If only recent immigrants had served Australia in a few international conflicts. I know it’s a CircleJerk sub but it’s a fact that the Indian army also commemorates this day. Don’t know if it was because of the proximity of the country or whatever, but it has long been forgotten down here.
Three battalions of Gurkhas and one battalion of sikhs fought alongside the Anzacs. It's part of the regimental history and thats why it is commemorated. My grandfather was actually amongst one of the first troops to arrive in Singapore when the Japanese surrendered so there is a long history of Indians fighting alongside Australians. I was in high school at the time. The president of the RSL came and gave us a speech. He said to the whole school assembly "if you don't like the way things are done here then go home". All the ethnic kids were in shock. Needless to say, friction at the school remained very tense for a few days because the white Caucasian kids became very entitled.

Based on the number of racist and misogynistic comments responding to your thread, there is going to be a great problem including the "new" Australian. Going by those comments, it seems they doin't want "new" Australians or inclusivity.
One of the main reasons the "new" Australians probably aren't more involved is lack of connection to what ANZAC Day recognises. Australia had the "white Australia" policy for a long time and, so, conflicts post WW2 involving Australian service personnel were predominantly white. And it's them and their children (who will mostly be white) attending services.
ANZAC Day only started to mean something to the new generation of "white" Australians in, probably the last 20 years when they became more connected with the grandfathers/grand uncles (etc) contribution.
Modern Australian doesn't even easily recognise the Aboriginal contribution to society; they're contribution to WW1, WW2 and more recent conflicts is not even talked about in mainstream circles.
New arrivals to Australia are not likely to even understand the conflicts to which Australia contributed, especially that conflict that started the "ANZAC spirit". Given the racism in today's society, evidenced by the comments in this thread, they will even less connected. Australian soldiers during WW1 and WW2 and more recent conflicts fought for freedoms that we enjoy today. Racists and misogynistic comments and behaviour are eroding those freedoms and therefore eroding the meaning of why those soldiers lost their lives, livelihoods and whatever else they have lost and are unable to talk about.
So, if you want more diverse involvement, start promoting equality and inclusivity.
I read a newspaper article by a recent immigrant form Asian background who spoke about how alienated she felt around Anzac Day. She said the day didn’t include her or her culture.

My grandfather on my mums side was light horse in WW1 and when he got back he never went near a march, in his mind it glorified war and an excuse to get drunk. I think of him and family often on ANZAC day but never been to a march.

I know it’s a CircleJerk sub but it’s a fact that the Indian army also commemorates this day. Don’t know if it was because of the proximity of the country or whatever, but it has long been forgotten down here.
Three battalions of Gurkhas and one battalion of sikhs fought alongside the Anzacs. It's part of the regimental history and thats why it is commemorated. My grandfather was actually amongst one of the first troops to arrive in Singapore when the Japanese surrendered so there is a long history of Indians fighting alongside Australians. I think younger generations have forgotten ironically.

I was in high school at the time. The president of the RSL came and gave us a speech. He said to the whole school assembly "if you don't like the way things are done here then go home". All the ethnic kids were in shock. Needless to say, friction at the school remained very tense for a few days because the white Caucasian kids became very entitled. In Australia to safely navigate your way through life to be a "good citizen" and not commit any offences or crimes, in order to obtain the knowledge required to do so, would require no less than 8 years of further education and close to 100k in debt. If you want to know how to properly do your tax so the government doesn't pray on you and take money your lawfully entitled to because of your lack of knowledge that they again don't teach you to the full extent, add thousands more and a few more years. The system is designed to work against you, its designed to not help you, yet to make as many people rely on it as possible. A system specifically designed to allow mere random employees to create and spend billions and trillions of dollars creating further debt for the population, the population who are already forced to enter into mass personal debt just to be able to obtain knowledge, and sustain their life and continue to live. Where none of those people are held liable or accountable for their actions and the affect their actions have on a population of people.. Where they apparently don't require permission or consent to create, enact and enforce any law they desire upon the people whose lives are directly and dramatically impacted and affected by such decisions. Yet if you wear a shirt someone doesn't like or a women gets offended by a man opening a door for her out of respect or good character, its a crime and your punished. Politicians spend millions of tax payer money each year of promoting themselves through the media, where did the taxpayer vote and agree to be forced to forfeit countless hours of their lives to be extorted for money so some random blatant employee can steal it and spend it on some media coverage for themselves?? Based on the number of racist and misogynistic comments responding to your thread, there is going to be a great problem including the "new" Australian. Going by those comments, it seems they doin't want "new" Australians or inclusivity. One of the main reasons the "new" Australians probably aren't more involved is lack of connection to what ANZAC Day recognises. Australia had the "white Australia" policy for a long time and, so, conflicts post WW2 involving Australian service personnel were predominantly white. And it's them and their children (who will mostly be white) attending services. ANZAC Day only started to mean something to the new generation of "white" Australians in, probably the last 20 years when they became more connected with the grandfathers/grand uncles (etc) contribution. Modern Australian doesn't even easily recognise the Aboriginal contribution to society; they're contribution to WW1, WW2 and more recent conflicts is not even talked about in mainstream circles. New arrivals to Australia are not likely to even understand the conflicts to which Australia contributed, especially that conflict that started the "ANZAC spirit". Given the racism in today's society, evidenced by the comments in this thread, they will even less connected. Australian soldiers during WW1 and WW2 and more recent conflicts fought for freedoms that we enjoy today. Racists and misogynistic comments and behaviour are eroding those freedoms and therefore eroding the meaning of why those soldiers lost their lives, livelihoods and whatever else they have lost and are unable to talk about. So, if you want more diverse involvement, start promoting equality and inclusivity.

If they could all speak English and the shop signs were in English that would be a great start. My grandfather on my mums side was light horse in WW1 and when he got back he never went near a march, in his mind it glorified war and an excuse to get drunk. I think of him and family often on ANZAC day but never been to a march. The day is changing and evolving and unless a person has family history involved in WW1 I'm not sure it means as much. The day cannot be about our current military either. Hope it becomes a full public holiday. Lest we forget.
