If Tina Fey and Dan Harmon made a show together, starring anyone from any of those shows, my body would be physically unable to handle the geek out I'd have
Veep and Community are my 2 funniest shows hands down. I can't pick one or the other just because they're entirely different formats and types of show.
I'm going to put on my Analrapist stocking and say you might like Parks and Rec and Arrested Development.
Arrested Development has some really great serialization that makes it incredibly rewatchable. It's a good show if you like to loop back around to your favourite shows like I do because I hate not having something going on.
Parks and Rec because you asked for something nourishing, and this show is about as wholesome and comforting as it gets. The performances in it are top tier and the characterization is really strong. Also it has big, positive ADHD energy which really speaks to me.
Also, The Good Place if you want a masterclass in character development and also legitimate philosophy. If you teared up at the finale of Community, you might at this one as well, in a good way.
I 100% agree. I guess it makes me kinda sad that nothing current is worth considering a classic.
I started watching crazy ex-girlfriend and that has some great moments. I don’t understand how they can keep that going for four seasons, but I’ll see how far I get.
Honestly, I missed out on Parks and Rec when it first aired, but I'd consider it a classic now. Maybe there are classics out there hiding somewhere.
Good Place I actually would consider a modern classic. They swung for the fences and they made a TIGHT 4 seasons that's practically 4 different shows.
My partner just started Derry Girls and what I've seen of that has been really funny. Also for true classics, you can't go wrong with MASH. That one will hit you in the feels.
Zach Stone is a different formula but very, very funny. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try though i know its not be everyone’s cup of tea. It only has one season but its worth a watch.
Honestly, I think that's why I don't really like the later heist episodes (the earlier ones are amazing still). They just go too far. It makes perfect sense for the Communuty characters to go nuts because that's who they are, but some of the things the B99 characters do in the heists are way too cruel. It feels like I'm watching them turn into It's always Sunny in Philadelphia characters.
>Get out of here with your gatekeeping bullshit.
LAWLS. This how **I know** you really don't understand my comment, 'Community' or possibly anything at all.
But instead of allowing you to recycle your internet ignorance into internet belligerence, I'll assist you. Dan Harmon has repeatedly said that he despises heist tropes and both s3e21 of 'Community' and s4e3 of 'Rick and Morty' are mocking heists, not embracing them.
Very different from community in a lot of ways but when it comes to comedy, The Good Place is a great one. Talk about talking a premise to wild wacky places. It's fantastic.
Do people think of Bojack Horseman as a drama? Because I never see it in these conversations and it is absolutely hilarious and has some great character exploration. Don’t know about nourishing though.
Mythic Quest is one I don't think I've seen mentioned. Danny Pudi is in it. I find it funny. It's produced by Rob McElhenney, who also does Always Sunny. But Megan Ganz is also a big part of the show.
Another vote for the good place, shrinking, what we do in the shadows. All gut busting funny with great characters.
Would also add schitts creek, and our flag means death
For hilarity plus nourishment
You want good writing and comedy.
Another show Harmon worked on was the Sarah Silverman Program which is from 2007 so it's a bit old now but it is a great show.
Other shows which you might like because they can be dark and funny might be Morel Orel written by Dino Stamatopoulos one of Harmons closer friends. Or his other show Mary Shelley's Frankenhole.
A show that is funny, a bit dark and quickwitted would be Fleabag and Crashing. It's not sci-fi or too out there but incredibly well written and with heart.
Morel Orel is fantastic. I wouldn’t say its nourishing exactly, but holy cow did it grow into something deep after starting out so silly. It did end on a hopeful note with a happier conclusion. I really was not expecting the deeper and darker roots that it exposed as it developed the characters but that made it all the more meaningful. They did an unexpectedly fantastic job with that show.
You should try Arrested Development, which I would say is similar in niche to Community and 30 Rock. But also try Veep. Truly a show that had me laughing out loud almost every episode
Ted lasso, it has some very deep moments amongst it's general light heartedness. The bear. Those two are treasures others I enjoy
Scrubs
How I met your mother
Mythic quest
Only murders in the building
Scrubs and Ted Lasso are both Bill Lawrence works and Harmon seems to appreciate his work, with the constant Cougar Town references.
I’d recommend Shrinking as well from Bill Lawrence. A lot of people seemed to not like the first episode, though.
>I love comedy and television but there are few choices that are genuinely nourishing. The longer I exist in this world the lower my expectations become.
What the hell
Curb Your Enthusiasm has to be the best comedy show out there. First couple seasons are a bit of a different style than the rest of the show, but it really hits its stride in season 4 and doesn’t let up.
I probably can't give you a top 5 since everyone has mentioned at least one of mine.
But no one has mentioned Superstore, which is a great show. Check out Kim's Convenience as well, that show got heart.
Lots of great suggestions here. I also want to mention Ghosts. Great character driven comedy that just ended its 3rd season. (The US version is based on a BBC show which I haven’t seen yet.)
I just watched 30 rock again for the first time since its original run.
Might be my favorite comedy
I have not laughed out loud like that so consistently in some time
One of my favorite comedy shows was "Dont Trust The Bitch In Apartment 23" unfortunately there's only 2 seasons. But they're only $5 each to own on YouTube.
Frasier is an excellent show. My personal favorite TV show of all time. It’s hilarious and the writing/acting is excellent. I’d highly recommend giving it a try.
It’s almost nothing to do with football. It’s about college football team partying banging “sloots “ and doing a ton of drugs. It’s so ridiculous that the horribly offensive jokes and situations are okay and taken as joke. There were a ton of times watching it where I LOL’ed alone. I don’t do that often
Fs. Alan ritchson is completely different than in anything he’s played and embodies Thad castle better than anyone I’ve seen. And the kicker is my favorite character.
Harmon! I like how he’s the only character who doesn’t act different then they normally do in the “Drug Olympics” episode (because he’s always on something anyways)
Arrested Development is my personal #1 with Community being my #2. The Russo brothers directed a lot of the higher profile Community episodes and they also directed a good handful of early Arrested Development. That would be my highest recommendation.
No particular order on the rest of my recommendations: Curb Your Enthusiasm, What We Do in the Shadows, It’s Always Sunny, Veep, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, The Office, The Good Place, Trial and Error, AP Bio, 99.
Happy Endings has zippy dialogue and somehow more jokes per minute. Pop culture references aplenty, but if the characters weren't all damaged inside and just wanted to have fun, you'd have Happy Endings. It's my #1 with Community a close #2.
Oh, goodie! No one’s mentioned these - inspired by my recent rewatch with episode/dvd commentaries
1. Cheers. Later in the episodes (seasons 5 and 6), Harmon talks more and more about wanting to do “classic sitcom episodes” - episode where the plot is less important than putting characters together and talking - if that talking is full of jokes.
Cheers is the ultimate “classic” sitcom, imo. It’s about the characters more than anything else - and once we get to know them, they can be doing anything (or nothing at all) so long as it’s funny, it’s in character, and the story stays true to the characters and hopefully advances them a wee bit. And when it was good, it would pump out the jokes.
2. Moonlighting. Was one of Harmon’s big influences (and mine). An hour-long “drama” (it’s a comedy in my heart) that broke its own structure, and knew it was a television show. Also very funny, with super fast dialogue. Devolved with its love story… and Harmon expressly did not want Community to break walls as “sharply” as Moonlighting did.
It’s also the comedy that introduced Bruce Willis to the world.
3. Fawlty Towers. Why? Because any “what else should I watch” list (comedy) should include Fawlty Towers (model for Cheers). Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) is, amazingly enough, funnier than Donald Glover in a panic (and Fawlty panics *a lot*}
Arrested Development and Brooklyn Nine Nine are #2 and #3 for me with Community being #1 as far as sitcoms go so I'd HIGHLY recommend them
If you want something short and hilarious, the Ted show is hilarious
I want to pitch Mike Tyson Mysteries to you. Jim rash is absolutely perfect in his role. Its a great escapist show that’s simple and ridiculous. Norm Macdonald is equally hilarious. the whole cast is great. If you’re interested message me and i’ll give you the site information to watch it for free on (free of pop-ups and sketchiness like that). The site has changed its domain name multiple times in order to stay up so I don’t want to name it publicly.
Hard disagree. Seinfeld is just not in the same category as any of these shows and is unsophisticated - even simplistic - in comparison.
It was good for its time but it’s just very very dated at this point. Also the live studio audience and occasional use of a laugh track are further factors that undermine the quality of the comedy.
Ah cmon now, Seinfeld was more than just good for its time. It changed everything. Without it, there’s no AD. Listen to Will and Jason’s podcasts with Jerry and LD and see how in awe and indebted they are to Seinfeld.
I recently found Monk when looking for something to occupy the place Community held on Netflix for me. It's not the beat thing ever and it has a very slow start, but it goes on to become something great, Monk is certainly similar to Abed, and watching him try to interact (and mostly fail lol) with the world around him reminds me of Abed, all the time.
How many of you in here rank Avatar: The Last Airbender in your top 5? Cuz I watched it around when it came out and I was 20ish and aside from the aspect of it being a kids cartoon, the story and themes are surprisingly grown up.
Better Off Ted is brilliant. It was canceled after two seasons though. If you just want to see some Allison Brie, Glow is an excellent show.
Too bad glow had no conclusion and just ended suddenly.
There was going to be a final season. COVID fucked it up.
I know, it still sucks though.
Yeah, I'll never get over Santa Clarita Diet being canceled on that cliff hanger either.
Veridian dynamics. We make life better.
Indeed. You get to see almost all of her.
That’s right, glow is great. I feel like I can smell Marc Maron- like years of stale cigarettes and old spice. It’s full of great characters
...have you not seen Horse Girl?
See some Allison Brie, hyu hyu hyu, i see what you did there.
It’s ranks #2 on Community college’s top 5 ranking shows
Alphabetically
In descending order
We’re not even the top community college in our community.
Arrested Development, Veep, Venture Bros.
The IT Crowd
Psych, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the Good Place, Parks and Rec
If Tina Fey and Dan Harmon made a show together, starring anyone from any of those shows, my body would be physically unable to handle the geek out I'd have
You know that's right
Really happy to see unbreakable kimmy. I think it is as funny if not funnier than 30 rock.
"Kimmy's Roommate Lemonades!" is one of my favorite episodes of television, full stop. Never fails to make me smile.
Great, thanks, now I’m singing Boobs in California while I’m walking my dog 😅
Haha yes they went all out. I’ve caught myself singing the songs from the show.
It's an inherently funny concept, perfectly executed.
Came here to say Psych, but really, I second all of these.
Go team venture!! ✌️
Super fucking run-away!
Veep and Community are my 2 funniest shows hands down. I can't pick one or the other just because they're entirely different formats and types of show.
I'm going to put on my Analrapist stocking and say you might like Parks and Rec and Arrested Development. "It wasn't really the pronunciation that bothered me"
I 100% agree. I guess it makes me kinda sad that nothing current is worth considering a classic. I started watching crazy ex-girlfriend and that has some great moments. I don’t understand how they can keep that going for four seasons, but I’ll see how far I get.

My partner just started Derry Girls and what I've seen of that has been really funny. Also for true classics, you can't go wrong with MASH. That one will hit you in the feels.
Derry Girls is great! Might need to rewatch that soon.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend sticks the landing. Keep watching. It’s one of my absolute favorites.
If you do choose to watch the good place please don’t google it. You’ll enjoy it more if you just take the plunge
Huzzah!
I am surprised A.P. Bio doesn’t make these lists. Funny show that gets experimental in later episodes. It’s highly underrated in my opinion.

Zach Stone is a different formula but very, very funny. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try though i know its not be everyone’s cup of tea. It only has one season but its worth a watch.
Agreed. The premise is so ridiculous and the writing is great
The good place; brooklyn 99, superstore, parks and rec; the office;
The heist episodes in b99 feel a lot like something that could be from community.
Same
> The heist episodes in b99... ...could be from community. This is how I know you don't understand 'Community'.
The episodes are creative and fairly ambitious for a sitcom. Get out of here with your gatekeeping bullshit.
>Get out of here with your gatekeeping bullshit. LAWLS. This how **I know** you really don't understand my comment, 'Community' or possibly anything at all. But instead of allowing you to recycle your internet ignorance into internet belligerence, I'll assist you. Jesus christ you're absolutely miserable
Man we really are hurting for some new comedies. All of these are some of my favorites, and all them are quite old.
Agreed
I’m rewatching B99 right now and I’m full on belly laughing at moments I’d forgotten about!
What We Do In The Shadows
Yeah, but one of the main characters is a grifter.
Grift grift grift grift!
Yes yes very good, thank you
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been my #1 show for a long time now.
It’s absolute gold. They hit it out of the ball park from the first minute of the pilot. Super rate chemistry and on pony writing immediately!!
The boys are out tonight huh?
Agreed! Community is a very close second for me
I've only finally watched Community within the past year, but it easily became my #2 show.
It’s the longest running sitcom for a reason
IT Crowd. Father Ted. 30 Rock.
2nd on Father Ted. I’ve rewatched it 10 times over the five years. Incredible stuff
Very different from community in a lot of ways but when it comes to comedy, The Good Place is a great one. Talk about talking a premise to wild wacky places. It's fantastic.
Happy Endings was made by the Russo Brothers who directed a lot of Community episodes.
Do people think of Bojack Horseman as a drama? Because I never see it in these conversations and it is absolutely hilarious and has some great character exploration. Don’t know about nourishing though.
There is not an entry is disagree with here. Especially the Parks and rec love. I’m still hoping there is something I’ve missed
Mythic Quest is one I don't think I've seen mentioned. Danny Pudi is in it. I find it funny. It's produced by Rob McElhenney, who also does Always Sunny. But Megan Ganz is also a big part of the show.
Haven’t seen Righteous Gemstones mentioned yet. Fantastic show
Arrested Development, Happy Endings and The Good Place
Happy Endings!
Another vote for the good place, shrinking, what we do in the shadows. All gut busting funny with great characters. Would also add schitts creek, and our flag means death For hilarity plus nourishment
Would have thought Schitts Creek would me mentioned sooner. Absolutely hilarious and also made me cry. The character development is lovely.
In terms of sitcoms, one of my other favourites is peep show
You want good writing and comedy. Another show Harmon worked on was the Sarah Silverman Program which is from 2007 so it's a bit old now but it is a great show. Archer and Rick & morty are the only shows I like as much as community. Bobs burgers is great too, but for different reasons.
You should try Arrested Development, which I would say is similar in niche to Community and 30 Rock. But also try Veep. Truly a show that had me laughing out loud almost every episode
And fleabag!

Love shrinking!
>I love comedy and television but there are few choices that are genuinely nourishing. The longer I exist in this world the lower my expectations become. What the hell
Calm down there, Jim the duck
I'm pretty sure he's a peanut with a chicken beak
Yeah, does anyone know a really funny therapist this person can talk to? Maybe Tina Fey in Kimmy Schmidt?
Curb Your Enthusiasm has to be the best comedy show out there. First couple seasons are a bit of a different style than the rest of the show, but it really hits its stride in season 4 and doesn’t let up.
Resident Alien. What We Do In The Shadows. Arrested Development. Better off Ted. Curb Your Enthusiasm.
I probably can't give you a top 5 since everyone has mentioned at least one of mine. But no one has mentioned Superstore, which is a great show. Check out Kim's Convenience as well, that show got heart.
Arrested Development is one of the most tightly written comedies I’ve ever seen. Also check out Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous
Lots of great suggestions here. I also want to mention Ghosts. Great character driven comedy that just ended its 3rd season. (The US version is based on a BBC show which I haven’t seen yet.)
All these posts and no one has mention The Last Man on Earth
Raising Hope has some great style parody/refrence episodes similar to what you’d see in Community
I just watched 30 rock again for the first time since its original run. Might be my favorite comedy I have not laughed out loud like that so consistently in some time
One of my favorite comedy shows was "Dont Trust The Bitch In Apartment 23" unfortunately there's only 2 seasons. But they're only $5 each to own on YouTube.
Arrested development Futureman Trailer park boys Workaholics Broad city I think you should leave Detroiters
schitts creek
Frasier is an excellent show. My personal favorite TV show of all time. It’s hilarious and the writing/acting is excellent. I’d highly recommend giving it a try.
Came to say this. Frasier is hilarious and The writing/acting is unrivaled
BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE. shit is so funny
Really? I see it has Chris Romano. He worked with Dan Harmon. I’ll try it. I don’t like sports but I loved the league. Oh yeah, the League!
Oh awesome!! Thanks for the recommendation And I know what you mean about LOLing alone
Harmon is the best.
Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny, and Glow. Also The Inbetweeners isn't bad.
Mission Hill. https://youtu.be/7vhHquWjO-Y?si=tORN-FNwoiVw_rnY
Father Ted, Community and Brooklyn 99 are my comfort list infinite rewatch shows.
Brooklyn 99, Parks and Rec
Seinfeld, curb your enthusiasm and the first 6ish seasons of always sunny are top tier.
30 rock is top tier.
Thanks for the Gary and his Demons recommendation. Never heard of it.
Isn’t it funny? I’m always surprised that it’s not more popular.
Only show I love as much as community is always sunny
Ted Lasso
Happy Endings has zippy dialogue and somehow more jokes per minute. Pop culture references aplenty, but if the characters weren't all damaged inside and just wanted to have fun, you'd have Happy Endings. It's my #1 with Community a close #2.

iT Crowd, 30 Rock, What We doin the Shadows, Sunny, Arrested Development
My top 5 sitcoms: 5. Scrubs/Modern Family (tied) 4. 30 Rock 3. It's always Sunny in Philadelphia 2. Arrested Development 1. Community
Agree with many of the above, but as for some I didn’t see mentioned: “American Auto” and “Raising Hope” are in my top tier group.
Raising Hope is brilliant.
Arrested Development and Brooklyn Nine Nine are #2 and #3 for me with Community being #1 as far as sitcoms go so I'd HIGHLY recommend them If you want something short and hilarious, the Ted show is hilarious
Dude VEEP by far is the funniest and best written show. You won’t get some jokes until the 5th rewatch.
Also always sunny
What We Do in the Shadows and Abbot Elementary
Personally, my top 3 comedy shows I could watch over and over are community, the good place, and scrubs
Righteous gemstones is quite funny. The polygraph guy as Uncle Baby Billy is one of my favorite character representations ever.
That sounds great! I know I've seen the name but didn't check it out. Jim Rash is all I need to know but I love norm Macdonald too!
Seinfeld is obviously the comedy GOAT. Larry Sanders Show is perhaps the most underrated top-tier comedy.
Community and The Good Place are my S-Tier. Silicon Valley, Arrested Development, and Frasier are my A-Tier. Cheers and Modern Family are my B-Tier
Psych, The Office, Scrubs, Parks and Rec, Superstore, Invader Zim, Monk... These are just shows I like and I like community.
Doctor who is the goat. Plenty of stinky episodes, but way too many simply amazing episodes to overlook it
The Office.
Schitts Creek
How many of you in here rank Avatar: The Last Airbender in your top 5? Cuz I watched it around when it came out and I was 20ish and aside from the aspect of it being a kids cartoon, the story and themes are surprisingly grown up.
I will check that out because I love animation
