I was there. I’m really glad I was looking at my phone and not at the train coming in. So sad to read it was a youth. I was waiting for my son and I’m glad he hadn’t arrived so I could shield him from the chaos. So many other kids were exposed and looked out of curiosity. Be kind to your minds people.
Take care of yourself if you witnessed that. Delayed shock can happen days or weeks later. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it.
Also, play Tetris as much as possible for the next week. I'm serious.
https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2017-03-28-tetris-used-prevent-post-traumatic-stress-symptoms
I've seen worse. Kids on the platform I'd be worried about, they'll do a whole school assembly in the coming days but the services are really lacking at BSHS counselling-wise.
Take it from someone who went through shit during my teens and I would regularly say something similar, I've seen worse, I've been through worse etc. It eventually catches up to you, I was diagnosed with severe PTSD at 33 and I wish I did something about 10/20 years ago
In the school's defence, it's hardly their job to offer counselling/psychological support services to their students. It's a school, not a health service.
The guidance officer basically fulfils the role of a social worker/case manager for the most at-risk kids from a socio-cultural prescriptive (homeless kids, refugee kids, etc.) within a school. It is not within their role to, nor are they adequately trained or qualified to, provide acute psychological intervention to anyone, particularly following such a traumatic event.
The onus falls on these kids' parents to... Idk, parent?
Maybe get to know your own children and if your child requires additional support, organise your own?
Your child's health care needs are not the local public high school's responsibility. They're yours.
Counsellors and social workers are not automatically qualified to provide acute psychological intervention either. Counsellors, in particular, do not even require AHPRA registration because they are not registered health professionals. They're a support service, but trauma counselling is a highly-specialised field of psychology/counselling and your average guidance officer, especially in Queensland where psychology training is not even required, is not qualified to provide that level of support.
They could provide referrals, but they are not a psychology service. They're hardly even a counselling service in modern schools.
Again, if your child requires acute intervention or ongoing counselling - organise your own! It is not the school's job to do your parenting for you.

Yeah my son (also previous BSHS kid ) was at the station just after it happened . Police tape blocking all the stairs to the platforms and one train stopped with damage to the front of it . He Saw the ambos bring the stretcher up but at that stage the boy was still under the front of the train .
It’s so awful ….
Yeah it's fucked, rip. Wasn't it South bank station that's normally filled to the brim with BSHS kids, hopefully the people on the train didn't have to witness it.
It was later in the arvo there was not that many kids left I was at the south bank bus stop only a few kids were coming down from the train station. It was at like 3:35 ish so most kids were gone.
This is traumatising just to hear about. I hope everyone that was there is getting support after that. Please reach out to services if you are struggling!!!

I saw it happen just this arv - as a state high student I can say that there is a support system in the school however it’s really weak. State high is a great school but this is the second death from our school in two weeks. It’s just sad. I can only hope this is the end of it.
Many of your teachers care for students' wellbeing. You might think they can't stand you or you're only a troublemaker. They'd love to help. They're there for you more than you realise.

I was at a restaurant when everything went blaring past - technical rescue, firies, ambulance, and police.
When I walked home it didn't look good.
Black bag on a gurney on the platform with a train stopped on the tracks.
Station would have been full of kids going home from school.
Unless it's the new hip holiday thing to walk around the schools in your uniform, looks like it starts this weekend.
There's like 3 schools in proximity to the station, they were everywhere.

I wouldn't wait for a railbus. Get any bus going to Park Road.
oh this is terrible news. what a terrible headspace this kid must have been in. breaks my heart. and yes i feel so sorry for the train driver also and anyone who witnessed it.
As a former state high kid, I can say that the only thing that was really good in my time there was the academia. Mental health services were pretty much non existent, and I was bullied for the entire time I went there and they didnt really do anything about it, even the severe cyberbullying/identity theft between some people in my grade didn’t get expelled, only got a suspension for a bit.
You should really make a ministerial complaint. Im sorry the adults I charge of your care failed you so miserably. I’m afraid I’ve heard way too many stories similar to this.
Please sue for damages and heal your inner child. It’s the only way the system will change. ❤️
I heard screams from the station with my friends even though i was at the bus station and I was horrified when I saw the news. As a fellow member of State High rest in piece and you will be missed. Bless all the family members, friends of that poor year 11 and the witnesses. 😭😭😟😟😟😟💗
There was just a news report on there being an incident requiring emergency services, nothing further tho. Also I’m a state high student as well, where did u hear that info from? Happy to dm
Rest in peace young one. How sad for everyone involved, especially teenagers on their way home and the child’s family. How bad must a child’s day at school be to come to this…. 💔💔💔
It wasn't just the day at school. Who knows what the kid was going through, but I don't reckon I'd be too far from the truth thinking that systemic bullying was involved. 🥺
Sending love to the family and friends and most importantly to the most beautiful, lovely individual that thought it was their time, if it is true ❤️
Also to anyone who had witnessed it, make sure to not only look after yourself but any family member or friend going through any hard or painful time, it may help them and not let these things come to pass, much love everyone 🤘
bshs counselling and mental health awareness and support seems to be overall lacking. the school will probably try and cover it up like the last suicide. horrific.
Thanks for sharing re trains. Be mindful all about how you discuss the incident online - I know we’re not “the media” but it’s important to keep people safe and reduce risk when possible. This is a good guide: https://mindframe.org.au/suicide/communicating-about-suicide/mindframe-guidelines

Minimise details about the death … use appropriate language and promote help-seeking information.”
Trains from Wacol station to Sunshine Coast travel nearby to Southbank station but do not travel through it. The nearest connection station is Roma St (the central hub) one stop north of Southbank

Do you really want to place the blame on a high school kid with clearly severe depression? It’s so fucking obvious that somebody in that headspace doesn’t have the additional emotional bandwidth to think about the ramifications of their suicide.
Edit: Maybe delete both of these comments instead of just one you scared little dog. Big opinions until you get called out.
Have you ever thought that when someone is in such mental pain that committing suicide is the best option they have, that maybe they aren’t in the right frame of mind to think about collateral damage and innocent bystanders.
These people honestly think they have nothing to live for and all you can do is condemn them for being selfish.
Grow up and move on with your life.
You’re a disappointment.
It’s become quite evident you have no idea about anything.
I feel sorry for your family, friends and colleagues who need to put up with your complete ignorance towards mental health.
Seriously? Some poor kid just killed themselves and their family’s life is forever destroyed by it and all you can think about is how it impacts you? When someone throws themself in front of a train they’re already so far gone they’re not thinking about your office commute
You're that bloke who doesn't believe in depression and mental illness.... Until it hits you like a tonne of bricks and you have absolutely no idea how to process it. I've seen plenty like you before. You're in for a ride champion 🏆
Judging by u/dildobaggins888 comment history he clearly had some mental health issues of his own to deal with.

Agreed as a former student, I don't even remember who the guidance counsellor was or even who you'd go to ask for help from
Was a former student who had a lot of interaction with the staff in that area, you weren't missing out on much.
>I've seen worse. You might think so, but PTSD doesn't necessarily take this into account. Just be aware.

bullied by other fuckwit kids no doubt.
current state high student to be honest i’ve never seen anyone get bullied maybe a few rare cases but not too much a normal person could brush off
also a current state high student- bullying is common, especially against LGBTQ+ students. the school does nothing, even when escalated

From looking at this and your post history you need some help
That would only be available for somebody with a terminal illness.
Assisted suicide should never be an option for a school student. It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
