Top-Perspective2560

Ironically, itā€™s [survivorship bias](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias)

Dangerous-Can1509

Pete saw a crocodile in the Kelvin. But that was when he was injecting absinthe into his tongue.

PoundCorrect7681

My mate paul said he saw a shark but he was also on the wakky bakky at the time

vVerticality

He's no deed, he's just an Australian Salmon

Sea-Telephone-7682

Rat piss

[deleted]

Weā€™re not going to drink the Kelvin Bobby!

neganluvr

its the Kelvin no the Congo

[deleted]

I said I will not be paying for headphones.

nitehawkxplode

Came here to say this. One glug n they're stinte deid.

Shelleym71

Definitely

Tommygmail

its probably the heat, the warmer the water is, the less oxygen it can hold. and the lower the water, the warmer it will get, the water is very low and warm atm, so they probably suffocated.

Former_Print7043

I aint no fish Doctor but this looks like a clear case of salmon ella.

PoundCorrect7681

psycholinguist1

Salmon die after spawning. Any river that salmon spawn in will have dead salmon after they're done. It's not necessarily related to sewage.

prefabtrout

The issue with these ones is lack of rain, high water temps and quite often disease. they wont spawn until Sept/October. Atlantic Salmon don't necessarily die after spawning like their Pacific cousins

[deleted]

You have given the only correct reply here, lack of rain and high temps lower the available oxygen and increase the algae and chance of disease, once they get to a certain point they can't ascend any further without a good flow and congregate in pools, with some dying.

imnotpauleither

Mad shaggers!

Psychological_Party8

95% of them die after breeding I seen tons of dead ones when we went very late in the season any that are dying now haven't bred yet. Late August early sept they normally start the orgy

thinkofanamesara

"The data has alarmed fisheries experts and ecologists. Wild salmon and trout are a keystone species for many mammals and birds, and a plunging fish population harms other creatures such as otter, osprey and mergansers, damaging the wider ecosystem. Salmon are highly sensitive to water temperature and reduced water purity. Their decline is seen as unequivocal evidence that the climate crisis, pollution, fish farming and industrial activities are causing wider environmental harm." Article from 2022 https://www.dumptheguardian.com/environment/2022/jun/01/record-low-wild-salmon-catch-in-scotland-alarms-ecologists

thinkofanamesara

"Numbers of Atlantic salmon returning to Scotlandā€™s coast have declined since at least 1971 and fail to meet conservation targets. Approximately half of assessed stocks (95/193) are in poor conservation status. Rod catches of sea trout have declined over the past 20 years in just over 38% of stocks." https://marine.gov.scot/sma/assessment/salmon-and-sea-trout

Psychological_Party8

And I said they die after mating I never said anything else. I've fished (poached) for salmon for 20 years and still catch them, the numbers may be lower but I didn't argue that I answered a question. Yeah it's shit the pollution has caused a major decline but again I didn't argue that.

ManySleeplessNights

"Change da world. My final message. Goodbye."

Secret-Specialist-50

Na thatā€™s only in North America

[deleted]

>Salmon die after spawning Like newbie TF2 players.

Ram_1979

Junkie salmon.

-Sparkie_88-

Uhh i was swimming in the kelvin last night and have a terrible fever sweating and coughing...

devandroid99

Maybe you caught salmonella.

damnsmoothskins

His name is Sparkie. I'm also curious to know if he caught the salmon right enough.

weedith1

For real? I'd get a GP appointment if so, tell em that and ask to be checked for leptospirosis.

kenhutson

Cause the Kelvinā€™s full of rrrat piss.

weedith1

And the rest lol

DrowsyDrowsy

You SWAM in that?

[deleted]

Considering your name is ā€˜sparkieā€™ youā€™re not very bright are you?

Ok-Humor-613

Cos eh the trout. Hard trout. Trout wae knives.

ImplementOk8913

The alive ones move too quickly

PeteAH

Probably the temperature of the water is a factor given the recent heat - especially in shallower sections, or death after spawning.

OcramTheWeirdo

the ones that are alive are hiding

Any_Beginning_6705

Gary Mackay Steven landed on them and squashed them?

bagleface

Thats fishy

Ramsaythomson84

Pining for the fjords

Every_Imagination_7

Contact sepa, Scottish Environment Protection Agency if you see dead fish in a river.

Conveth

It's choked on the missing ring: behold it is the prophecy!

TacticalChalky

Two words: rat piss. The Kelvin's fulla rats. Where d'ye hink they piss? Wee rat toilets stationed along the banks eh the Kelvin? Naw. They piss IN the Kelvin. One glug a that n ye'll be stone deid.

[deleted]

ITS THE KELVIN NO THE CONGO!

Beemac161

Horrible to see aswell šŸ˜–

Existential_Fatalist

Tilt yur heed slightly and look at emā€™ fae a different perspective. The perspective being that theyā€™re only playing deed.

DWA1993

Iā€™ve only every seen trolleys or dogs (alive) in the kelvin. At least you saw something different I guess

Fine_Anteater3345

pollution / sewage / chemicals. there will be toxic micro plastics from people throwing non biodegradable waste into the river, contaminating the water

HereticLaserHaggis

Nah, the river is probably in the best state it's been in for 2 centuries. We used to just dump our waste directly into it.

DryFly1975

All of the above is terrible and does happen, but not in sufficient levels in the Kelvin to bring about a fish kill. Itā€™s down to lack of rain, heat and subsequent low oxygen levels. The Kelvin is actually in reasonable nick otherwise.

MansfromDaVinci

You used to see them jumping the wier on the walkway in autumn, if you just waited a minute you'd see at least one but the last few years i've not seen any :\_(

sailorjack94

If they are ragged and beaten up looking, every chance they are escapees from a farm. They try to get up a river but donā€™t usually make it because of the conditions in the nets.

Skooskah

All the wee

[deleted]

They smoke crack

Krafwerker

Itā€™s just resting

Hefty_Information_33

Jack and victor have been in shugs dingy again i see

PoundCorrect7681

taimeowowow

Eating good tonight šŸ˜‹

TriceratopsHorridus

Either pollution or the area is where the salmon spawn.

clydebuilt

Goldfish?

mikewilson2020

Life cycle stuff... it's all part of the plan

FilamentBurns

Cause all the live ones are at Sub Club

PlatformNo8576

Drunk from all the empty cans upstream

Agitated-Chance4320

That's no a dead salmon, looks like koi carp

PrawnTheMcJuicer

ā€œI see dead pĢ¶eĢ¶oĢ¶pĢ¶lĢ¶eĢ¶ salmonā€¦ā€

Traditional-Candy-21

must have been stabbed

Metallicamegadeth01

Because jack victor and winston went down it

Slippytoe

Nah I can see some rocks in there too, look.

BreathlessAlpaca

My theory is sewage leak due to flooding

Still_Tooth7428

Salmon can not breath fresh water after they have entered salt water.

Malky16R

Cole sear is that you?

Psychological_Party8

I've caught a 7 pounder in the Kelvin so the live ones keep going until they breed

ReluctantCycler

For same reason you only see dead badgers on the side of the motorway

SalmoSalar23

If you look at closely at their undersides - itā€™s likely ā€˜Red Skin Diseaseā€™ (RSD) has killed them. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/environment-agency-asks-anglers-to-be-vigilant-of-red-skin-disease-in-salmon Sadly, becoming more prevalent in Scottish rivers. Worth reporting to the local authority, OP.

BillKong

That's no a salmon, it's a goldfish
