šŸ‘‹WV native here. I grew up close to Tyler County. Spent the majority of my 20s in Morgantown. Hiked around the New River, spent a little bit of time in Beckley and Charleston. I still live in WV- I've gathered that \*maybe\* Deathclaw Island is comparable to where I am now considering the town has an island off of it. I had never played a Fallout game before this came out, but it being based in WV I HAD to check it out. I was floored in the beginning wandering around places I've actually been, very very cool. It's pretty spot on for the most part. There are spots in Morgantown in game that I knew exactly where I was. And the sounds of the forest region are my favorite sounds ever, I love just walking around that part of the map listening, it reminds me of childhood-- even though I still hear those same sounds in late summer/early fall here.

rite_of_truth

They have background music in West Virginia!? Damn, Texas blows!

Afb3212

Not from West Virginia. But I vacation there a lot. Itā€™s really cool imo. But Iā€™ve heard different from people that live there. From a 76 standpoint tho, itā€™s hilarious how accurate many of the locations are in game, all the way down to the furniture. For example, the asylum light in the build menu is an exact copy of the light fixtures from the entry hall of trans Allegheny.

ephebic

I grew up in Charleston and worked at 'Poseidon Plant WV-06'. I went to school at 'VTU'. I have done scientific field work in the Ash Heap (Logan area). I've hiked around Dolly Sods, Cranberry Glades, and New River Gorge. Having these locations in game made me want to play after the show dropped. I didn't play it initially at launch due to all the bad publicity.

Emergency-Evening530

I drove past the teapot everyday for a few years going to work

KlausVonLechland

Oh.. the Tea Pot was a real thing, not an extrapolated phantasmagoria of stereotypicalized American spirit cranked up to 11.. Now you make me worried about Ghoul rights.

BosnianBreakfast

Not West Virginia, but I have lived in Boston my whole life so it was cool seeing everything in Fallout 4

RovingScavver

I would actually *love* to hear about this. Having lived in Las Vegas for about two decades, I still love wandering through New Vegas and comparing the layout to my hometown. I've never been to West Virginia, so I don't really have a frame of reference besides all the real-life maps that I've Googled. Would definitely be more interesting to hear about it from actual residents. WEST VIRGINIANS WHERE YOU AT ^(y'know in relation to this sub not... West Virginia) **Later Edit:** Reading the comments being posted, and I am not disappointed.

Alarming-Meeting8804

I also lived in Vegas in the early 2000s and Iā€™m amazed at how well Obsidian nailed it. I always stay in Primm when I go through that way now.

AstonishingJ

Just remember dont wear blue or play with explosives, they still remember

Alarming-Meeting8804

Thatā€™s the one thing that stands out as incorrect to me the prison is just north of North Las Vegas, between NLV and the Racetrack and National Guard Armory

General-Card5535

Drove through last week and stopped by Hillybilly Hotdogs... fun stop after playing 76

sliproach

when i found out the pumpkin house is a real life thing...def have to go there someday...

ShapeWitty9121

I lived in WV from 96 to 2021 all over the state. I lived around Morgantown, Pleasant Valley, Clarksburg, Charleston, Greenbrier County, Beckley, Boone. The landmarks are spot on but it didn't feel like any of those places for me.

passttor-of-muppetz

Any idea what would have brought it home for you?

arcxiii

I live in the Shenandoah Valley and got married at the Big Meadows Lodge. Was super excited to get the new area!

CommanderUgly

My wife's family lives a mile from the real Camden Park.

tailsteethtalons

I currently live about 20 minutes from and work in Morgantown, and I grew up 5 minutes from Organ Cave (no cultists during my childhood, though). My senior prom was held at The Greenbrier (the wallpaper and carpeting in game is SPOT ON). I go to the asylum every year at least once. When this game came out, I was so excited. And I feel as though Bethesda did our state some justice. It's a beautiful state through and through. ā¤ļø

Redd_Love

OP this is a great post! Love reading these comments about players from WV.

Bellock18

My wife grew up around a lot of the in game areas and was super excited to see them do Camden Park and some other areas. She loves watching me play the game so she can match the areas that she grew up in and what the game does with them. Like Top of the World.

futurepast75

I live in Virginia Beach and go to Shenandoah National Park every few years. I've driven Skyline drive a few times. I've done the hike down and back up to Dark Hollow falls a few times. I was hoping to see Natural Tunnel and Natural Bridge in the game, maybe Luray Caverns. Also, there's a place down the mountain from Skyline that I think is called Cooters. Old gas station shop thing that has the car from Dukes of Hazard out front (or a replica of it). Also....Country Roads is actually about western Virginia....not West Virginia. Shenandoah barely touches WV at all. John Denver had never been to WV when he sang it. The writers were up around Maryland.

Leading-Number-1912

I spent several years living in Grafton just down the road from the Grafton high school. And I worked in Morgantown for a few years as well. The vault buildings do look just like some of the WVU buildings.

SuckerForNoirRobots

How often do they *really* do Grafton day?

Leading-Number-1912

Thatā€™s not really a thing. I think they must be extrapolating from the memorial day parade, which is still a very big deal every year.

Kaayak

I don't live there but my family is from the outskirts of Morgantown. It's cool to see the influences and blame all feral ghoul activity on my Aunt Leona.

Nu11u5

It just occurred to me that FO76's lighthouse is landlocked. Does this exist IRL, and what's it for?

copwifey

Yep! [Summersville Lake Lighthouse](https://wvtourism.com/lighthouse/amp/)

jayseventwo

I don't, but I learned last week that there is a real Fasnacht celebration at Helvetia, West Virginia. Below is a video link to it. [So I Experienced the Real Fasnacht Event at Helvetia West Virginia & Here's What Happened.. (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Evsy04Iukyw&t=104s)

MechanicalCyborg

Not this map, I just moved in the last year though and now am very close to the map from Fallout 4 ā˜ŗļø

miangus10

might be off map or excuse me, dlc but: my grandparents live in the tristate area of Wv KY OH and their land was a lot of forests and farm land. my cousins and i used to go into the woods and hunt for obsidian (just black glass from the iron furnaces) but it was buried in tree roots and dirt. I'll smile next time i harvest coal ore thanks to this memory thanks op. my mom is there right now visiting and I mentioned Appalachia and she said "I'M IN APPALACHIA" she has no service at the house unless she goes into town at mcdonalds

30dirtybirdies

I used to live just off map, across the rivers from Harperā€™s Ferry. I think I have visited every town on the map. The map isnā€™t accurate of course. But most of it is based on real places. The visuals of the game are in the ballpark. I love WV. Itā€™s a criminally under rated as a place, and the people that live there are the salt of the earth. I would love to move back east and get into some corner of WV and settle.

RattlinDrone

I live in the northern panhandle of WV. I am newish but at this point I have yet come across anything from my area. Most of it has been mid to southern WV. I think Tylor County is closest thing I have found to me and that is about 1.25 H drive from me.

Medtechnically

I'm originally from Moundsville just south of Wheeling. The Eastern Regional Penitentiary in the game looks like the Moundsville State Penitentiary although it's in the wrong place obviously. Then you have the Palace of Gold or Palace of the Winding Path as its known in game.

vaultboy1963

There was someone earlier in the year that went to the real Fasnacht and posted some really cool photos from Helvetia. There are some good vids on Youtube about it as well.

WestCoastBuckeye666

Game makes me want to visit, Iā€™m not far away in Columbus, Ohio

Difficult_Explorer85

Yea me too. Think that would be super cool walking around places where I shot up mutants and Ghouls lol

Difficult_Explorer85

How about people from the other Fallout areas Las Vegas, Boston, DC, where are you guys

Difficult_Explorer85

Love these comments! Keep them coming!!

ChronoMonkeyX

There was a video posted a while back of the Whitespring, and it is cool how accurate it is- even the carpet is straight from real life. There are photos of the outside with green shuttle vans right where they are in game.

Kendracu1a

Ohio native and my family is from KY and WV, when I was little I used to go to Camden park with my sisters when we'd visit family. During beta I got to visit Camden park with my sister in the game, brought a tear to my eye I won't lie. Also have visited the mothman museum and statue, it's all similar enough to feel nostalgic. The bridge next to the museum is the bridge to Ohio, always wave to myself in the game there šŸ˜‚
