You said you are using a size 4 EWG hook. For bass you should be using a 4/0 EWG hook. Size 4/0 is much larger than size 4.

This ☝🏽

paeenmaster

100% this hook needs to be larger much larger

bandityo

Please don’t hold the fish like that. Support the body to avoid damaging jaw

buffalucci

Maybe the fish know how you hold them when you catch them and are avoiding you.

Far-Campaign-3790

Are you just skin hooking the point of the hook? Either way you want a wider gap hook, fish will bite that but on a hook that small its tough to penetrate the jaws. you are trying to hook set against the bait… when your pulling on the set I’d guess not enough space between hook, bait and fishes mouth for the hook to penetrate enough to push the barb in. You said is 4 EWG? to me it looks like size 4 standard bait hook to me.

Thanks for the insight! Second picture is an example of what it looks like after I lost a fish, I didn’t skin hook when rigging, just kept it flush. It’s hard to tell from the photo but it’s EWG.

Far-Campaign-3790

Any time brother! Other than the hook I’d say maybe feel the weight a little more before swinging on em’. Too stiff a rod could cause missed hook sets too. Less likely. Sharp hooks! I bought a cheap mini file for that. Rapaula uses to make one that I wear on my lanyard with my clippers and other tools.

ImpressiveReward572

Way bigger hook

2PChentAznDood

Please research how to hold a fish after catch

SideFlaky6112

Hold the fish right. They’re scared to bite your bait and end up held like that

Break ya neck boy

Your not getting a good hook in them with a noodly pan fish rod. Is that a cheb rig? Don't see that often in the states. Also the way you're holding that fish is cringe.

bass_fishing_japan

wider gap or wait few sec before set the hook, so you’re sure that the lure is deeper in bass mouth. also try to control bass when they jump, usually it’s a good trick to always keep tension and keep rod low so fish doesn’t have much freedom to jump out of the water and shake away your hook.

RatherBeFeeshing

Too much plastic getting bunched up preventing any of the hook point getting through to sink into the fish. Use smaller plastics on that hook or get bigger hooks for that plastic. Completely threading it on so the whole hook point is exposed and not buried is an option, but if it needs to be weedless, I’d get bigger hooks

Vast_Lawyer3700

Use a keitech 3.8 fat impact with 3/0 owner flashy swimmer hook. 4 inch keitech I use a 4/0 sized hook beast hook.

FaithlessnessDry1851

Just give her the damn turbo beans when you set the hook brother let her eat a bit more too

Educational-Edge6571

It literally could be as simple as the bass just not being aggressive and eating well that day. I was all pissed off yesterday after I lost a 4-5lber at the bank and was trying to figure out what I did wrong and looking back on the footage the bass only had 1 of the tail hooks on my jerkbait, on a warmer day she inhales it and I would have a new PB for this year, oh well.

Dadae2128

Check your barbs on the hook..you might need new ones..
