I remember having it in high school for when we used the pc class. I bent it by accident whilst having it my backpack and throwing it around.
Had it for a couple of years then it suddenly disappeared.
Either way, it's a USB stick, it's inexpensive and in a way "fragile". It's always best practice to back the data up from time to time.
Probably a good call. He probably wouldn’t notice or read into some of the more subtle signs of motherboard failure in time to save everything, if it came to that. Better safe than sorry.
Might work, but it’s hurting your computer slowly if you continue to use it. Similarly, laptops with magports seemed to last longer, probably because the charger disconnected instead of getting bent and continuing to be used. My 2010 white MacBook still works fine, just doesn’t support much software. I use it when I need a wired internet connection for troubleshooting because it has more ports and is, well, portable.
lol so many downvotes. They just don’t understand how the computer feels. Surely it’s crying and thinking, just make a horse sit on me so I’ll die quicker! Stop forcing things into me!
Waterboarded, somehow left it in the oven, fell from a 10-20 meter roof on concrete, and fell off the roof of a speeding car. Most of these were on purpose, some not. Somehow still can read the files at decent speeds
It can still read files at a good speed because it uses solid state nand flash unlike a spinning hard drive so if you destroy everything but the chip then the chip will still work with original read and write speeds but if you destroy everything but the platters on a spinning hard drive then put those platters into another hard drive will most likely fail the reads and writes
Its actually not a problem. The chip will be fine and your only problem is contact, and as long as all contacts work and you dont bend it even more youre fine.
had to re sit my GCSE exam as I did it on a laptop then saved it onto a USB, went to give it to examiner to print and she spent 5 mins trying to jam this usb stick into a HDMI port, ended up scratching the contacts to fuck and corrupting the all of my 7 pages of work
There isn't anything too wrong with a flash drive being bent. If it works then the worst that can happen is usb pin falling inside the flash drive due to damaged fixations, which also isn't that scary. If it happens it's still easy to access the data.
These usb sticks are absolute chads, i once accidently left one in a washing machine, and i didnt notice untill the end of the cycle when it was sitting at the back, it still works to this day, back to the point, i recon that usb will last quite a while, but i would back up the data on it, just in case
I have a micro sd card which snapped but didn't completely come apart and it still reads. Would probably give an error if I tried to fill the entire storage cap.
Also have a micro usb cable that is really old that was bent during a vr session and still works
I had one that would bend 90 degrees, and then when I bent it back it would work fine because the contacts were still in place. Could go to like 45 degrees before it stops working
I had a rose gold micro USB cable that had the micro USB end bent due to one day that I dropped my phone while it was charging and it fell on the cable side, worked for two more years until it started having bad contact issues (funnily enough i replaced the cable with a identical one albeit black instead of pink and two years later it still works and still not bent). Before that one i had another micro USB cable that came with my phone at the time that i also managed to get the micro USB end bent but this one i don't remember how i got it bent
Forever probably. It will outlast any non-bent one he has ever owned. Every one I’ve had fail is pristine, physically. The ones that I beat the hell out of are the ones that I’ve been using for a decade.
To quote James Cann from “The Way of the Gun”;
“The only thing you can assume about a broken-down old man is that he is a survivor.”
This reminds me of the time the Apple Geniuses tried to tell me my USB port wasn’t bent.
Was there because of immediate signs of motherboard failure after my friend plugged something in to it before I could stop him. Had to go to the Microsoft store to get confirmation I was assessing the situation correctly. Geniuses couldn’t find the problem, not even after they solved the 30min issue of “how to connect to the network to run diagnostics” which showed a ton of errors that they interpreted as “it says nothing is wrong” 😂 I remember how once upon a time you had to actually be at least a little bit of a tech nerd to get that job…. Now you don’t even need to know there’s such thing as non-wireless internet.
Bent memo sticks are pretty common
It wont fall off its prob just bent on the soldiering of the port and board
The only thing thatl break it is if he bend it back and the soldering just snaps
At one point my English teacher will unplug it not carefully causing the solder connections to give way and break, my dad had a bent drive that failed when he unplugged it in a wrong way putting a little too much strain on the plug breaking it, I saved the data using a USB clamp.
So long as the 4 pins from the port make good contact with the PCB, the shape of the port is irrelevant.
I'm guessing it bent towards the pins. If it had bent the other direction they'd have probably snapped and it wouldn't work anymore.
I've repaired a bunch of these. Easy money if the traces aren't broken. And even then.
One time when I was drunk pretty early during COVID I accidently flipped my table with my monitors on them. Miraculously the only real damage was a shattered whisky bottle (I somehow managed to not step into these shards) and the HDMI cable of my second screen which is bent a little more than this USB and it still works to this day, only every few weeks/months I need to jiggle the cable a bit.
It's quite entertaining to see most of the replies from OP getting downvoted to oblivion. I guess I kind of get where they're coming from, OP does seem to be quite a bit of a show off with an ego that far exceeds his intelligence. But he's just a kid, so cut him some slack.
I had one bent at 45 degrees back from about 2005 to 2009. It was 2GB, and a transparent red such you could see the internal board. GOD, I miss that memory stick.
Had one bent like this. Worked just fine 'till I lost it.
Yeah, probably just bent the housing. People always overestimate the size of the actual flash chip

a logi mice dongle bent for 3y, bent back and working perfectly
[удалено]
We get it. It's bent lol it works tho
it’s probably just the pins bent, i had a usb wifi receiver that i opened a drawer onto once and bent it to almost 90° and worked fine
It's usually just the pins that attach to the usb plug that get bent. Really doesn't affect anything
I remember having it in high school for when we used the pc class. I bent it by accident whilst having it my backpack and throwing it around. My dad lost it once too and my headphones' USB area snapped in half
Isn't this sub so I can see things like a laptop that a horse sat on. Why am I looking at a slightly bent flash drive?

Why would we need a rest from the content we follow this sub for??
lol so many downvotes. They just don’t understand how the computer feels. Surely it’s crying and thinking, just make a horse sit on me so I’ll die quicker! Stop forcing things into me!
Eh, just resolder the usb port, type A has contacts so large even a novice can solder them

When it breaks

The connector on the flash drive, potato - potato
tomato-tomato
'oma'o
Ahh a fellow Brit
potato - tomato
Also I have serviced laptops and computers at my school for chump change and freebie grades
I use one of these at work with the same plastic casing and is also bent like this, works just fine for 2 years
The PCB just dislodged from the case. Where the fuck is this hardware gore?
I have the exact one. These things are fucking indestructible. Nokia 3310 style.
Well then, might outlast my final 8 weeks of school. What have you subjected yours to?

The fact is, the chip was scratched and burned...
Its actually not a problem. The chip will be fine and your only problem is contact, and as long as all contacts work and you dont bend it even more youre fine.

That is one dumb examiner, hopefully she got fired and you got extra mark considerations for that.
nope she was the head examiner for the entire school and i got nothing for it 🤣
OwO

It’s definitely not as bad as a bent charger or something actively supplying electricity but it’s still definitely not-good.
not going to fail unless more mechanical stress is applied (or the NAND dies because it reached the absolute maximum amount of writes)
Nothing will happen much if it still works. As long as the connections were not damaged but only bent everything is fine.
i have several bent usbs, they work fine. The usb part is made easier to break so you dont break the port
Good design for the USB standard, keeps expensive devices safe.
These usb sticks are absolute chads, i once accidently left one in a washing machine, and i didnt notice untill the end of the cycle when it was sitting at the back, it still works to this day, back to the point, i recon that usb will last quite a while, but i would back up the data on it, just in case

I had one like that till I fixed it it just needed a little bit of solder and works fine
Man... how much a Kingston Exodia 256GB costs where he live? lol
I had a wi-fi adapter that looked worse than that. It could last for years.
I have more than a few bent cable connectors and old bent USB drives, this isn't hardware gore bud
Robabely fine
I have one like this. It's an 8 gb Transcend that was bent for as long as I can remember having it, so, like 10 years. Used it today.
I had one that would bend 90 degrees, and then when I bent it back it would work fine because the contacts were still in place. Could go to like 45 degrees before it stops working
I give it 3 weeks

What a genius, lol XD
USB of Pisa
lol
Probably a long time
I have one that's way more bent, it's a Kodak 16 gb
I'll give it 5 more years
Bent memo sticks are pretty common It wont fall off its prob just bent on the soldiering of the port and board The only thing thatl break it is if he bend it back and the soldering just snaps
My wifi dongle bent like these work fine for 3 years
What makes you think it'll fail?

This is not hardware gore, this is like a hardware paper cut
What would be a hardware papercut with lemon in the wound and then what would be a hardware paper cut with lemon and salt in the wound?
It will be fine
This isnt hardware gore this is the equivalent of a hardware scratch

it Dosent'nt look like my keyboard
As long as the pins inside are still connected it’s fine.

Till you try to "bend" it back
I wouldn’t do that ever, just get the teaching resources off it, put it on another stick and bin the old stick if English head wants to do that.
I've been told some things work better if they have a bit of curve to them. Ymmv, of course.
I guess they are hell-bent on using it, huh
lol
If they don't bend it more it'll probably last.

It will work as long as it doesn’t bend a ton. I have a couple like this that go bad from read/writes long before they died for the bend.
It's easy to repair though. Take off the casing and solder jumpers from the USB socket pins back to the pads or nearest trace.
I had one bent at 45 degrees back from about 2005 to 2009. It was 2GB, and a transparent red such you could see the internal board. GOD, I miss that memory stick.
Those fuckes last forever man
When they straighten it
Mine still works well
Wonder how long until it falls
Doesn’t look very bent in this picture but where you are there looking down at it, it looks very very bent.
Well , use the holy technique of itworkslikethissowe’renottouchinganything
