Rule 3 - Keep things on topic and keep subreddit quality up. This means no off-topic or low-effort posts and comments. Not all NFL news/facts are directly relevant to fantasy football. Use /r/NFL for that. Questions on basic league host site functionality, rules or settings, and league specific commissioner questions should be directed to the latest Simple Questions and League Issues thread. Covid really messed up scouting reports

WildWestZona

😂 well that’s a new one

2002 and 2007 were both pretty bad. However, I don’t think either were as hyped as 2021 was minus maybe the JaMarcus Russell hype from 2007. I feel like the draft and QB hype in particular has become much much larger. Not to say it hasn’t always existed, but I can’t recall any situation like trading three firsts for a Trey Lance type prospect. If anything, teams were selling the farm for RB prospects. Some noteworthy QBs with (round-overall) designation. Also, sorry, I’m on mobile so the formatting is wonky. 2002: David Carr (1-1) Joey Harrington (1-3) Patrick Ramsey (1-32) Josh McCown (3-81) David Gerrard (4-108) Rohan Davey (4-117) Shaun Hill - Undrafted 2007: JaMarcus Russell (1-1) Brady Quinn (1-22) Kevin Kolb (2-36) John Beck (2-4) Drew Stanton (2-43) Trent Edwards (3-92) Jordan Palmer (6-205) Tyler Thigpen (7-2017) Undrafted - Matt Moore

Neither of those two drafts even compare to 1,2,3,11, & 15 all in round 1. But you have a good take, you provided additional info, that’s what I’m talking about. Thanks mate.

Jonjoloe

Yeah, I’d largely agree that by pure draft capital (including the trade capital the 49ers wasted) the 2021 class is significantly worse. We’ll need to see how the careers of the 2021 class goes as backups/on new teams but they might be equally abysmal in terms of overall production too.

WildWestZona

Don’t get me wrong. I like Lawrence and he still has lots of potential. Also, Trey lance is interesting because people never talk about the fact that the 49ers system was NOT the right system for him. With that offense, you have to get the ball out of your hands extremely quick and with great accuracy. They run lots of slants and motions. Trey, if given a different offense, could still technically develop. Now, my money is on the opposite, I don’t think he will, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he did

The 2002 QBs weren't really that bad IMO. Mostly just a bunch of mediocre or below average QBs. Carr was a bust but also on a bad expansion team. Harrington was nothing special. Garrard and McCown were pretty good.

HashtagTJ

TLaw could still very much work out. Its only been what 3 seasons? Back in the day new QBs would sit for 1,2, or even 3 years to learn because it takes time to grow into an NFL QB a lot of the time

DBreezy69

He hasn't developed much, didn't in college either. Sure he was better than year 1 but that's because Urban Meyer was pure trash and Doug Pederson can actually run a team

WildWestZona

Exactly

WildWestZona

Nice try captain obvious, thanks for the most basic explanation about football 101. . And Lawrence, for a #1 pick, better be doing a lot more than he is. In fact, he actually has regressed. 😂 AND YOU NEVER EVEN ANSWERED THE OP QUESTION. Come on man

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

These men raced towards the bottom.

JonnyPoopnutz

Purdy really saved the 2022 draft from being complete garbage

WildWestZona

Still. No draft is worse than drafting bad QB’s at 1,3,5,11, & 25 of round 1. Sure there are drafts with tons of bad QB’s, but the point of the OP is clear.

the_chandler

Trevor Lawrence isn’t a bad QB.

WildWestZona

Still the worst draft, stick to the topic. You didn’t even answer the question. You want to talk about him not being bad, create a new OP
