Penticton has the worst night life of anywhere I’ve lived in years and I’ve lived in multiple much smaller towns around BC/Alberta.
I’d say Kelowna. Lots of wineries and breweries. Lots of live music compared to the rest of the valley. Beaches are alright and there is a lot so you can find some room somewhere. More options for places to stay.
I lived there for the last 5 years before I moved to Kelowna. The breweries aren’t that great for a nightlife and the parrots terrible. Kelowna’s a lot more well rounded where you have options in the day and in the evening. It’s a lot better for younger people. Penticton is more for people that either don’t care to be out too late or who have kids.
When I was in my early 20s Penticton had the better nightlife scene believe it or not. It's changed quite a bit since then though...
I do like the brewery scene that popped up there, but hate that it started to pop up right after I moved away lol.
It does have great breweries but the towns been rebranding themselves since before I moved there. I heard it use to be a great party place but now it’s definitely a lot slower with less to do for younger folks.
I’m late 20’s and moved to Pen a few years ago, I love it. Breweries are great. Always festivals going on in the summer. Have a beach fire with a few drinks in the late evenings. Definitely not night club style night life but it’s the right speed for my life stage personally.
I loved living in Penticton too! I'm definitely not shitting on it lol. I didn't move that far away (I'm just out in Princeton now) so I'm back quite a bit but it really is annoying that all the cool things started happening a couple years after I moved lol.
I think I miss living by those lakes the most though.
Depends what you’re looking for city wise. Both have great wineries and outdoor activities close by but Kelowna feels more like a city with bars and night clubs. If that’s not important to you, Osoyoos has more of a small town, quieter vibe.
I prefer Osoyoos but other than a pub there’s not really a nightlife so if you’re wanting that go to Kelowna. Personally I love the Oliver, Osoyoos wineries, restaurants and beaches more than I do those in K town
There’s more within a shorter distance in the Kelowna area. But Osoyoos is super chill and has great wineries close by.
Honestly couldn’t go wrong with either.
I’m from osoyoos, if you want a more “quiet” trip come to osoyoos if not go to Kelowna it’s way bigger and much more to do, if you enjoy wine tastings and that sorta stuff osoyoos is great, also the warmest lake in Canada I believe.
Are you driving? If so why not both? The whole okanagan valley has its cool moments
Kelownas a legit city with a growing downtown with pubs, breweries, restaurants.. that sorta thing. Think the interiors Victoria and you won't be far off.
Osoyoos is a small resort town. A lot more laid back and quieter. Both have really good wineries, both have the lake so it really comes down to what your looking for outside of those things.
Comparing Kelowna to Victoria is hilarious to me. Size wise Kelowna has been catching up yeah, but they're totally different cities in almost every way.
I guess they're pretty different yeah, but a lot of people don't realize that metro kelowna has almost 250k ppl living there now. I don't know what a better comparison would be at this point haha.
It was 85K when I lived there, boggles my mind that there's no more room for Kelowna to grow yet the population is skyrocketing. Only way to build is up now with towers popping up all around downtown.
I love Osoyoos but I’m 43. Amazing fishing, wineries and the best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever tried.
Was in Kelowna 3 weeks ago and couldn’t wait to leave. Not my vibe
Kelowna. You can get an Air BnB in some of the condo towers right downtown, and be walking or scooter distance to all the restaurant, bars, and night spots in kelowna. Most of the towers are walking distance to Tugboat Beach as well. You could also get an Air BnB near Gyro Beach / Pandosy area, and be walking distance to lots of restaurants (but not many night spots). For wineries, you can just take a cab or Uber, and lots of the wineries have shuttles too.
Osoyoos is great, but it’s a small town with not too much going on. The beaches are really nice, I’ll give it that.
Like others have said, if you want nightlife, go with Kelowna. If you want to chill, osoyoos is the place to go. I've stayed at spirit ridge resort before in osyoos and it was great, albeit a little pricey. We split the cost between 6 people, and it wasn't too bad that way. We booked a half day wine tour as well that picked us up at the resort, took us to about 10-12 different wineries, and then dropped us back off. Was definitely the way to go since we all wanted to have some drinks. Might be something to look into if you go with Osoyoos.
Kelowna has a younger vibe and is a bigger city. Osoyoos is really laid back and relaxing, far fewer options for night life. I prefer the Kelowna wineries. Mission Hill is a really nice visit. I actually prefer Osoyoos wine as a whole though, so if you are really into drinking wine, it could be a better fit. If you are into beautiful wineries, Kelowna.
Osoyoos would never be my choice for a trip. I don't want to be too unkind but the town itself is pretty run down and doesn't have much to offer. There's beaches nearby and some nice wineries but the town isn't pretty.
Kelowna offers a lot more options.
Couple times a year unfortunately, for work. There's one street with a BP's, a decent pub, and a small brewery, but the rest of the town is unfortunately a dump.
Penticton is Great. Lots of wineries around there and if you’re up for a short drive you can visit summerland or venture further down to Osoyoos as well.
Bring or rent an inner tube and float down the channel in Penticton. It takes a couple hours depending on how fast the water is flowing. It’s always a good time.
Penticton would be my choice unless night clubs are a must have for you. It's easy to get around, Oliver, Osoyoos, Naramata and Summerland are all under an hour to get to. Beautiful beaches on both ends of the city. Some really nice restaurants. Might be difficult getting accommodation though, most places ate booked the year prior for the summer. It really has everything you could want other than night clubs!

Early 20’s I’d say Kelowna. If you were early 30’s I’d lean towards Osoyoos! Or split the difference and do Penticton.
Penticton is a really good split. All the wineries and beaches and some nightlife as well.
I agree Penticton is the happy medium between Kelowna and Osoyoos.

I loved slack Alice's in penticton!
It burned down before my time but I’ve heard some wild stories about the place.
Well I was 17 when I was in there, haha burnt down shortly after
There are tons of breweries that have popped up in Penticton over the past couple years. Lots of nice restaurants as well.

Yeah that's the sense I get too.

I agree with this 100%

If you wanna party do Kelowna. If you wanna chill do Osoyoos
And if you wanna do meth, go to Penticton!

Is there nightlife in Penticton?
No. Not even a little bit.
RIP slacks? :p
This town still hasn't recovered from MC Hammer
Does the Barking Parrot really count as night life? 😁
There’s more within a shorter distance in the Kelowna area. But Osoyoos is super chill and has great wineries close by. Honestly couldn’t go wrong with either.
Cocaine and steroids your deal? Definitely Kelowna.
I think that keeps Penticton in the running too
Osoyoos is boring as hell at night go to K Town
Yep definitely Kelowna, Osoyoos has no “night life” in my opinion
I’m from osoyoos, if you want a more “quiet” trip come to osoyoos if not go to Kelowna it’s way bigger and much more to do, if you enjoy wine tastings and that sorta stuff osoyoos is great, also the warmest lake in Canada I believe.

Medium sized cities, both tourist destinations, lots of good restaurants and centered around a waterfront.. I see lots of similarities
I guess they're pretty different yeah, but a lot of people don't realize that metro kelowna has almost 250k ppl living there now. I don't know what a better comparison would be at this point haha.
It is wild that Kelowna is over 200k now. Its absolutely exploded since I was a kid.
It was 85K when I lived there, boggles my mind that there's no more room for Kelowna to grow yet the population is skyrocketing. Only way to build is up now with towers popping up all around downtown.
When I lived in Kamloops decades ago there was a bit of competition between the two cities, now one has clearly left the other in the dust...
Even kamloops has 120k people living there now though. It's crazy lol.
Penticton. Wine tour the Naramata Bench then come back into town for dinner, drinks, and a stroll on the beach.
I love Osoyoos but I’m 43. Amazing fishing, wineries and the best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever tried. Was in Kelowna 3 weeks ago and couldn’t wait to leave. Not my vibe
Neither! Naramata! If between the two Osoyoos

Most of the Airbnb’s in Kelowna have been shut down.
Are you driving? Then definitely Kelowna.
Chill vaycay go to osoyoos
But I’m in my 30’s
Osoyoos if you like interesting wine and somewhat eclectic vibes (New Mexico ish).
Like others have said, if you want nightlife, go with Kelowna. If you want to chill, osoyoos is the place to go. Look into the prices and availability of hotels and Airbnbs. That’ll give you your answer!
Osoyoos hands down!
Stay at sparkling hill and do a private van wine tour.
Man I can’t afford this in my late 30s.
Osoyoos would never be my choice for a trip. I don't want to be too unkind but the town itself is pretty run down and doesn't have much to offer. There's beaches nearby and some nice wineries but the town isn't pretty. Kelowna offers a lot more options.
Osoyoos has the *strangest* Home Hardware I’ve ever been in.
When’s the last time you’ve been to osoyoos? Never heard anyone describe it as “run down” that’s a new one
Couple times a year unfortunately, for work. There's one street with a BP's, a decent pub, and a small brewery, but the rest of the town is unfortunately a dump.
There's a hidden litte gem, just of highway 97, Arby's. Must try!

100% Penticton. Float the channel, livelier bars and more fun in general. Kelowna is filled with wankers and Osoyoos is beautiful but sleepy
Either would be fun Just don’t walk alone on Mission Creek trail …
Curious as to why not?

I love Pentican and you get get on the winery bus & get toured around. So much fun with the girls for the week or weekend 🥂
