I don't think lack of food for two days is at all okay, but I'm not a vet. There are canine appetite stimulants available here in the US by vet prescription. CBD can also help encourage him to eat. If his teeth are not an issue, you could try adding some chicken broth to his dry food and putting it in the microwave for 30 seconds to increase the aroma. If his teeth are an issue, you can also take some rotisserie chicken, add a bit of chicken broth, and purée it in a blender to see if he'll go for that. Other options are adding peanut butter or liverwurst to his meals. I hope your good old boy gets his appetite back soon!

His teeth are fine according to the vet. I will try the chicken broth. I did think about it but was worry about the salt in it. I will go find some liverwurst. Thanks Thanks

See if you can find low-sodium broth - if not, you can water down regular broth :)

Thanks :)

That's not the dog being picky, that's a medical issue. It sounds like something is wrong and he is not feeling well, or, whatever is wrong is causing him to be nauseous and not want to eat. It sounds like it's time for a trip to the vet. Try to convince him to eat a little bit until you can get him into the Vet. Even if you have to hand feed him or use the soggy food trick. Regarding arthritis, see if you can get your dog on an arthritis medication, that should help the pain and Mobility. Cbd can also help with pain and Mobility. You might also check out a supplement with those MSM and glucosamine.

He is on anti-inflammatory meds & some arthritis booster injection every 6 weeks. I also feed him some supplement (powder form) for it but because he is not eating much so he hasn't been having that. I have resorted to hand feeding him but it's not really working now. Still very into his treats. Thanks for your advice. I just made an appointment to bring him to the Vet.

You might try some pain meds, I'd ask your vet. My dog was in pain and wasn't eating. Turns out he had arthritis and other issues that cropped up in the last few months. he had a dental, several extractions and a full blood and x-ray work up in July, but recently he took a turn for the worse. Also, when he was having dental issues it progressed similarly to your description as well. I'd be surprised if there wasn't an underlying issue. When was the last time you had blood work? Sometimes you can't see dental issues too ☹️ they are under the surface.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. Hope s/he is getting better. He is on anti-inflammatory meds & some arthritis booster injection every 6 weeks. I also feed him some supplement (powder form) for it but because he is not eating much so he hasn't been having that. I just made an appointment to bring him to the Vet. I think he had a blood work about a year ago. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks, he went over the 🌈 bridge yesterday. It was very peaceful and we had the vet come to the house. He was resting with me in the grass with sunshine and nice breeze, so sad peaceful as can be. He was such a good boy. I'm terribly sad, but I'll be ok. It sounds like a recheck on the blood may be a good next step if it's been that long. It's good that he's on some pain management already. I hope he perks back up. We had mine on an appetite stimulant for a few days, he got back into eating then and wanted to eat for a few more weeks. Best of luck, I know how hard it is. Have you tried any really special food? Like Bacon or deli meat? Or fresh cooked fish? Even when mine didn't want anything, he wanted turkey bacon 😁 sometimes that would get his appetite going. He liked the blue buffalo light and trim wet food and the origen original canned food too. Have you tried any canned foods?

FongL

I am so sorry to hear that. Sending you hugs. He has really sensitive stomach since he was a puppy, so I don't really dare to feed anything but I will try something. He was on dry food, than I mixed it with can food. He doesn't want those anymore. Thanks for the suggestion. Take care.

My dog wasnt eating dog food well and only wanted people food. I took her to the vet after trying different kinds of food and it turned out she had kidney failure. I dont want to scare you but I wish I had taken her in sooner. I suggest a vet visit just in case there is something going on with your boy. Hopefully he is just picky in his old age and you will feel better knowing he is ok.
