Same. On that note, one of the most exhausting parts of loving some of the movies I love is how I have to aggressively defend my position on liking Waterworld. People absolutely cannot understand that I realize the movie is bad but I still like it. Among movie nerds it’s soooooo cool to hate it. Like come on. There are worse movies.
Gravity is very intense but in more of a grown up way.
Zathura is a kids adventure movie (actually a side-quel to Jumanji, kind of) that takes place in space and is fun and surprisingly intense. But it’s got that same sense of cozy/teetering on dangerous fun the best rides have.
Explorers also comes to mind in a “space romp/adventure” sense.
I also can’t condone others’ recommendations of The Black Hole—I tried watching it for the first time recently and it’s like your grandparents trying to do a community theater version of a sci-fi story they half-read in Reader’s Digest.
The Lost In Space movie from the 90s isn’t exactly…y’know…good, but it is fun and has, in my opinion, a Space Mountain-y vibe.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension
Race to Witch Mountain (the remake)
The Last Starfighter
Edge of Tomorrow for something newer. Nonstop, love the concept, doesn’t have the retro vibe.
6 Underground for nonstop action, plus some funny bits to lighten the mood. But it doesn’t have the retro vibe.
I was gonna say this one. When the main character goes through deep space. The stars forming and moving like a great tunnel or wave. That whole intense travel segment.
Came here to say exactly this. This movie taught me what Florida is, sort of, and Space Camp was a movie I'd also confuse a little with it as a kid because of the techno NASA scenes. The re-entry scene of Space Camp would also make me think of Space Mountain.
All the goofy antics with MAX and especially the scene where he shuts off the ship make me think of the darkness and wild ride of Space Mountain.
Edit: The techno song was from Flight of the Navigator, I confused it again...

It's worth pointing out that if you look really closely, that the actual Space Mountain building is hiding in the background of the city of Tomorrowland in the Disney movie *Tomorrowland*.
That made me lol because “what” to anything is really funny to me, anyways
Like a movie that feels like when you’re riding space mountain, like how space mountain has a very specific space, nostalgic vibe to it
Are there any movies that are a similar vibe?
Not sure why you got a downvote but I know what you mean - like a certain feeling a movie gives you that you can relate that feeling/vibe to a memory or location/place. I get it! I feel that way about watching the old 90's Disney parks promo VHS tapes; they give me the same feelings of growing up in the 2000's. Maybe I'm weird but I wouldn't downvote you for this.
Anyway, I suggest maybe checking out Disney's Treasure Planet, or honestly 2001 Space Oddity. Spacey / Sci-Fi and give the same feelings and vibes of (at least for Space Mountain) the queue you wait in to ride the ride
Yes! Thanks! You understand what I mean! I love the feeling of space mountain, that’s why I went on it 3 times last time I was in Magic Kingdom! Thanks for the help
Saw someone else recommend here to check out the video game "No Man's Sky". That game, while not a movie, really is fun to play and has serious Space Mountain exploration energy. It's also great to just get lost in :)
Oblivion with Tom Cruise and Tron Legacy. Ironically both directed by Joseph Kosinski. I’d also throw in the video game Starfield as a lot of the soundtrack has Space Mountain vibes.
I don’t believe you can stream it, but Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was the OG Buzz movie and was one of those direct to dvd movie length pilots for an ensuing Buzz Lightyear disney channel show
It’s very space-y, very fun, highly recommend it
"Nerve" with Emma Roberts has a very intense, fast paced vibe to it. The color palette for the movie is sort of like space mountain? Full disclaimer I haven't ridden the ride yet but I love comparing things off of vibes.
Maybe Disney’s “The Black Hole”.
Omg just looking at the poster I went 😯
The ending will explode your brain and make you ask “This was a kids’ movie?”
This is the way.
Not a movie But the video game No man’s sky always felt like a space mountain game to me
Yes! Such an awesome game with similar vibes
I love No Mans Sky. The game definitely gives Space Mountain vibes, especially when you exit the space stations.
Alien. Except in Space Mountain everyone can hear you scream.
That is really funny
TRON
Came here to say this! Tron Legacy specifically
Oh it most definitely needs to be legacy.
The last 20 minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey A few scenes in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
Thanks!
Speed Racer
This was my suggestion too. Is it a good movie? Lord Jesus no. Is it an amazing watch? Absolutely.
At the end of the day, the difference between an amazing movie and an amazing time mean very little to me. I love that movie to death

I… I guess Captian E.O..
Gross.
The Last Starfighter maybe?
The original Star Wars? Especially the trench run in Episode IV.
I assumed they would eventually connect it to lightyear considering the Easter eggs in the movie.

Interstellar?
I was gonna say this one. When the main character goes through deep space. The stars forming and moving like a great tunnel or wave. That whole intense travel segment.
Flight of the navigator?
Yes yes!
[Explorers](https://youtu.be/al75vXD6koc?si=-IjfU4NuzwVy9nmr) had a similar vibe. I haven’t watched it since I was a small child though lol
Yes!

Maybe Mission to Mars.
Space Jam kinda. The aliens come from a space theme park
It's worth pointing out that if you look really closely, that the actual Space Mountain building is hiding in the background of the city of Tomorrowland in the Disney movie *Tomorrowland*.
Oh yeaaaaa
Tomorrowland yes that’s a movie
I forgot about that, I remember when it came out
what

The first image is Tokyo’s space mountain and the 2nd is WDW’s..
Yeah I know but I was just trying to post this fast and you get what I mean from the pics and the title of the post
The Explorers
Wasn’t there a space mountain movie in development at one time?
Yeah there is! I think it still is
Star Trek Beyond and the Guardians of the Galaxy series kinda gives me a bit of that vibe
Oblivion with Tom Cruise and Tron Legacy. Ironically both directed by Joseph Kosinski. I’d also throw in the video game Starfield as a lot of the soundtrack has Space Mountain vibes.
Tron legacy
Isn't the french version of Space Mountain based on A Trip to the Moon
Yes it is
Well, there you have it
I don’t believe you can stream it, but Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was the OG Buzz movie and was one of those direct to dvd movie length pilots for an ensuing Buzz Lightyear disney channel show It’s very space-y, very fun, highly recommend it
Alrighty :)
Stargate
Speed Racer.
Not alien or space themed, but with all the flashes of color and zooming through, I’m vibing with the original Willy Wonka lol
Oh yeah you’re kinda right
Logan's Run
"Nerve" with Emma Roberts has a very intense, fast paced vibe to it. The color palette for the movie is sort of like space mountain? Full disclaimer I haven't ridden the ride yet but I love comparing things off of vibes.
Okay okay thanks for the help, even tho you haven’t ridden!!
