Don't even get me started. Literally has no business fishing, clearly doesn't understand fish have feelings too. How would you like it if I put your head in my mouth and drug you around?
The endless possibilities of answers to your question, genuinely made my brain glitch 🤣.
I suspect this is where the real jokes start, well played sir 🫡.
I’m no expert but that seems like a harmless water snake, they like frogs and fish. This one seems to have some ambition tho, as a snake owner myself, I’m not sure that snake will be able to get that bass down, and may end up dead because of it. Hope the snek makes it’s out alive. On a side note, looks like your spot has some nice bass in it!
My problem with water snakes is they're dickheads that don't respect personal space. They're just so damned cavalier about screwing around with my fish basket, swimming around the shore right in front of me, they'll get pretty close to you, and generally don't give a single fuck. More than a few times I've had to give one a good crack upside the head with a stick to send them on their way because they're nothing if not persistent about being a nuisance.
This is a common water snake. You can check out r/whatisthissnake and there are people a lot more knowledgeable than me to confirm, but I am very confident. They’re harmless to humans
I crossposted your video to r/snakeidentification
“Diamond-backed Watersnakes Nerodia rhombifer are medium to large (~110cm, record 175.3 cm) natricine snakes with heavily keeled scales often found in and around water. Heavily aquatic compared to other watersnakes, they are commonly encountered fish and amphibian eating snakes across much of Central North America south through Guatemala and Belize.
Nerodia watersnakes may puff up or flatten out defensively and bite. They secrete a foul smelling substance from the cloaca called musk and can deliver a weak anticoagulant venom used in prey handling from the back of the mouth, but are not considered medically significant to humans - bites just need soap and water.
Found throughout central North America, it is sometimes confused with other watersnakes or its sister species the Brown Watersnake Nerodia taxispilota. N. rhombifer has a reticular, net like pattern resembling a chain link fence and adults often have a orange, vibrant eye. Geographic range helps determine species, but N. erythrogaster has is its namesake plain belly that varies across the range from yellow to orange. Banded Watersnakes N. fasciata have even, connecting bands across the top of the snake all the way down the body. In Common Watersnakes N. sipedon, bands typically break up or become mismatched after the first third of the body as in N. erythrogaster, but has a patterned belly. N. rhombifer and N. taxispilota can look incredibly similar near where their ranges meet, in which case geographic location can be used to determine species.

That’s awesome! Thats pretty rare to catch on video, I appreciate you not wanting to share hunting grounds with a danger noodle, but I love snakes and thanks for posting this👍🏻
Water snakes don’t engage in caudal luring (that’s what you’re describing), but some species (such as juvenile copperheads and cottonmouths with green tail tips) use their tail for this purpose.
To be honest, you could’ve stuck around without any problem. I fish in the presence of water snakes on a pretty regular basis…they’re basically never hostile in my experience. Sometimes they actually come swimming up to the boat really quickly. I think they see it as a large piece of moving debris or something like that…something to hitch a ride on. Then once they sense the heat signature of a large, stick wielding ape, they tend to hit the road pretty quickly
Looks like normal water snake behavior. I had some neighbors that ate a bass once and tossed the head into the water. A water snake swam to it and grabbed the head in its mouth just like in this video. Of course, I wanted to catch him, so I gave chase and he let go of the head to nip at me. I caught him, showed him off, and let him go back to his fish head.

I’d have to go to therapy after watching that.
Nature is beautiful and I would watch, but I’d also have nightmares. Snakes are the one animal I just don’t do well with. And mosquitos, f mosquitos.
You’re leaving due to a water snake? I ain’t leaving even from a cottonmouth sir, I have full blown conversations with snakes sometimes when the fish aren’t biting
My first time fishing in Florida put a bass on a stringer and when I pulled it up a very large cottonmouth was attached I also almost lipped a mudfish with a mouth full if teeth
Trout fisherman here (some algorithm thought I’d like this post), do bass often live in such algae-fied water? I know that means it’s too warm for trout
It’s a nice catch, but the way the fish is being handled here is absolutely fucking shocking.
Exactly, we literally just had a post on it. And this fucking cowboy is just dragging it through the dirt. Pfffft.

I'll see you in the rest of the comment section
Well you certainly wouldn’t have to unhinge jaw to fit mine in your mouth
Lol comment of the day
All this fishing talk is turning me on…
Which head?
Probably doesn’t even have a license.
When will they learn? The way this fish is being handled there is a high probability it won't survive.
Didn't even get his hands wet first.
If he had hands, I guess they would be his mouth also? Which is wet?? My best defence for the Snek, he did retain me as his attorney.
Should’ve used a smaller worm as a lure.
Wonder if he got it on a top water or a senko
A rattle trap 😂
10/10
Omg
Wonder if it’s his PB?
He’s dragging it up to ask OP to guess the weight.

Homie’s shaped like a senko 💀
I'd fish. The snake gonna be busy for a minute.
That snake gets that fish down and homie isn’t gonna move for a week lol

Looks like a big harmless water snake to me, but I get being nervous around snakes. What a nice catch though lol
Ya water snake. Bass was probably striking him and snake said, “oh ya?”
Why would you leave, there's clearly some big fish in there!
I’ll do anything except being around big snakes😂
I mean the snake was distracted and then full. Seems safe enough to me. Now you risk going to an area where the snakes haven’t eaten yet
Steal the bass from it

That's a diamond backed watersnake, Nerodia rhombifer, harmless. The pattern of the water snake is more rectangular than a water moccasin/cottonmouth.
Aren’t most cotton mouths a lot darker? Or are the copperheads a different snake?
Yea the older they get and yes a copperhead is a completely different pit viper.
On first glance I thought it was one of those pesky and harmless Gaboon Vipers.

I figure a diamondback water snake or a cottonmouth not sure my ass ain’t staying around to find out
That is absolutely not a cottonmouth. Where are you? It looks like a Northern Water Snake.
Texas

This is a diamondback watersnake, not common.
Ah shoot, back to studying on that other sub for me. 50% accurate, sounds like my high school grades
One of the most common snakes according to Wikipedia.
Same here. Love snakes, but not confident enough to identify most of them.
*had some nice bass

Im out
Yeah don’t think I’m coming back here for a while
Don’t ever move to Florida.
Koth fan too, my man
That snake catches bigger bass than I do.
Somebody should inform this chode how to properly handle a bass.
Very cool to see irl and I gotta say, that's a nice sized catch! You go, little snake guy!
Go check for that fishing license
Usually I am dreaming of being in a warm climate fishing for some buckets….but this makes me think Canada isn’t so bad.
This is a harmless Diamondback Watersnake. Eats fish (obviously).
Was it able to actually eat that bass? I know their mouths stretch but that looked like a giant meal.
I walked over a few minutes later and he had spit it out but still guarding it
Why leave? Everyone catches fishes there!
Night crawlers are quietly taking notes.
Diamondback water snake for anyone interested.
That would have made my day. I would have put my rod down to watch.
Wow thats a big boy
That is one ambitious snake
Water snake 100%
Now you got a 2 course meal!
Why would you leave?
r/natureismetal
You know you’ve had a bad fishing year when you get jealous of what a fucking snake has caught.. 😂
How did you type this post with no arms?
It’s for his girlfriend. I caught you a delicious bass
That’s awesome! Thats pretty rare to catch on video, I appreciate you not wanting to share hunting grounds with a danger noodle, but I love snakes and thanks for posting this👍🏻
Does this hurt the bass?
No. They are just playing “got your nose” and the snake is winning.
Is the fish gonna be okay?
Well he ain't gonna bite you for at least another 5min
“Damnnnnnn nature you scary” Cleveland Brown
I demand to see its license! *dials up DNR*
Everything reminds me of her...
That’s one reason you can carry while fishing in Florida !
the snakes mouth is full. I'd just grab him and chuck his ass somewhere else, lol.
A snake lure would work in there for sure.
The other day I was reeling in my senko on top of the water and it got blown up on, I’ll have to try a snake lure
Should got the 2 for 1
Dragging it is not good for the fish.
Thats crazy!! What kind of snake is it? And is it venomous?
Diamondback Watersnake, Nerodia rhombifier. and it's non-venomous.
Guess the weight
Fuck no
Rip to the largie
If my Dad had seen that he would never go near the water again (He served in the U.S. Navy) and he would give me he** every time I did.
If you just grabbed the fish it's a legal catch right?
Catch & release?
why? hes already full doubt he has room left for you
snake better have his fishing license
Bit off more than he could chew.
I mean I'd stay. If some ass hole who doesn't even have arms is catching fish the bite has to be really good.
Florida or Texas?
I'd be so happy to see this. Nature is fucking amazing.
By the time that snake finishes eating it won't have time to mess with you
Damn Live scope is even helping Snakes
This is the craziest shit ever
The snake catches, bigger bass than I do. I wonder what lure he’s using
Thank god he didn’t incorrectly handle his PB by the jaw! That will NOT be tolerated on this site!!!!!
Diamond back watersnake completely harmless
Shouldn’t be posting that here. Game warden will write him a ticket for fishing without a license.
Why? He seems pretty occupied.... lol. Jk.
“Psssst…. I don’t mean to bother you, but What’d you throw?”
Yea fuck that
No way he’s getting that in right?
I had one in my minnow trap once, bugger ate all my minnows.
Yeah he looks full bro you're prolly good
I wonder if the snake wiggled its tail a bit to bait in the bass and then striked it
Water snakes don’t engage in caudal luring (that’s what you’re describing), but some species (such as juvenile copperheads and cottonmouths with green tail tips) use their tail for this purpose.
Was he/she able to swallow that big ass fish?!
No way that fish gets swallowed?
Snake good on food for the next 6 months god damn
Yeah, if you can't beat that, then he wins. Just come back tomorrow, because snek won today
"Bro you stole my kill!"
I'm from a part of the world where my bass do not get eaten by snakes. What type of snake is this?
Geezus. That's a water snake? Wonder if it swallowed that? Is that all you captured? That'd be some rare footage.
Jealous of the damn snake 😒
I don't know. Snake and a fish in hand and all.
To be honest, you could’ve stuck around without any problem. I fish in the presence of water snakes on a pretty regular basis…they’re basically never hostile in my experience. Hate it when someone snakes your spot
Good call
It’s the snake’s spot now.
Why leave? That snake is definitely busy with his business and definitely will be too full to bother you lol

Use two hands!
The definitive optimist! Thanks 👍
Bro was hungry
Why? Snakes aren't after people...
does anyone else just see them making out
WTF 👀
Did you take the fish
r/findthesniper
I thought the snake was in the Bass’s mouth. 😂
Me who would eat the snake
That snake will die
Surf and turf
What a snake… wait
Subhanallah All about the moment
Why he’s full now

You could catch it and bbq both of them?
You know I saw that happen once to a catfish. I still regret not saving it. Terrible way to go.
CNN--- Brave snake saves dish from drowning... full story on the hour!
Don’t be silly. That snake has already found dinner so it won’t be thinking of nibbling on you. You’re safe
Nerodia rhombifer
Probably caught it on beds absolutely disgusting behavior
*pop, pop*
Eat ‘‘em both
Ohh.. yeah fuck that. I wouldn't have stu k around to record it
Ambitious little guy
For a few seconds, I thought the fish had the snake.
He's trying to save the fish from drowning he's performing moving cpr
You didn’t film the rest of that? I wanted to see that, didn’t look possible.
Thought the fish had the snake for a sec!
Jesus
I didn’t know who was winning at first
What kind of snake is that
A harmless diamondback watersnake.
HOLY MOLY!!!😳😬🫡
Wait until the snake swallows it then harvest the snake. Double meal.
Damn nature! You scary
It just proves everyone needs a little head.
Could you ask him nicely to not lay his fish on the ground? Thanks.
Dude, that’s no fekin way to do catch and release!!!
Even this fucker can catch bigger fish than me..
I don't think that snake will be able to get that down....
I’d have to go to therapy after watching that. Nature is beautiful and I would watch, but I’d also have nightmares. Snakes are the one animal I just don’t do well with. And mosquitos, f mosquitos.
It’s a no from me, Dawg.
r/natureismetal !!!
That sucks he was like a 3.5 lbs
At least you know there’s bass there
You’re leaving due to a water snake? I ain’t leaving even from a cottonmouth sir, I have full blown conversations with snakes sometimes when the fish aren’t biting
What kind of worm are you fishing with ?
I think I would have stayed. That’s gonna be one fat and happy snake lol.
Pretty impressive. Can you imagine being a head and a tail taking some fucker twice your size. Idk man, pretty dope
My first time fishing in Florida put a bass on a stringer and when I pulled it up a very large cottonmouth was attached I also almost lipped a mudfish with a mouth full if teeth
I’m sure this is a stupid question, does venom affect fish? I know it’s necrotic but would it only affect the area bitten or the whole fish?
💨🔫💨🔫
Leave!? I'd cast immediately!! They're definitely biting!!
Trout fisherman here (some algorithm thought I’d like this post), do bass often live in such algae-fied water? I know that means it’s too warm for trout
U should have busted that head for him
Why? Seems like the fishing is pretty good
Fish looks dead already but this is crazy
Does this hurt the fish?
I'm not letting a snake catch more fish than me.
