I got one the other day with an offer of 50% for a buy-it-now item at a great price with 10 watchers. The buyer said they really like the clothing item except they don't have a lot of money and can only pay half. I blocked and moved on.

GelOfYouth

I have noticed that buyers that are a pain in the ass before the sale are a bigger pain the ass after the sale.

SixStarz6

I did this once. Talked way too much. Tried too hard to please and I was not going to go lower on the shipping. I ignored. I got lucky and he went away. Only took once. Now and especially when the price is good I ignore a lot. It will sell. I eventually sold both.

MysteryRadish

You give him way, way too much time and attention. Most likely, he was trying to get the price under the authentication threshold so he could scam you with an INAD. Next time, block any repeated discount requests and definitely block at any hint of a sob story. Those buyers almost always are trouble after the sale anyway and tend to leave bad feedback.

Commonslob

You went above and beyond already, if he’s wants to treat himself your price is your price. Keep it a business, his sob story is irrelevant

Run don’t walk away from this buyer

I had a problem with a guy recently…I was selling item worth $500 he messaged me saying if I can lower the price little bit he would buy it immediately so I lower the price for him about $25 . He didn’t buy it for that price. Next day message me saying everyone is selling it way lower than yours can you lower the price bit more .. at first I said no but still decided to lower the price for him .finally he made a purchase item was shipped and delivered at his house . And few hours later he messaged me saying that his girlfriend bought the same thing for me as a gift can I return this and I knew as soon as I realized that he’s from Atlanta because in past i had 2 orders from Atlanta both bought shoes and returned fake ones back so keep that in mind also this can happen if you’re selling high tag products.

Flux_My_Capacitor

BLOCK HIM NOW. Honestly he will find a tiny pinpoint flaw and use it to file an INAD.

InternationalPay8288

I would not have responded to that nonsense.

AmeriC0N

I will never understand why some sellers choose to have multiple days conversations with an abusive would-be buyer like it's social media. You are simply encouraging them with your replies. Don't engage. Block and move on. If you sell to them, there is a good chance of a return.

blackbowtie420

I agree wholeheartedly. I did block immediately after posting this. Now I know what everyone else has been talking about. Lessons learned.

Hour-Piglet-7028

Good move. I’ve learned my lesson also with back and forth messages. I now block anyone I feel uncomfortable about and move on. As far as offers from a buyer, I will either accept or counter offer with my best price. If they counter offer I will decline and move on. I also never negotiate a price through messages. Some sellers do but I’ve had nothing but headaches doing this in the past. If my listing doesn’t accept offers it’s for a reason. My shipping cost and method is stated clearly. I never negotiate on that. Isn’t eBay fun! Good luck in the future!

Revzerksies

I'v learned to block people when they just don't feel right or excessively pushy.

candied-corn

On some items I just block anyone who messages me at all

Just a question, I am still learning, for 20 years I had friends buy me stuff, because I had troubles setting up PayPal.. it was easier to go to their place and tell them what I think I needed. Within a month I would give them BBQ dinner as payment for work.. I finally got my own ebay account. I am trying to get a game through auction. Now the question. Is it normal for people doing auctions to extend the end date twice? Is that allowed? Yes, their items, when I messaged after the 2nd extension seller seemed hostile and insulted me because of my ebay start date.

grlymax

Same. I put all the info in my description. If they can’t or don’t read that and send me a message. I immediately block them. I have better things to do with my time then deal with someone who wants to chit chat.
