I mean you can argue without BTAS none of these exist....

Familiar_Car7802

So true. No argument here

BroadReverse

Im sure questions like these imply they would still exist lol

BeenHereFor

Yeah but he’s not saying “if you pick the other ones you’re getting scammed since they wouldn’t exist without BTAS” he’s saying “BTAS is so foundational and iconic that it is a major influence in all of the others. For that reason, I’m choosing it.”

-H_-

fr they're theoretical

DarthSpiderDad

Right? Could argue and be wrong you mean!

gamecatz

And BTAS one wouldn’t exist without Michael Keaton’s Batman

PixelBits89

And Michael Keaton’s wouldn’t exist without Adam West (as they wanted the opposite of that for the new movie)

OkSwitch2238

If we really wanna get meta, we wouldn't have any of this without Superman because Bob Kane was asked to create a non powered pulp inspired hero in the image of Superman. Further, in possibly the greatest and most tragic of Easter eggs, Bruce's tragic back story was pulled from the real life of one of Superman's co-creators. His father was gunned down in the street in front of him as a child. I wanna say it was after a movie as well. You would have to Google to see if it Jerry or Joe. That blew my mind. And then to go on and create not just the most iconic and inspiring super hero, but an entire genre of fiction across multiple mediums is quite the feat and a true testament to the power of the human spirit in the face of tragedy and adversity. Bless Joe, Jerry, Bob and Bill.

unshavedmouse

Look, it's all due to the Scarlet Pimpernel, that's why we're here

Nonadventures

And Holmes

SMSV21

I heard that's why Superman is bulletproof

XxvWarchildvxX

Yeah but Keaton isn't up for debate

[deleted]

BTAS

ScrotalAgony

It's what gave us the most iconic voices we'll probably ever have for Batman and Joker. It holds up phenomenally well visually for its age. Iconic opening. Had a wonderful movie in Mask of the Phantasm. We got stuff like the Justice League cartoon and Batman Beyond afterward. It's gotta be the animated series for sure.

Preeng

Gave us Harley Quinn and gave Mr. Freeze a backstory instead of having him be a generic bad guy.

Tagyru

Didn't more villains get the same treatment is Mr Freeze in the show? I like Clayface's story. But I don't know if it was that different from the comic.

agostinellips

They took inspiration from different stories of different characters to make a new cohesive original tale, which is amazing. Two face's and the riddler's origins are amazing too.

Tagyru

I had no idea. This is cool :) I don't remember the Riddler's origin in the show but I love what they did for Two Face. I don't know why but I remember these episodes so well.

agostinellips

What is great about TAS Riddler is his characterization. Before this series, the riddler was more of a flamboyant laughing guy. Creators thought he was too similar to the joker, so they made him more of a genius analytical mastermind. After that, a lot of depictions of the character took inspiration from TAS.

Tagyru

I had no idea this is where him being a genius came from. But it makes sense. My only exposure to him prior to the show was the Adam West TV show and everything was more goofy :D (but in a good way)

ZetaRESP

Because one played the detective angle, which TAS made superb, to the point I'm sure TAS Batman is the true World's Greatest Detective. The other one was an origin story of a man falling to darkness and was very well-made.

ZetaRESP

It was, at least with the actor angle. Riddler and Two-Face were also made differently

Nonadventures

TAS did a wonderful job of existing in no specific era, so it fits whenever you want it to be.

jimababwe

Without tas, there’s no Conroy, Mark Joker, Harley Quinn. That makes up a lot of arkaham games. I wouldn’t miss Pattinson or even Bale’s Batman. But the Timmverse… that would be a loss.

[deleted]

I’d miss Pattinson’s Batman, but not Bale’s. Putting the animated series up there though is almost unfair though, it’s a masterpiece.

jimababwe

Pattinson might be going somewhere, but he’s not taking the spot of TAS based on one film.

[deleted]

You’re 100% correct. I meant more that “I’d miss Battinson, but he can go” and “putting BTAS is almost unfair, because it’s the only choice out of the four”

jimababwe

But to be honest: you’d put Pattinson above the Dark Knight? It didn’t win me over like it did you. But with time and a good sequel it could get there.

Crunchy_Biscuit

I like how it focused on Batman as a detective and simpler crime fighter and not some high tech dude

Valuable-Ad-8652

yeah, he’s much more down to earth and realistic, which gives it a lot more appeal.

jimababwe

Very true. Pattinson’s Batman was the first to really work with the police on the screen.

ThatguyfromEDC

Uh… didn’t Gordon let Bale cut a brick out of a wall?

[deleted]

I would, mostly because Battinson deals with more relatable and human struggles, and his film was less focused on gadgets and gimmicks. I know there’s more to the Dark knight trilogy than this, but subsequent rewatches haven’t held up well imo and the best part of the trilogy is still Ledger’s joker.

jimababwe

It always appealed to me the way that they created bale Batman- the origins of the suit- having Lucius fox, and the realism that came with it. Creating the gear in a way that kept the trail hidden. Dkr kind of lessened that but they were making up for the loss of ledger.

LeonTheHunkyTwunk

I like Patterson's Batman because he doesn't cause anyone's death, and I think he has a much more compelling character arc than the arcs Bale gets in the Nolan trilogy. In the Nolan movies his arc is too become Batman in Batman begins, obviously. He also lets a guy die no problem, a guy who he chose to save earlier in the movie as well. I guess you could argue his arc is "killing is bad for sure but aye, I ain't gotta stop people from dying. Loophole baby!" Idk just not a fan of Batman undermining one of his core character traits in the very first movie no less. In the dark knight, his arc is "let's lie to the people of Gotham about the crimes of a homicidal maniac, that way I can retire and he can be a symbol of hope or whatever." He also kills Harvey, like, pretty directly to my recollection. He tackled him off a place of high elevation, so unless you wanna blame gravity instead... Kinda feels like Batman did a murder. A justified one given the situation, just doesn't feel in character for Batman. Let's be honest here, we all love this movie cause of Heath Ledger's Joker. Honestly, I don't feel like I need to say anything at all about the third movie, but I will say his only character arc is "I'm retiring again, for real this time guys leave me alone." Pattinson's Batman doesn't kill any people, not even one. He also has this phenomenal arc about going from vengeance to a symbol of hope, a thing Christian Bale tried to create by lying about a dead serial killer before retreating to his manor to sulk. He realizes using his power to inspire fear causes a negative feedback loop, it inspires and escalates the type of violence he was trying to suppress. He's unintentionally and inadvertently complicit in the Riddler's decision to mask himself up, and become his own brand of vengeance. Upon seeing this he not only stops the threat, he saves everyone from the aftermath and stays behind to pull survivors from the rubble. He won't be a symbol of vengeance any longer. Now that's a goddamn character arc

FunArtichoke6167

And it’s not even close.

Lebowski304

UkuleleAversion

Are we stupid?

Zrttr

Pitting anything ever against BTAS is objectively unfair.

Sea_Temperature_1976

BTAS

simonisok

BTAS (the most obvious answer for good reason imo)

chrysantheknight

BTAS. It's the reason why the other three exist in the first place.

korman1

It has to be btas. But really why make me choose

TheCatOfWonderland

People really gotta stop asking these questions and then including BTAS as an option. Respectfully, I’m not sure what else do you expect? Of course 95% of the batman fandom will pick it. Instead I recommend maybe putting someone like Michael Keaton, The Batman (2004), Adam West Batman, etc, THEN it’s more of a competition. It’s the equivalent to asking spider man fans if they had to pick between Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield or Tom Holland. Most of them will obviously say Tobey.

ArvindS0508

At the very least don't need to include BTAS and Arkham in the same list. Arkham basically directly takes inspiration on multiple things from BTAS, it's like asking if you'd rather have Batman Begins or the Dark Knight, either you're taking one without the context of the other (so it's worse) or one just straight doesn't exist without the other, depending on interpretation.

Ok-Agent-9200

BTAS Batman.

streamjam

Btas. The perfect show.

UnknownEntity347

BTAS

BatmanofSteeI

BTAS With the possible exception of the Nolanverse you could make a solid argument that we would have gotten something very similar the other Batmen eventually (the Arkhamverse Batman is basically just the Animated Series with a harder edge to him, and I’m sure we would have gotten something similar to it eventually given the success of the Animated Series)

Far-Gene-386

Btas

notlordly

Arkham. I’m not as big a fan of the animated series as everyone else is, and Arkham really is the definitive Batman to me.

Snakes-are-awesome67

I like BTAS but my favorite version of Batman voiced by Kevin Conroy is Arkham Batman

I have to choose the animated series, but I really don't want to say goodbye to Battinson...

BTAS. Because with that as a blueprint eventually we would have gotten at least one other good adaptation

Efficient-Corner-499

It's Conroy. BTAS for sure.

NeoNeoNeo64

I would take Kevin Conroy’s Batman over every other Batman

[deleted]

There are two Conroy in there, and you have to pick one.

NeoNeoNeo64

DCAU

revanite3956

BTAS. Zero hesitation.

BooDangItMan

Batman: The Animated Series ofc

cyanCrusader

It has tot be BTAS. Arkham is not only obviously inspired by but directly apes off BTAS. Without it, there's no Arkham series. The Nolan Trilogy only pulls sparingly from BTAS, with it being more inspired by Batman Year One, Long Halloween, and other late 80s comics. So maybe they'd be fine. But The Batman was directly inspired by Darwyn Cooke's work, who was most famous for his BTAS work and thereafter inspired stories. They pull heavily from his book "Ego" which was part of that wake, and other elements were clearly taken and inspired by BTAS. Without it, there's just no The Batman. So yeah, gotta be BTAS

TheHexadex

Btas for sure because it will always inspire the rest to come : D

KristophGavin

Without BTAS we wouldn't have STAS, The Batman, Teen Titans, or Justice League. An entire generation of DC fans is lost in an instant.

[deleted]

BTAS ![gif](giphy|t89J0IcSiIEKY)

Flimsy-Discount2885

Keep BTAS. It's the only adaptation that is 100% good for children and adults alike.

1tKywani

Animated Series, we wouldn’t have had Arkham Batman without it

baneoftheghost

Well obv it's BTAS but without that in the question and just viewing the other 3 I'd go with Arkham to stay

UrFriendlyBadGuy

Kevin Conroy’s Batman, from the animated series will always be my Batman.

BTAS

Anthonyhasgame

Bruce Timm’s Batman The Animated Series is, by a large margin, the most fully realized and fleshed out Batman. To the point where this question is so tilted in its favor that it’s not even fair. The reason is because that series did such a perfect job of taking everything Batman was at the time, cementing it, and then elevating it. It’s the bookmark of the character, and the current touch stone for what makes Batman- Batman.

ShutupNobodyCarez

Batman: The Animated Series.

TDKT I’ve always loved Batman and maybe I’ve always had bad tastes cause Batman & Robin was my favorite movie as a kid. But TDKT really changed comic book movies. And for me had a lot of what I like and respect in Batman.

DangerousFish7301

Much-Past8705

BTAS,

_thegongoozler123_

Btas

Comicfan1243

BTAS because it's the most iconic and if we don't pick it we won't have harley quinn or the best clayface ever and that would mean Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill would have never been playing batman and joker

MagictheCollecting

All of you absolute scholars and gentlemen answering correctly bring a tear to my eye. BTAS is the best Batman we’ve ever had, maybe the best we’ll ever have.

DoitsugoGoji

This isn't even really a choice to think about ,it's Batman TAS.

HumanOverseer

this is such a dumb post lmfao, BTAS is the reason the rest exist.

Batman the Animated Series. Not only is it the best Batman series, it’s a cornerstone. Without it, we wouldn’t have Superman The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, New Adventures of Batman, Static Shock, The Justice League, The Justice League Unlimited and others that were obviously inspired/took inspiration from this show’s success

Anyone that chooses anything other than BTAS should be banned tbh.

ImurderREALITY

So, just like all the other times this has been posted, what’s the point of even asking?

Shadecujo

TDK

Fout99

Arkham Batman is really the best of them all and added a whole new layer to the character, but BTAS is too iconic to leave behind. I'll have to go with BTAS. Sorry Arkham Batman.

Large-Wheel-4181

Sorry Robert but there’s too much legacy with the others to ignore

No-Impression-1462

Anyone who doesn’t say BTAS is wrong. You don’t even get Arkham Batman without him.

Orion-Pax_34

The question wasn’t who came first or who originated this caricature of Batman, it was who would you keep/who do you like better. That being said, I’m keeping BTAS because it perfectly encapsulates everything the average fan needs to know about Batman

xProperlyBakedx

Never say *or* when the universe says *and*.

Left_Fact9033

huh?

xProperlyBakedx

It's just a saying I heard recently. It basically means don't make yourself choose one thing over another when both are available. But obviously the right answer here is BTAS

why does man have bat ears?

ArtichokeFew7663

I would keep Arkham Batman. I never seen TAS, the other 2 are great movies, but Arkham was my introduction to Batman and I love the series

coreytiger

This is a joke, right? There’s a picture of the closest thing to Batman off the page, and three wishing they were half of what that Batman is.

RedX536

Arkham

EccentricAcademic

Conroy forever, Timmverse specifically

Friday_298

Btas no brainer

dying_at55

Keep the game…. the others exist and in many ways tell variations of the stories already in the comics.. the games are interactive… that will always be a big advantage no BTAS, well theres been other shows. eliminate dark knight and The Batman.. you still have Begins and a hist of other projects

Forward-Ad7518

Other than Super Friends and ofc Adam West, BTAS came before all the other shows we know today in the last 25 years. Without BTAS and its mega success, the demand for more and the confidence to green light more Batman media from higher ups, who knows how it affects the trajectory on Batman TV shows post Adam West. Who’s to say we get The Batman 2004 without BTAS and Beyond as well.

androidguy50

TDK ALL THE WAY!!!!!

Familiar_Car7802

The Batman

Available-Affect-241

Arkham Batman. As far as I'm concerned the only one I for sure want gone is Reeves Batman.

Bogusky

The Dark Knight trilogy. It's the most rewatchable of everything here. Edit: Since some explanation of my logic seems to be desired, *BTAS* is probably the most significant and important to the character, but that wasn't the question. Furthermore, there's a lot of so-so episodes, and the show is showing its age. The video game still looks good and is incredible, but I think it magnifies the fact that AAA gaming has taken a massive step back in the past decade. Studios are continuously finding ways to do less with more. But over time, I believe it'll age worse than anything because that's just how gaming is. *The Batman* is a 7 out 10 movie at best, and its imitation of TDK trilogy is obvious. I look forward to the sequel, but if it turns out bad, it'll be remembered as *The Amazing Spider-Man* of the Batman franchise - another reboot with some interesting decisions but not much new to say. *The Dark Knight* trilogy is the most significant trilogy since *Star Wars,* and changed the course of cinema ever since. Were creative liberties taken that makes it less true to the source material than something like *BTAS*? Of course, but that's part of the tradeoff when you're doing films instead of a TV series. It indisputably holds up and continues to rightly be lauded by general audiences everywhere. Even its so-called weakest installment, *Rises,* out-reviewed every other Bat flick ever made.

strypesjackson

Lol

Kpengie

Personally I’ve rewatched Begins once, and have never once felt an urge to rewatch the other two, whereas I’ve watched The Batman 5 times, replayed the Arkham games a bunch, and watched BTAS countless times.

Kpengie

BTAS, and it isn’t even remotely close or a difficult choice. I love The Batman and I love Asylum, City, and Origins (mixed on Knight), but BTAS is both far more important to Batman’s history and IMO way better than the others overall.

DryWay4003

btas
