They’re ok. Some of the original run are among the best cartoon episodes of all time, so it’s easy to unfairly compare a good show to one that was great with flashes of brilliance.

DoobCaptain

I was very disappointed. I’ve been obsessively watching this show since middle school. The dialogue for a lot of characters seemed very out of character in the newest season, particularly Leela.

jehoshaphat

I’ve said it before, realize that when new the old Futurama had commentary on current trends too. Wait 10 years to watch them and then they will have the nostalgia feel.

Jasper455

Yeah, hard to compare new eps to the ones we’ve seen dozens of times. If you don’t like them you can go full Simpsons and ignore em. If you want to see new adventures that are grounded in reality and completely off the wall, watch the new stuff.

katarr

I don’t mind the newer episodes, per se. But my “endless rewatch loop” only goes through “The Devil’s Have are Idle playthings.” before restarting, if that says anything about my preference.

lukeyellow

They're okay, but honestly the reboot seasons have never been great. I'm more hopeful for the next season since the reboot is out of the way. And I'm fine with some contemporary jokes and what not but not constant like in season 11. Hopefully things change

OnlyMyOpinions

The new season was good. It was the first time writing these characters and world in 10 years. I would expect them to have a little growing pains. There were even a couple episodes in the new season that would literally fit perfectly with the original run. It's not like newer Simpsons at all. The writers are still mostly the same with only 3 new writers. I think each era represents a vision of the future for that era. Fox era was the future through a 2000s lens. Comedy central was the future through a 2010s lens and Hulu is the future through 2020s lens. It makes sense to me. The show has to grow and change. If they don't then it will come across as them trying to be as good as it was but failing. It's quite impossible to have the same exact quality as the first 4-5 seasons. It was lightning in a bottle. While some episodes here and there could be just as good or even better than classic episodes as a whole the consistency is just not possible today. I say just enjoy watching new stories with these characters and be a little more open-minded. It's very clear to me that the creators and writers still care about the show and are having fun. You can pick your true ending and have the rest of the episodes be extra side adventures just to catch up on these characters. Pretend these are the adventures they had after the finale that we never got to see but we get to see now. Sorry for rambling lol I love this show and wanted to give my point of view on the matter!

lola_duck_questions

Honestly yeah , understandable:)

festeziooo

I’d agree that these and the Comedy Central era episodes didn’t largely recapture that same original magic of Futurama and certainly were overall lower quality but I think there are some all timers in both eras. I Know What You Did Next Xmas and All The Way Down are two of my favorite episodes in the entire series. Especially All The Way Down. Absolutely incredible. That one might be a top 10 for me.

Stucklikegluetomyfry

The Comedy Central run had some truly amazing episodes though, even if the entire run was very hit and miss and some truly awful episodes. I thought IKWYDLX and ATWD were just okay personally, but I'm feeling extremely optimistic about the second half of this season after reading the episode summaries.

sboyd1989

I don't bother with anything after the first 4 seasons. People can go on about nostalgia and giving it time but I think it's a very obvious dip in quality that just means none of the episodes after that season feel at all satisfying. The humour feels off. No subtlety to it, never catches you off guard. Feels too 'set up' only to have an anticlimax of a line. I keep expecting a shitty little ba-dum-tsss to remind me to laugh. I really wanted the last season to feel right. The last episode got close.

1track_mind

Definitely not the only one, bunch of you weirdos still come here.

JudgeFondle

I like certain episodes just fine. But honestly I think part of what they don’t have is something they could never have. I also started watching Futurama when I was young, I watched the original seasons as they were being released. And because of that they’ve always sat in different light for me. As much as I love certain episodes from the previous revival, I’ve never truly enjoyed watching them as much as those first few seasons. The show, myself, and how I watched the show had all changed.

sea621

Yeah, I tried again recently and it kinda bummed me out. There's less Sci fi with wacky technology, outlandish scenarios etc, and more just an exaggerated version of modern times. The show was always topical but it was a LOT more subtle. It doesn't have the same feeling at all.

OnlyMyOpinions

The streaming, crypto, Amazon and simulation episodes all had sci-fi elements. And the Amazon, Christmas and simulation episodes are some of the best episodes in the series imo. The Amazon episode really just feels nostalgic for some reason. The writing feels like a very early season episode minus the fry and Leela moving in part lol. It did the topical elements perfectly and made a story out of it instead of just being the story. It felt like one of the average fox episodes that are just cozy watches if that makes sense. There's definitely episodes in the new season that deserve praise and recognition.

PAUMiklo

The newest season was very hit or miss. It felt like they were writing episodes like it was a check list of the cultural issues that were big while they were gone. Sadly, all the nuance and subtlety in the humor was gone and it felt like your typical run of the mill show that tried to shoe horn a cause. Maybe now that they got this out of their system they will get back to what made Futurama what it was. When half of the season falls into the 'no desire to rewatch' category it was a bad one for me. Kudos to those who liked it or at least have convinced themselves they did but it was not for me. If I never see that stupid prince one again I will be okay with that.

Ejmct

No you’re right. It went downhill towards the end of the original run(s). There’s an odd good episode here and there and there some decent jokes even in the not so good episodes but as a general rule the last few seasons not as good as the earlier ones. It peaked at Parasites Lost and the Planet Amazonia one.

theschis

“This show’s been going downhill since season 3!”

violetmoon120

I'd say the jokes started to decline in season 5, but I'd guess it's because they were focusing their efforts on telling groundbreaking sci-fi stories. EDIT: season 5 in the original broadcast/Disney+ order

magicmurph

Don't care for the latest season at all. It's become the Simpsons. Each episode is about some contemporary issue going on in the real world, which Futurama isn't supposed to do, being set 1000 years in the future. It's a recipe for forgetability.

j1h15233

I don’t care much for anything past the original 5 season run. There are definitely some bright spots but it kind of lost the magic for me

BreakfastSquare9703

4 season run

OnlyMyOpinions

I've seen the magic in comedy central too. In fact I couldn't tell any difference between them in quality except for the actual video quality being HD and widescreen. When I was a kid I watched all of Futurama and it all felt the same. Except the first season bc that felt very different from the rest for some reason.

SuckerForNoirRobots

Seriously? Have you not seen all of the posts here bitching about the new season?

I’m not on here often:)

I’m actually still in school 😂

aggravatedempathy

There are plenty of "fans" who hated the newer seasons. You all won't shut up about it.

lola_duck_questions

In that case: you’re lumpy and you smell awful.

And you're ugly and your romantic partner if have one is unfulfilled and alienated.

ZummerzetZider

Nah they suck

eyehatecody

The Comedy Central run was mostly decent but I thought the Hulu season was completely unwatchable.

OnlyMyOpinions

I'm sorry but that feels a little ridiculous. I would only say 2 episodes this season fit that description. The COVID episode (yuck) and the anthology. The rest were ok ish to great. (Great being All The Way Down, a modern classic)
