When we brought the puppy home, Madame decided that it was hers. She was such a good momma and quickly taught the puppy how to behave around cats. They would go all around the house together and take naps together. Even as she got older, Madame would talk to her in that chattering way they talk to kittens trying to get her attention and show her stuff. (Don't know the right word for the sound; is not the chattering they do at birds, more a chirping kind of noise. )

My dog came into a house of 5 cats, plays with cat toys and thinks she’s a cat. The cat came into the house as a young kitten and the 5 cats didn’t want anything to do with him and he attached himself to the dog and thinks he’s a dog. He will try and eat the dogs food and chew on the deer antler like the dog. My house is a house of misfits 🤣

My pup adores her cats, and has grown into a wonderful foster mom for kittens! Cats are all she’s known, and doesn’t tolerate other dogs.
The cat in this pic was a foster fail.
Yes and she is also basically a cat except when she tries to unsuccessfully herd the cats around because she thinks that’s her job

Dogs definitely pick up things from cats. I have two cats that always want to sit in my lap . When my son brings his dog over the dog ( it’s a big dog ) always jumps up to sit on my lap . He never does it to anyone else , he wants to be like the cats 🐈⬛

yes, he sits on the back of the couch and crawls all over us like a cat.
Yup. And she’s 75 lbs. When the neighbour dog comes over to play she plays like the cats. She also rubs on legs and furniture like she’s a cat. Thankfully she’s trained well enough to not do their bad habits (she leaves the plants alone! It’s amazing! lol).

Raised by 2 cats. She got very big and exuberant and annoyed them A LOT, but they loved her!
Yes. My son’s dog thought she was a cat for the most part. Had hard time getting her to even eat dogfood. She wanted to eat their catfood with them. At 13 yrs old she hates dogs and wants to live on any cat around.

Great Pryreness/mastiff was raised by the one and now he thinks he can fit were she fits...
make sure to look for a breed with a low prey drive if you have cats! even though raising the dog with cats from puppyhood will help it be more safe around your specific cats, it doesn’t eliminate risks, if a high prey drive dog like a husky has their instincts triggered they can hurt even cats they’ve been raised with.
Thank you for the advice! I will make sure to do my research on the breeds! I am going to adopt one because in my country the crisis of stray/abandoned cats and dogs is very big.
I will only bring a puppy when I feel and see that my cats are fully adjusted to the new house. Its going to be a lot of changes for them so I will only bring the puppy after they are fully aware that this is their new home.
Either going to a breeder that has cats or adopting a rescue from a foster home that has cats is your best bet! For a rescue, make sure the dog has at least been tested with cats! I adopted my dog as a young pup, and that went okay - they loved each other and kept each other company, but they didn’t really PLAY much. She outgrew them VERY quickly, and I had to intercept a lot of ‘chase the cat’ games, but she didn’t have much prey drive. She brought me to a baby squirrel she found in the grass, once! It also depends on your cats. Mine were not used to dogs, and would run from her - which made her chase (nearly any dog would do so).
My (birth) family has owned several poodles and they have all been pretty good with cats. The cocker spaniel does pester the cat a little bit, but has never tried to hurt her.
https://preview.redd.it/6g30ajh7anwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=488858a7563d7690eec164e7807b17feaa677371
I did.
The cats really seemed sad when she went across the rainbow bridge.
I had a dog from 2006 to 2022 that was raised with cats. Her old owner had 7 cats, called the dog "kitty" because it was easier to give her that name and call all the cats+her, instead of giving her a name. She had the cat "pet me with your eyes, not with your hands" attitude to some people and the "serve your god" attitude to others. She is the only dog I know that would play and use her hind legs to kick at the same time.
I miss her :( . She was a good dog and watched over everyone, dog or human, like she was their mom.

This was Sunday morning :) We were all relaxing lol
I actually had the opposite. My kitten was raised by dogs, and would try and bark like them too. It was hilarious! One of my older female dogs took my kitten under her wing and would clean her, cuddle with her and try to nurse her (although unsucessfully) but still. It was so nice to see growing up.💗
We had it the other way around; my dad would “hold court” with a bowl of ice cream and the cats learned to join in.
The dogs and cat would sit in line waiting their turns with the spoon. Dad would eat a spoonful, and then hold out a spoonful to each animal in turn. Then take another for himself, and one each for dog, cat, and dog. And so on.
Yes, there was only one spoon.
My grand uncle had a dog a cockapoo who was def raised by cats he was quite affectionate to cats and he lived with his cat mum for almost 18 years she passed a year before he did
My 100lb. Malamute was raised alongside a cat before we adopted him when he was around 5, and one of his favourite things is the cat "rub nose on leg then slowly walk past, rubbing entire body on same spot on leg"
He is a hundred pound marshmallow that doesn't understand that he isn't his 8 pound brother and I love him forever

Camila and Cora. These two plus my other cat Jack.
My grandma had a tiny mixed breed dog that was raised by cats and lived with them her whole life, she would loaf, lie on grandma’s lap and try to purr 😭😭 she was so incredibly precious and lived more than 15 years
I had a lab mix who thought she was cat and a void who thought he was a dog.
I miss them both, terribly.

My dog always lays on back of the couch since she was a puppy because she saw our cats always doing it. She’s almost 5 years old, weighs over 50lbs and still hangs on back of it.
I have a 18 yr old dachshund that used to help raise foster kittens the first 12 years of his life. Last couple years are the first time we’ve had no cats around how whole life.

She was such a good momma and quickly taught the puppy how to behave around cats. They would go all around the house together and take naps together. Even as she got older, Madame would talk to her in that chattering way they talk to kittens trying to get her attention and show her stuff. (Don't know the right word for the sound; is not the chattering they do at birds, more a chirping kind of noise. )

Dogs definitely pick up things from cats. I have two cats that always want to sit in my lap . When my son brings his dog over the dog ( it’s a big dog ) always jumps up to sit on my lap . He never does it to anyone else , he wants to be like the cats 🐈⬛

Yup. And she’s 75 lbs. When the neighbour dog comes over to play she plays like the cats. She also rubs on legs and furniture like she’s a cat. Thankfully she’s trained well enough to not do their bad habits (she leaves the plants alone! It’s amazing! lol).

so cute😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yes. My son’s dog thought she was a cat for the most part. Had hard time getting her to even eat dogfood. She wanted to eat their catfood with them. At 13 yrs old she hates dogs and wants to live on any cat around.
I had a dog that would climb up into the cat tree with our other two cats for treats😅she just started doing it so we would give her one to

I will! I have 3 cats and next month I am moving to a bigger house with a garden and I want a puppy! Any advice or tips?
make sure to look for a breed with a low prey drive if you have cats! even though raising the dog with cats from puppyhood will help it be more safe around your specific cats, it doesn’t eliminate risks, if a high prey drive dog like a husky has their instincts triggered they can hurt even cats they’ve been raised with.
I have a cat that was raised by dogs. She’s better trained than they are.

Had a German Shepherd that was raised by our Birmans. Eventually she was even sweeter than them.
No but I do have a cat that was raised by dogs. He is a weird fellow, he is still a cat but acts a lot like a dog sometimes, he plays catch and likes to race.
lol we have a cat raised by dogs. She thinks she is a dog. Now we have a new rescue cat that she training to be a dog.

I had cats that were raised by a dog! They were still very cat-like, but they were always happy to see me when I came home. Best of both worlds.
My grand uncle had a dog a cockapoo who was def raised by cats he was quite affectionate to cats and he lived with his cat mum for almost 18 years she passed a year before he did
Dog with cat software lol
My 100lb. Malamute was raised alongside a cat before we adopted him when he was around 5, and one of his favourite things is the cat "rub nose on leg then slowly walk past, rubbing entire body on same spot on leg" He is a hundred pound marshmallow that doesn't understand that he isn't his 8 pound brother and I love him forever
Yep. My Aussie would even put my cats in check when they would claw on my furniture. She made it her official job.
My dog was. She's 14 now. Basically just a slightly bigger cat.
Yes! He’s 90 lbs and lays on the back of the sofa like our cats

My grandma had a tiny mixed breed dog that was raised by cats and lived with them her whole life, she would loaf, lie on grandma’s lap and try to purr 😭😭 she was so incredibly precious and lived more than 15 years

I do. I have a 4 year old Chihuahua raised by two 6 year old cat parents!
The cats wanted to give the dog an advantage in life by raising him right! 😂
