Signed into law by Reynolds on May 17. (Currently yesterday)
Who wanted this law? I feel like the state government is just looking for anything that might look like progress or change, and then they slam the car into reverse.
“Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain.” Right? Or “Nah, Our liberties must be carefully apportioned by the state, and our rights are just impermanent permissions.”
Kim doesn't care at all about her constituents. She sticks to the conservative playbook 100% of the time. She and other conservatives can do this relatively safely because for the most part their voters are not and do not want to be informed. You can do whatever you want as long as you give the right sound bites to the news, preferably around the border, abortion, something woke, or lgbtq. Pretty much none of their voters follow up on what policies actually do.
Even still it won't change how they vote. Conservatives unfortunately have a habit of voting against their interests as long as their candidate is saying they stand against the same people they don't like.
Yes. That’s what I understand, BUT if you want edibles stronger than 10mg, then u have to buy multiple INDIVIDUAL packages. Eventually, it will reduce access since I doubt outside companies will package for Iowa
I don’t think you realize how restrictive Iowa’s medical marijuana program is. There are twelve chronic conditions on the list plus if you have a terminal illness where life expectancy is less than a year. And if you do qualify for the program, you can buy up to 4.5 grams of THC every 90 days and only from their designated distributors (which are also extremely limited)
Trust me and believe in yourself. Call the doctor's number Bud and Mary give you with anxiety and depression and soon, they'll give you PTSD. It's as quick and easy as that.
Please don't make me fill in all the details.
This sub tends to forget Des Moines is a small town. Surrounding us are red cities everywhere, there’s no way Kim would shoot her own foot and support legalization of what is viewed as a drug. If she had her way she’d ban gay marriage and make abortion and contraception illegal. So, yeah. Good luck, babe
I grew up in Western Iowa and you are not wrong, and I don't see that changing anytime soon as it's not like more "progressive" (it's so fucking stupid I have to put weed in that category) ideas are flooding into those communities. I moved out of the small town I grew up in after I graduated. I went back for the first time in 20 years and there was very little noticeable change.
People who didn't grow up in those areas just don't understand how rural they truly are, and mentalities are just as slow to change as the towns are.
Shit, there's people in the metro who get stressed out about going to downtown Des Moines. If downtown Des Moines stresses people out, holy shit.
That doesn't happen. It's not like they're putting up checkpoints on I35 for weed. Thousands of cars go across the IA/MO border daily. Just make sure everything on your car is up to date and drive like a normal person on the Interstate does.
If it's about the money, collecting fines from people getting caught crossing the border would be like 1% of the tax revenue generated from legalizing legitimate business.
I think we just have a bunch of old conservative turds pandering to their old conservative constituency. They know who butters their bread and are riding it out.
Rescheduling also now requires a long waiting period, and after, the ATF can still decide no.
Yeah, don't hold your breath.
Some asshole will still say no
Cough, Cough, GrASSley. Dude has been anti-hemp and all the opportunistic farming endeavors which would benefit IA.
Also it is an election year so how many of these things are a set up for future platform ideas.
Yep, it’s really just the second bullet point in this graphic that is the issue. Big Pharma and alcohol companies absolutely do not want legal hemp/weed products. It might be better for people, but it cuts in to their profits. They don’t care about people, just the bottom line, and they have paid the government to align with their only concern.

SMALL GOBERRMINT
This is small gooberment. A small number of goobers are in complete control. They never meant anything else.

Almost as if not everything is black and white and we shouldn’t vote along party lines for everything
Missouri thanks Kim for the added revenue they're about to receive.
Made a trip today 🥰

i work at a thc store in dsm, even the more conservative patrons didn’t want this passed. this stinks

I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around that fact for years—esp. economic policies
She's still shooting for a VP offer or Cabinet position if Trump somehow ends up in the White House instead of prison.
Minnesota thanks you
And legalization will make this mute ...as in SILENCED
Moot, but yes.
It's "moo". A moo point.
It’s a cows opinion. It doesn’t matter, because it’s moo.
sMeLls liKe MOneY
We’ll still be able to buy stuff like climbing kites as I understand the bill? They’ll redo their nutrition info so each serving is under 4mg.
Yes. That’s what I understand, BUT if you want edibles stronger than 10mg, then u have to buy multiple INDIVIDUAL packages. Eventually, it will reduce access since I doubt outside companies will package for Iowa
So the end result is buying it individually wrapped like bubble gum?
Probably.
Honestly if that is all it is I don't see this as that big of a deal personally. As long as I can still get my climbing kites, I'm happy.
Need to ban homeopathic medicine alongside this.
Regulate the supplement industry, then ban chiropractic, reiki, and any other pseudoscience.
Ban diabeetus medicine with it. Hit em where it hurts. They'll change their mind reallllll quick
“I’m a sovereign citizen!”
In an (declining) ag state no less
Go get your medical card.

It's actually incredibly easy to get your card. Do you have anxiety? Depression? Done. As far as your other points? true.
Anxiety and depression are not on the list of applicable conditions. PTSD is, but not anxiety or depression.
Trust me and believe in yourself. Call the doctor's number Bud and Mary give you with anxiety and depression and soon, they'll give you PTSD. It's as quick and easy as that. Please don't make me fill in all the details.
and expensive
You can get a limit increase for free. Getting a card is stupid easy if you have chronic pain or PTSD.
Seeing as Kim Reynolds is related to the owners of Bud and Mary’s, this was for sure her goal.
So delusional that they’re signing this

I normally downvote you. But for once, I won't. You are from a truly small town and understand how limited small-town thinking can be.

They want people to go get it out of state so they can get caught crossing state lines and give them an even fatter paycheck

Very much this
Scan anyone give me examples of who the hemp businesses are?
https://idph.my.site.com/consumablehemp/s/active-manufacturer-facilities
And legalization will make this mute
*moot
Well, Minnesota just passed restrictions on hemp in a legal state. I’m not holding my breathe for federal. Rescheduling is not decriminalizing, yet
Rescheduling also now requires a long waiting period, and after, the ATF can still decide no. Yeah, don't hold your breath. Some asshole will still say no

This is to eliminate competition before legalization happens.

They are outlawing running hemp businesses a couple years before they legalize cannabis and let MedPharm run uncontested.

Fuck this law but these numbers are dubious.
