I did it once, but I’m like 5’6” and 170. I had to put the butt end of the pipe against a wall and almost jump to get it started. 😂 Had 3 offsets at different dimensions. 2 small dogs and one small kink. They went in a wall and got 1 cat6 each. Looked good from my house!
130 and 5'6" had one JW who looked at me cross when i told him I couldn't bend anything larger than 1 inch by hand. I've "tried" 1 1/4 a couple of times on different jobs for a laugh though.
I’m about the same at 135. But I’m a bit taller at 5’10” so people often assume I’m heavier than I am. If I get put on 1 1/4” I am honest that it is going to take me forever and likely be rippled kinked and generally look like ass 😂 usually gets me put on something else without having to refuse the work
It’s a struggle for real. The most important thing I’ve learned in my 5 years of bending is to try and get majority of my bend in the first go. That’s easy with half in or 3/4 but every time you have to stop to finish it off, the shoe will move. With 1 1/4 it may take me 8 damn pulls to get there and it’s never pretty. So I just accept that now lol
the greenlee 1800 is close to a power bender, I ran one on a catwalk 118' in the air for a year in my apprentiship because it was faster than radio'ing down to the ground guy to make a bend with the 555 and roping it up by hand.
Trick is to figure out just how wrong the wrong the dial is. Though I did get one once that screamed like a banshee, crumpled the inside of the 90 and flattened it. Some how the wheels were both too tight and not tight enough.
The one I'm currently using is so out of wack if I bend one side of an offset at 15° and the other the same. It's completely open. That thing is fucked lol
Ya let me talk my shop into buying a triple nickel, getting a kid to load it up and drive it down to me in the shop truck, and then unload it and bring it up to the 3rd floor where I’m working when I could have just grabbed the hand bender and spent 5 minutes doing a bend that took an extra 20% effort
It's kind of funny how many people are complaining about hand bending 1 1/4 yet the sub is filled with people bitching about how lazy apprentices are these days. I'm the skinniest guy on the job but will bend a 90 no issue. It sucks sure but this job ain't a walk in the park.
Now I’m just an industrial factory electrician but everything we do is hand bent. If we have to go over 1 1/4 then we buy 90s and 45s and work around having to do anything fancy. My boss won’t by a bender.
The center of the bend is usually a nice universal marker regardless of pipe size.
If you're able to find "center" of a bend in an existing pipe that you're trying to run parallel with, finding out the angle of the bend and distance becomes much easier. The maths already done. Bonus points if they left light pencil markings.
Then you can adjust for shrink or distance between offsets and add that to your own measurements based off of whether your pipe is on the inside or outside of the run.
I don't know if this makes sense but hope it helps
I was gonna be a negative Nancy but I’d rather applause you for this. It’s pretty. My only question without sei g the starting point is why the “back pipes” fanned the furthest. Again. I can’t see what you saw
Congratulations, you are in the top 5% of electricians who give a shit, and have the time to make a thing of beauty. I am not one of those. It's always fucking go go go, next jobsite, next ticket, and hammer it out.
I wish I had to freedom to take my time to make everything beautiful like this.
Good job Sir, keep up the Great work.
All that 1 and a quarter by hand? You must be strong af! I know cuz I’m strong as fuck and looking at this make me tired haha. Looks freakin awesome though man! Nice work
Nice for a hand bend. But the voices in my head are screaming how it’s not symmetrical, they know it, i know it, the voices say they see it too. It’s the weekend so…. looks good to me.
What was your formula for starting with a slight offset to a more drastic one? Was it same spacing for each bend just adjusting for shrink? I always just use same degree of bend and adjust my first bend on the each pipe accordingly.
Yeah, I didn’t even get to use a mechanical bender until 10 years into the trade. All hand bending on the 1-1/4” up until then. Tendinitis gets the best of my left side now
I was hand bending 1 1/4” in my 20s. Never again. I don’t even want to think about my graveyard on my first job that I was bending it. Luckily most of it was on a roof and not visible, so I spent a lot of money on raintight couplings. Try tightening those on 1 1/4” without being perfectly straight.
I am the power bender at my company. All done by hand. 2in amd up and we do pre fabs sadly. Would be nice to have a power bender for 2in plus so not so many couplings. Looks good thou.
Obviously it looks great. But I think it would look better if the outer sides had the top pipe go to the inside and the bottom pipe go to the outside.
Beautiful bends.

1 1/4” by hand !?!?! Only in a dire emergency! That goes right to the 555.
I mean, that's kinda the trick to bend 1 1/4 easily
I was a 1st year who had just really learned to bend, so I just did what I had to do. 😂
I’m only 150 and it’s hell on me to bend that shit
Same here 150, I can do it but there’s always some rippling. Any slight movement of the shoe will cause it
130 and 5'6" had one JW who looked at me cross when i told him I couldn't bend anything larger than 1 inch by hand. I've "tried" 1 1/4 a couple of times on different jobs for a laugh though.

You can’t see it from your house. The internet don’t count
I had one small kink in my EMT... It was a nightmare... Wait... Wrong subreddit... 😁
You guys have power benders?
the greenlee 1800 is close to a power bender, I ran one on a catwalk 118' in the air for a year in my apprentiship because it was faster than radio'ing down to the ground guy to make a bend with the 555 and roping it up by hand.
Is there any other kind of bender? /s We live and die by the triple nickel! We mostly run rigid though
My shop runs cyclones. They are all pretty shit but they do the job and right or wrong they’re consistent.
I've never had any luck with a cyclone. Never consistent with bends.
What do you mean? I bend 1 1-4 all the time! As long as you have good pipe and good foot pressure it’s fine!
Well more power to you-I’ll stick with the 555. I’m too worn out to bend it by hand.
You have to be pretty fit to bend that all day. I’m old with a bad back, I’ll pass.
It's kind of funny how many people are complaining about hand bending 1 1/4 yet the sub is filled with people bitching about how lazy apprentices are these days. I'm the skinniest guy on the job but will bend a 90 no issue. It sucks sure but this job ain't a walk in the park.
I will not say I like it, but between that and breathing concrete dust or trying making a hole with a Hilti, I take the 1-1/4 any day.
Bending 1 1/4" is fun, and with well planned routes is not overly time consuming.
Now I’m just an industrial factory electrician but everything we do is hand bent. If we have to go over 1 1/4 then we buy 90s and 45s and work around having to do anything fancy. My boss won’t by a bender.
This is the way. Do a lot of parallel 3” for 600 amp injection mold presses and everything we use it pre bents. Works like a charm
Show me the way.
Looks good. I wouldn’t be able to actually do that. I can run it straight but bending it is where I get confused. Unless there’s one I can copy.
Copying something is harder lol
Not if you bend on center
What does that mean?
The center of the bend is usually a nice universal marker regardless of pipe size. If you're able to find "center" of a bend in an existing pipe that you're trying to run parallel with, finding out the angle of the bend and distance becomes much easier. The maths already done. Then you can adjust for shrink or distance between offsets and add that to your own measurements based off of whether your pipe is on the inside or outside of the run. I don't know if this makes sense but hope it helps
Oh you mean the apex of the existing bend. I though you meant you were measuring from the center of the pipe’s inside.
use a piece of copper wire as a mini guide
I use that little trick to visualize a bend for my apprentice.
This really helps with which way to bend ur box offset. Fucked up many fine bends with that last bend. Im still new
Trick: Box Offset = First bend towards the wall.
Use this all the time! 2nd year here
Dayum! That is a work of art!
Bro that fire alarm guy came behind you exactly like we all expected him to 😂
> like we all expected him to 😂😂😂😂
You do know that's a grid wire right? 😂
Holy shit I didn't even notice, fuckin hilarious
This person has some strong hands
I'm wet.
I’m hard
Sounds like you guys should fuck!
Would this produce electricity and if so would that required any specific permits?
Oi mate, you got a permit for that crotch lightnin'?
All for a dollar general
I just watched the new Dune movies. Teeth of the worms was my feeling. Looks good
Did you see the Dune “special” popcorn cup? Whoever made it was laughing their heads off. Both of the new Dune movies were great!
Have you seen the new Deadpool and Wolverine popcorn bucket? It's... a lot.
Damn if that doesn’t look beautiful
you... just gonna leave it like that? /j
Nice menorah
I barely have enough ass for 1” This is beautiful
I was gonna be a negative Nancy but I’d rather applause you for this. It’s pretty. My only question without sei g the starting point is why the “back pipes” fanned the furthest. Again. I can’t see what you saw
How's ur apprentice's back?
[Hank Hill choking up voice] "That's got danged beautiful."
🇺🇸🇨🇦💪
Looks amazing except for the 2nd pipe from the left!
there is always one of you fuckers, but good eye
Sweet
Wow that is impressive
Slick
Kinda like a shotgun. It's gotta good spread.
I'm having a funny feeling in my pants.
Gahdam boy thats awesome
That’s sexy
Hell yes brother 🔥🔥🔥
Nice job.
I’m impressed
Amazing work
Impressive considering the size! I'm just getting the hang of 3/4" EMT. 1" is still a struggle.
Congratulations, you are in the top 5% of electricians who give a shit, and have the time to make a thing of beauty. I am not one of those. Beautiful work though!
Did you drill a hole in the strut for that supporting all thread in the middle ? 11/10 conduit, PP hard now
I'm fat at 179 lbs, and I can barely bend 1". My fit weight is 155. How in the ever living fuck did you bend 1-1/4 with a hand bender?
My favorite part of this job. Looks great!👍
All that 1 and a quarter by hand? You must be strong af! I know cuz I’m strong as fuck and looking at this make me tired haha. Looks freakin awesome though man! Nice work
The one third from the left is off 1/28th an inch
2nd from left actually off
Nice for a hand bend. But the voices in my head are screaming how it’s not symmetrical, they know it, i know it, the voices say they see it too. It’s the weekend so…. looks good to me.
Are you trying to make me C\*m
This is art
Your conduit made me pregnant.
Good shit bro
That is amazing work my dude, killed it
That's a god damned pipe organ!!!
I had a coworker at my last job who would have a 1-1/4in bender in the truck just to look cool. (We didn’t use it once) lol
I want to see the bone pile.......
Using a 1 1/4” hand bender makes me feel like a midget
If ya squint it’s mint
OP can hand-bend 1 1/4 to within a degree....but cant line up a camera.
Lil pee just came outta me... sexy
What was your formula for starting with a slight offset to a more drastic one? Was it same spacing for each bend just adjusting for shrink? I always just use same degree of bend and adjust my first bend on the each pipe accordingly.
I’m impressed
Art work regardless. That's beautiful!
You vs the pipe work she tells you not to worry about
Now you’re showing off. Great stuff.
Yeah, I didn’t even get to use a mechanical bender until 10 years into the trade. All hand bending on the 1-1/4” up until then. Tendinitis gets the best of my left side now

How are your ribs feeling
How does it sound? If it is out of tune you have to start over.
🙌🏻
Man! That's sum artistry! I've pondered gettin into conduit work, but I'd run for tha hills, if I thought'a job required anything like THAT...
Nice use of pythagorean theorem
🤔 I saw this on Cleanwerk Only…
Looks fucking killer great work
Oh so sexy
Bullshit and it looks like shit.
God damn dude! That is niccccce
Beautiful!
Biblically accurate emt
This makes me so happy. Looks great. Regardless of hand bent or 555, it’s bang on.
Those are some nice pipes.
I am the power bender at my company. All done by hand. 2in amd up and we do pre fabs sadly. Would be nice to have a power bender for 2in plus so not so many couplings. Looks good thou.
Damn, that shits beautiful
🍪
That looks like some sci-fi shit
That is art...
I as a drywaller thank you for doing this vertical against the column
That’s friggin art right there
That’s what I call EMT porn 🤪
Hand bending 1" 1/4 woof
Obviously it looks great. But I think it would look better if the outer sides had the top pipe go to the inside and the bottom pipe go to the outside. Beautiful bends.
The kicks aren’t fanned to make it 10/10. But I’ll give it a 9/10. Much better than most people can do.
Try hand bending 1 inch rigid. That's good times.
