The one that always trips me up is when it plays “de” and “te”

I had to put my phone up to my ear to hear the difference, but I can hear it. It is subtle.

In many dialects of Spanish, the final "n" is pronounced as a velar nasal n, which means it's a kind of nasal sound made in the back of the throat (similar to, though not exactly the same as, the way people pronounce "ng" at the end of a word in English). For that reason, the sound is a bit more subtle and hard to identify if you're not used to it. I'm a native speaker and I can clearly hear the distinction between "quieren" in the first and "quiere" in the second, but I can definitely see how someone not used to it would struggle to identify it. That's probably the reason for the excercise. To get your ear attuned to that sound.

I'm glad to see this. I'm 66 and blame it on bad hearing. Even with my hearing aids it's hard.

I hear the difference. I had one once do el and él. 50/50 chance lol

I hear them very different but it just may be due to more exposure to hearing the language that my ears are attuned to the subtle differences.
