Uh.... gacha games are probably not where you want to go for games not trying to get you to spend money. Honestly for games that aren't gacha but are still character collectors, I'd recommend Xenoblade Chronicles 2, or some of the Shin Megami Tensei games.

Honkai star rail is definitely worth your time
Pros :
-Good story & play style
-Enough contents to play
-great 3D graphics for gacha game
-The game doesn't need your money your just spend money if you want to collect every characters in game
-You can beat any contents at F2P level if you build the right characters
-The game need a lot of strategy & skill
-The game doesn't consume your time without satisfy you with good rewards (story & contents)
Cons :
-have power/energy system
-you need to invest in a lot of characters
-hard contents? (maybe some people like me find this as pros)
Every gacha game is a pay to win trap, unfortunately. Even the FtP friendly ones. If you want a live service game that's what you're going to get. They want your money.

Don't play a gacha game then. I'd suggest an SRPG, TRPG or traditional JRPG's. There are so many good ones out there, both old and even new

Go buy Fear and Hunger from steam, it has your required turn based stuff, and character collector through party recruiting, and not pay to win
