Mondschatten78

Beats the propane tank "horse" I played on as a kid lol Needs a yarn mane and tail, but that's my opinion

peonies_envy

Seconding mane and tail. Probably sisal oo other twine since it’s outside.

Mondschatten78

I knew there was a better option, but my brain couldn't come up with it. Thank you!

omgmypony

it looks very similar to the sawhorse “horse” made for me by my grandpa… it had a sisal mane and tail

RavenLunatic512

I had an old tire and a few ropes between 2 trees. My inner child is imagining all the possibilities with this masterpiece. I would have loved it then, and I love it now!

harpquin

good old cloths line rope for the main and braid it for the tail.

Fluffy-kitten28

Looks like a Trojan horse to me. Very cool!

raincloudjoy

i was just going to say the same thing and ask if the barrel was full of GI Joes.

Fluffy-kitten28

Open horse for more gifts!

Rich-Eggplant6098

My thought exactly

SubstantialPressure3

He's a carpenter, not an artist. Help him out and paint the face for him. Mygrandaughter has the baby doll crib my grandfather built for me, and an aunt painted it. Because my grandfather wasn't an artist, either.

LunarLass1

good idea, i will!!😊

Pagenta

Just put one of those giant googly eyes on it

MeesterBacon

You really have a eye for detail.

omgmypony

the eyes need to be vertical not horizontal… parallel to the forehead

MarsScully

It’s an Egyptian

puddncake

Horses usually don't have white parts on their eyes, well Appaloosas sorta do, but most don't. Very nice horse!

SubstantialPressure3

The eye is fine, it's just the angle it's at.

Soft_Organization_61

Noooo I love the eye 😭😆

MituKagome

Nah don't paint it. Give his daughter some paint and glitter and let HER go nuts.

kbearclaw

This is the way!!

PhoenyxArts

That’s what I was thinking.

perksofbeingcrafty

lol I was just thinking this. The incongruity between the overall look of the horse and the one eye penciled onto the face is hilarious.

SheepHerdCucumber4

I actually think it looks fine it’s just the eye

SheepHerdCucumber4

Edit: even if you just left it as is I think it still looks great

aLonerDottieArebel

Dude that’s still awesome! I grew up riding horses and I remember we had a “horse” like this to practice putting on saddles, cinching the girth, mounting etc.. Except ours was an oil drum and four 2x4’s 🤣

lightinthefield

Oh what a sweet memory!!

aLonerDottieArebel

It really is and I had completely forgotten about it until this post!!

Hot_Oil7057

What an awesome dad! That is priceless!

Objective-Elk-2910

This is so cute 🥰🐴

reginageorgeeee

Are you crying because of how sweet it is? Because I am! I love his little penciled in eye, that bit of humanity shows how much love was put into this. It’s really lovely 😭

Sad_Lecture_3177

I am also crying 😭😭😭😭

LadyGaea

When I was a kid my best friend had a very similar horse made by her dad. The hours we’d spend playing on that thing were core memories you just unlocked! Your daughter will love this horse for a long time, how special!

hanimal16

That’s the trustiest steed I ever saw.

TastyCuttlefish

Spoiler: there are a ton of soldiers in there

elfie2187

It's so sweet. I wish I had a dad who did something like this for me. 🥺🥹

Al-GirlVersion

I freaking love this it’s so charming!

ToniBee63

He’s got gentle eyes

Sakuraphenixx

Be careful of tiny Trojan troops in there.

Stark-T-Ripper

Sorry to be 'that guy', but it was the Greeks that hid inside the horse. Hence the saying "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts".

RobynFitcher

Reminds me of the rocking elephant my Dad made for me. Wasn't painted. Just varnished wood with a hemp rope tail. Looked great without any detail or paint.

liliesinbloom

That’s actually so sweet.

TheFoxAndTheRaven

Needs a rope to act as reins to hold on to. Maybe some simple rope stirrups too. Aw heck, can I come over and play arts & crafts too?

Really_Fun_YaYa

What a sweet thing to do, I am sure his daughter loves it!!

Tygress23

I love it! It just needs a mane and a tail. I would have killed for this when I was a kid.

pm_me_hedgehogs

So cute!!

Tropicalstorm11

How sweet is this!!! ♥️♥️♥️

Maleficent_Virus_556

Before bringing it into your house, please check inside for soldiers for the safety of your family.

Bitter-Hitter

This is giving awesome vibes 🐴 My dad got me the 1970’s style plastic one that was on springs!

PhoenyxArts

I had one of those!

reallytrulymadly

Needs a way to open it up so you can put dolls inside and play Trojan Horse stories

kittytoes21

It reminds me of Gumby’s friend Pokey!

BlobCobbler

Better than anything my dad ever made for me, which is nothing.

ArtichokeNatural3171

You have a pretty good start, I think it would be great to have some fun with finding fluffy fabric for a mane and tail, not to mention all the other neat stuff like saddles and whatnot... Its cute!

isobea

He looks like a horse that Lemongrab from Adventure Time would ride 😭😭 I love it

TabithaBe

Is she supposed to ride on it or in it? How far are you from Troy?

haikusbot

It’s darling!

sexy_bellsprout

I love it! How old is your niece? Maybe she can help with some extra decorating (colourful paint, mane and tail etc)

FormicaDinette33

Rainbow tail with sparkles!

Peepshellgirl

This is so cool! Top dad💯

BadbadwickedZoot

You know what? I would have loved this as a kid.

8thoursbehind

Top parent in my eyes. Personally i'd be fucking heartbroken if I found out that my brother has posted this on Reddit as an *apparent* dig.

TooMama

Seriously what is happening here? This seems pretty mean-spirited. All I see here is a)a guy who is trying his hand at wood-working, creating something that most people could/would never create, and b)a thoughtful dad who is loves his daughter very much. Thumbs up for OP’s brother alone

productivediscomfort

I really don’t think that’s what this is. The flair is “cool craft by someone else”, there’s a heart eye emoji, and it’s under the craft subreddit, not r/nailedit or anything like that. I think the post is very genuine. If other people are responding to it as a joke, that’s on them.

8thoursbehind

That is a fair point; I read the title as crying with laughter, plus the top comment that OP replied to, without any correction, refers to the brother as " not an artist."

productivediscomfort

I agree it could be on the line (and there may very well be some shared amusement about the eye). This really doesn’t read as a roast to me though. I read the cry-laugh and heart-eye emoji combo as “I’m crying from how cute and sweet this is.” Reading their response to the top commenter generously (which I’d like to do, since I think the spirit of the post is genuine), I would say it was agreeing to ask the brother if he wants their help gussying it up. Some craftspeople feel relieved when someone steps up to help with the fussy detail stuff. Especially if they’re the artsy/crafty sibling. Anyway, none of this is meant as an argument. I think you have a good point, and I would need more context to have a more definitive opinion.

8thoursbehind

I'm currently suffering from covid and feeling far more cynical than I usually am. In hindsight, I have absolutely no idea what anyone's intention is/was. Thank you for being so delightful about the whole scenario. I needed the positivity injection.

productivediscomfort

Oh my gosh, no worries!!! I have been there so many times, and I’ve often needed help to fight my way out and back to positivity. I hope you feel better soon, friend. One day at a time!

8thoursbehind

✌🏼💙 Thank you, friend!

productivediscomfort

I think there’s something that I resonate with here too, as being an amateur artist/maker who collaborates on a number of diy projects/objects/art pieces with family and friends, and we joke around about the parts that turn out a little wonky, offer and ask to share skills, and feel genuine pride in the finished project, in all of its handmade-ness. This kind of photo and description is something we would share in a group chat, and it would be done in good faith. I would be excited to share if a sibling put so much work and love into a project like this, and while we might gently tease about a detail like the eye (if it’s a consensual part of the shared dynamic), it would be part of acknowledging the effort of the creator in putting themselves out there without feeling suffocated by the desire for factory perfection. Anyway! I know this is my own experience and I don’t know the dynamics of the OP’s family, but I just wanted to underline that there are a number of different reasonings behind sharing a project like this with others.

QuantityOk6180

She Wii love it! Put a tail and mane on

SheepHerdCucumber4

That’s really cool! I think I would see if you know someone that could paint a better eye on there for him, or perhaps ask another sub for suggestions on how he can paint the eye better himself. I’m not an artist, but I think a black paint would be better than what looks to me like pencil. Also someone else suggested a yarn tail and I also think that could help. Again, you could ask a crafting sub. Otherwise perhaps your local city’s sub, or if you have NextDoor, I think that’s a better bet, more personal and real on there. Lastly you could see if you have a public funded Makerspace nearby that could help. All said it’s a beautiful foundation IMO

HalfWrong7986

How sweet!!

UtherPenDragqueen

She’ll love it

MyOpinionsFree

Needs a saddle to protect the inside of legs from splinters and nails.

reallytrulymadly

I kind of like the simple eye, gives it that Grecian look

olddeadgrass

hmmm is he by chance planning an invasion?

IlluminatiaGhost

I love it!! Great job!!

AssumptionShort

The comment section restored my faith in humanity 🥺

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

Awesome!!! Omg I would have loved this as a kid! Lol

Justifiably_Cynical

Does it take a saddle?

lucyferzyr

Be carefull, I'm pretty sure it's a trap :sus: (It's an amazing job btw!)

Metrilean

It's Trojan?

Useful_Emu_8628

Are we sure this isn’t a Trojan horse?

Lil_miss_feisty

I think it's cute. It's giving me [Lemon Grab](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/adventuretimewithfinnandjake/images/2/2b/S3e5_Lemongrab_riding_camel_looking_up.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/250?cb=20181218203743) vibes. Then again, I'm a huge Adventure Time fan.

tripflops

He put some time and effort into it for sure, that’s pretty sweet. A horizontal leg bracing maybe could have been incorporated into a ladder as opposed to the angle bracing

Krista_Michelle

It has a sweet face

ValentineTarantula

Honestly, everything about it is the best.

scarletbluesunshine

i am obsessed with this!! it’s so sweet, i would have loooved this as a little girl. help him out with the mane and tail and it’s perfect!

FormicaDinette33

Now she can dress it up with a feather boa and some sparkles. Turn it into My Little Pony. That is hilariously cute.

mrsgrayjohn

Looks like the wooden horses that polo players use to practice their swing.

MilkyPsycow

Needs a lil booty hatch for soldiers to jump out lol this is great What a great dad for putting in the effort to do this for his child. You could easy make a lil fabric saddle and mane and tail to finish it off Can prob get a used cheap saddle on fb marketplace

As an equestrian, you need to most this is r/horses and r/equestrian. They’d love it

itsthejasper1123

r/diWhy All jokes aside it’s cute!!! And it’s the thought that counts, I guarantee she loves it :)

TheLalab

It's absolutely beautiful

evilcathy

I'd check to make sure there are no Greeks hiding inside.

dragonagitator

don't bring it inside your walls without checking inside for greeks first that's how they get you

Morti_Macabre

Look he did awesome on everything else I can excuse the face, id love to paint this!!!

peachneuman

Super cute and thoughtful, but I’d paint over the eye. It is a human eye not a horse eye. It unnerves me.

icerobin99

check it for greeks

_Mandible_

It’s giving medieval torture device and I love it

DrCrappyPants

The penciled in eye *chef's kiss*

ModerateJustice

This is the cutest thing ever

Mooniekate

Just make sure it isn't full of Trojans before you bring it inside...

Curious_Patience637

A mighty steed! Worthy of King Author himself!

Wonderful-Status-507

heeeeellllp i love it! he said don’t you worry baby daddy’s gonna get you a horse some way some how!!

Wonderful-Status-507

the eyes are ABSOLUTELY sending me and i almost feel like y’all gotta leave them as is bc that lifeless stare is gonna KILL at her future graduation party

TourFederal1367

CanadiangirlEH

Horse looks like he’s seen horrors beyond the comprehension of man 😜

GHOST_ou

🤣 well there's some imagination involved
