Mud-4160

This is why I buy at wholesalers, not supermarkets

Eighty_88_Eight

Such as from where?

Impossible-Mud-4160

There's a butcher near my work that sells to the public, they're fairly common. Generally in industrial areas

mulimulix

I don't get it. I went to a local butcher to buy 6 sausages and it cost double what it would've cost to buy a pack of 8 sausages from coles. Did I just go to a super pricey butcher? Was like $23/kg.

SyllabubHuman9638

A. That’s not a wholesaler B. You are getting higher quality meat and less filler from the butcher

TumblingOblivion

38 dollars for 9 tiny lamb cutlets????

Bubbly_Difference469

Just hope that colesworth are absorbing these cuts and not expecting farmers or suppliers to absorb them. Wishful thinking I reckon….

[deleted]

No I haven't noticed. I wish. Can anyone give me some examples of items that have dropped?

Less_Understanding77

I've seen dairy products like creams, cheese and yoghurt dropped a dollar in the past month, as I said nothing is dropping significantly yet, it's almost as if they're trying to drop it slowly to try hide the fact that they are dropping their prices back to relatively normal again.

outwiththedishwater

Scotch fillet at woolies went back to 33/kg from about 40 something a week or so after talk of an inquiry started. Suddenly chicken thigh fillets are “down down” or whatever now too when they were almost double the price because they’re known as the cheaper option

[deleted]

I'm not rich enough to be dining on scotch fillet. Must be just rich people foods that have come down a bit.

j0shman

I haven’t noticed any difference at my local woolies

makingspringrolls

Woolies dropped a bunch today "was $$ on 27/02". I got premium ham $31kg on Monday and it's $26 today (low price not sale) Also the Gippsland single yoghurt are down to $2.40 from like $3. They were like $2.5 a year ago but they've removed the lid, spoon and shrunk the packet. These are 2 things I noticed but there were similar tags around

[deleted]

Yes like petroleum, the low was $1.20 the high was $2 Now the low seems to be $1.60 Will prices drop to pre inflationpandemic prices? I think not. They will drop but to a higher overall lower amount. Just like petroleum.

krekenzie

The only good thing there, is that fuel efficiency for sedans has pretty much halved or more since the late 90s- even if you don't go a hybrid. For a common family-oriented car: A Ford Falcoln in the late 90s could burn through 14 or more litres per 100 when petrol was just under the dollar mark; but modern sedans can average about 6 litres.

No-Assistant-8869

I remember Pepsi Max 2L going from $2 to $3.60 overnight at both Coles and Woolies. A couple of months ago Woolies tried $4.50 on for size for a week or two and then dropped the prices back to $3.60.

neorhythmics

I remember coke 2l going from 3.60 to 4.50 and it was onsale for $2.xx the week before. Stopped buying it.

Righthookhammer47

As soon as I heard of the investigation I noticed a lot more sale items on the shelves isles of little stickers that weren’t there the weeks before obvious as fuck

kangarootimtam

Unrelated, but my local Coles just got rid of their manned deli in favour of a pre-packaged open-fridge nightmare. Wtf was the point of getting rid of plastic bags if the plastic is going to be put elsewhere??

Less_Understanding77

Yeah I hate this, they're so proud of removing plastic bags from checkouts but instead they decide they'll put twice as much plastic on their products, and fresh produce.

Andrew_Higginbottom

Sneaky fckers.

mizorex

All my fresh produce magically turns into onions or potatoes at self checkout

Less_Understanding77

That's unfortunate ;)

The_Funny_Ben

Well, that's still better than the people whose groceries just don't scan. Those poor buggers.

lumpy_triangle

That must make it so hard to shop for you. I wish there was some sort of trained person that could scan your groceries to ensure this didn't happen. But alas, some things are too good to be true.

RollaCoastinPoopah

The best part of that four corners exposé was Leah from Coles claiming that she had never heard the term ColesWorth…

panicboy333

To be honest I’ve only ever seen it on Reddit…

PortabelloMello

I was in there today and didn't see a single biscuit on sale. Absolute bullshit. Until I turned the corner and saw workers putting out the yellow tickets. Bring in Electronic Shelf Labelling FFS. The reason they don't do this is because those bright yellow labels drive sales.

VJ4rawr2

Is this the point we’re at now? Whinging about stickers?

incendiary_bandit

I figure someone is scraping their website for prices to track this stuff, I wish I had time to figure it out and such but I don't

ghostash11

Prices still going up quick. Woolies olive oil gone from $11 to $12 for the litre. Now it’s $15.

kelfromaus

I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why white sugar has increased from $1.20 a kg to $2.20 a kg.. And I'll bet that price doesn't drop.

Less_Understanding77

I reckon they'll suddenly have a special and when they pull the tag away afterwards it'll miraculously be $1.70 a kg. Still not what it used to be but still an improvement

Soggy-Abalone1518

Coles and Woolies make less than 4% net profit (total revenue less total expenses) consistently year after year. Unless they have a stake in the value add process from farm to shelf where they make extra margin, they do not make a huge profit vs revenue compared to most established large listed companies. I feel the gov inquiry is a red hearing distraction to make it seem like it is working to improve cost of living while achieving not a lot. Even if supermarket costs were 20% cheaper that would not make a material difference to household expenses. Petrol is up, although coming down, gas and electricity is through the roof, rent or interest & property taxes are climbing, all other products and services we buy are 10-25% more expensive due to higher wages and business operating costs. The $40 / week you might save if the gov reduces supermarket prices by 20% (which surely we all know will never happen) isn’t worth talking about compared to the 25-50% increase in power etc.

InvincibiIity

Get off reddit mr coles or woolies pr

rustler_incorporated

I've already figured out how to get what I need without Colesworth. I have no plans to return. The last time I visited a Woolworths I left disgusted. Not only are the price hikes insulting the fresh food area smelt bad and the freezer area had giant wads of wet paper towels which were leaking brown liquid. I refuse to be treated so poorly and taken for a sucker. YouTube, Spotify and Reddit are next on my list.

blackcat218

Nope, cause I don't shop at either of them.

mad_rooter

Cool story. Thanks for commenting

Factal_Fractal

This cunt is dreaming

Dirty_Taint_Tickler

Local Woolies had a massive price drop today, staff said it was because they change the store from a "Metro" back to a regular store

username_bon

That normally means a reduced item selection and cancelling some range lines altogether.

Dirty_Taint_Tickler

First time I've seen a bag of red Rock deli chips under $7 in the last 6 months

username_bon

I was meaning by your comment metro to value or core. The store range for a metro is different to a value or core store. So their lines and ranges are different. Prices are consistent for stores

CardiologistNo5561

Brut deodorant used to be the poor man's go for hygiene management. Not anymore. $7.50 is what a reduced now to 130gm tube retails now.

baddazoner

i don't get why people bring up deodorant it goes on sale often and it's not something you need to buy every week they currently have nivea men 100ml for $4.25 it will be a different brand on sale next week

Alternative-Jason-22

I was more concerned with their own labeled products not coming for the place of origin they are implying They should get massive fines for this

Violet_Huntress

Just saw on the news, I think it was woollies said that they were dropping prices on over 400 items until May 28th?

SunshineSomeone

I added things for a weekly shop on Woolworths Tuesday afternoon, nothing I needed was on special and the cart price was $121, on Wednesday morning, the cart price was $135 with still nothing on special.

dizkopat

Off with their heads

Used_Conflict_8697

Anyone also noticed the return of per kilo items?

Neither-Werewolf8805

So few products are half price these days

BirthdayFriendly6905

Yep mince went from $18 to $11 real quickly

-DethLok-

I read an article today how Woollies is dropping the prices of 600 goods, until May 28th. Some of those drops are significant, some not so much. So, yes!

Less_Understanding77

Haha I noticed this too 4 or 5 hours after I made this post I started seeing articles and stories about it, what a coincidence

PorridgeButterwort

The cheap shit bread used to be 90c... now it's almost $2..  fuck colesworth

rsam487

Yep. Woollies the same too. Dynamic pricing has been here for years.

Blitzer046

I just paid twenty five fucking dollars for a litre of Moro olive oil, so NO
