You still need a drag for many situations. Bass fishing in ultra clear water is one of them. You need to use fluoro or mono in that situation, and lower lb test. If u have no drag, the big one will break off. Also for musky and pike fishing it's important as well.

This guy fishes! 💪

Lol I do. Occasionally I catch too 😂

Well there's such a thing as pulling the hooks out. You assume that everyone just uses braid. For example, I have about twenty setups. I have braid on exactly one.

thejeffroc

Same. Almost all of mine have fluoro or copolymer. One has mono. My jig rod and my frog rods have braid. My inshore has braid and that's it. I tried braid for a while and my hookups and landings drastically increased switching back to something with some stretch.

Turkeeee

There won't be a lot of bass left if everyone is ripping their faces off. Also, horsing them into the boat in 4 seconds isn't as fun.

As many have said, you still need drag in most situations. That being said, the KastKing Deadbolt is exactly what you described. One day I do want to try frogging with one, but that is about the only use I can come up with for it.

I would have lost a lot more fish without a drag system. Sometimes you barely have them hooked and if you put too much tension on the line they'll spit the lure.

Have you ever fished up north? clear water? If I threw braid on everything I bet I’d catch 40% less fish. In NE Washington I only carry 2-3 bait casters when I fish. The rest is all spinning finesse rigs. I’d hate my life if I did not have drag. I’m generally fishing mono or floro 6-10 lb test. So yea drag systems are needed. * on bigger fish I turn off the anti reverse and manually reverse reel line out as needed. A lot of spinning drags aren’t great on fish over 5 lbs. and get a little jerky. Edit: Spelling

I completely understand what and why you are saying it. Marketing is amazing

Never have to learn the FG knot if you never use a leader!

onceuponatime28

Not everyone is using neon rope because it makes their combo look cool, I don’t use braid at all, prefer increasing my chances with flouro since it’s harder for the fish to see, leader isn’t good enough for me. a drag is a must in any situation, think about it, the break happens at the weakest point, if your using strong braid then it’s the fishes soft tissue that will break first, so you need drag to prevent this.

Dragless reels do exist. Mostly in the form of center pin and fly reels. These reels also don't have anti reverse which means destroying your hand since it needs to act as the Drag (ask me how I know). You will always need a Drag system when fighting fish. Sure, you have 50lb braid; but at the knot, depending on which knot you use, it could drop its strength down to 10lbs. The rod is also a big consideration as most bass rods can't handle being under load for long like a no Drag, anti reverse reel with 50lbs test line would put it under (this is another big reason most people who use braid are also using mono/floro leaders). Then, there's any other terminal tackle involved. Hooks would bend or break, hard baits might get pulled apart, and if you snag a log and the boat keeps drifting you could break the rod pretty easily in that situation. I'll keep my Drag thanks.
