So, well executed shitposting aside, What I don’t get is how most of the screen real-estate here is dedicated to the (touchscreen?) overhead panels. Like, you build this thing and use a 27” monitor as your main view screen?
That’s exactly what it is. It’s called a fixed training device (FTD) we use them at the airlines to practice flows and checklists and some autopilot work before moving to full motion sims for flight work. The screen up front doesn’t even show anything outside usually. It’s a screen where to can position the “plane” in different scenarios and places
I dunno why people have to misinterpret things, and then go be assholes about the thing they misinterpreted.
They clarified they meant THEY were the beginner and it was their first legit setup.
But pat yourself on the back, you really made fun of them, hopefully they won't come back, since that seems to be your intention by publicly ridiculing them for sharing their new setup, like EVERYONE else does.
Except apparently they used the wrong word, GET 'EM BOYS!
What a bunch of butt hurt.
That dudes setup was a stick, throttle, and pedals that basically weren't garbage. It was absolutely in the realm of "starter gear".
Jetseats, shakers/amps, MFDs, button boxes, cockpit frames are mid tier.
Force feedback stick/throttle pedals, motion platforms, 6dof are high end.
You all are just a bunch of jealous, petty bitches.
I mean those huge hydrolic driven 6dof motion rigs people build or buy for thousands of dollars that can rotate/lift/tilt the entire cockpit and occupant.
Go on Google/YouTube and look up "6dof motion simulator" to get an idea.
Damn, tell us how you really feel. I appreciate you standing up for them, we do need more people like you. However, this is just a joke post based on the consensus of that other post. I liked his setup, but I wouldn’t call it “starter gear”. What they shared was a respectably nice setup that likely didn’t break their bank. Hobby level for sure, but not starter.
I think a lot of people are getting hung up on this because most people would generally attribute a “starter” setup to just be a stick & maybe some petals.
Also, they made a post over a year ago with similar “starter gear”, so at this point when does it stop being starter gear?
Anyways, just poking fun here, no malice intended. Take a breath or two.
>Hobby level for sure, but not starter
94.847% of the stuff posted in this forum is "hobby" level, almost no one posts anything above "hobby level" stuff. What TM, VPC, VKB, WW offers (that gets posted here) is all "hobby level" gear and it can all be "starter" gear depending on your budget.
>most people would generally attribute a “starter” setup to just be a stick & maybe some petals
First, I'd say joystick/throttle are more common and recommended to start with, not joystick/pedals. But I still consider the stick/throttle/pedals to be the basic starter trifecta.
Second, the people banging on that guy was a more about price and money rather than what particular types of pieces he chose. That's almost always the central point in these "jokes" when someone makes the mistake of showing that they can do basic research and prioirtize value/resale rather than absolute cost when buying something, even at the beginning. I don't see people in other hobbies doing this anywhere near the point flight sim gear nerds tend to do (I've seen threads like OP go the same here, and the same "joke" threads right after multiple times).
Example, you don't see people bashing new firearms enthusiats for spending 600 to a 1k on a Glock, HK, or basic factory 1911 as their first pistol when they could have bought a Lorcin or Hi-point for much less.
It's almost always a better value to buy quality and sell, rather than buy junk with basically no resale, if you don't like something but people here like to clown on people for it. Some of us have been alive long enough to actually see the lesson of Sam Vime's boots in multiple hobbies.
>Also, they made a post over a year ago with similar “starter gear”, so at this point when does it stop being starter gear?
It stops being starter gear when they buy a bunch of stuff they didn't start with beyond stick/throttle/pedals.
>just poking fun here, no malice intended
Oh, me too, poking some fun at how people like to dog pile in what seems like jealously. I didn't mean to upset anyone, just some fun ribbing. Just a prank bro, you don't have to write paragraphs about it (:
>Take a breath or two.
Oh give me a break with the "u mad bro" garbage. It's fuckin' *lame*, no one here is actually mad about anything.
Temu you say… let me guess. They are 10mm You know I can’t ever find my 10mm sockets… damn it
April 1st on April 10th?..
No, it's just mocking these kind of posts
I see you went on the cheap. Hey, at least it's a beginning. Congrats!
We all had to start somewhere, no matter how humble.

Hype is real for beginner setups eh?
Who are you kidding? Do you honestly think any of us are going to belive you need a copilot chair?
Obviously a beginner needs a second chair for the flight trainer in case of emergency.
*Sad crashing noises*
Floggit material here, boys. Ferda
Straight up thought I had opened floggit lmao
As a beginner myself I need to get me one of these
Looks good for a first setup. Def has room for improvement
I'm crying. ROFL.
Not bad. It's a decent starter kit. Post you setup in a few years when it will start to be serious. Untill then, enjoy with what you have.
I see what you did there 🫡 This is totally goals for my son and I one day though!
Riiiiight. LMAO
Yeah....but those pedals....the wurst..
This is spare parts?
Begone with this cheap ass gear!!!111eleven Shame on you to even share it with us, pro-flight-simmers using pro-sim-setups!! ;)
I really like the beer cooler in the console between the seats.
Not bad but you’re definitely gonna want to upgrade when you get more serious
So if this is the beginner setup then your final setup would be a nuclear fusion powered quark-tech spacecraft cockpit.
Just get a VKB NXT and youre golden bro
everyone starts somewhere bro
So cool
For flight simulator?
cheaping out i see
thinking about getting one of these for my newborn.
I know this is a meme post but this doesn’t look like a great setup. It looks like a high end rig from the 90s
The overheads are too thin to be CRTs so it's probably a late 00s early 10s rig. Definitely a commercial one.
Hey as long as you can afford it
Was this part of the set from Blake's 7?
Shouldn’t the whole setup be on a huge monitor foundation? Where the hell is the ground!?
Nice bus stop
Dont you happen to have the STL files to share?
Not trying to be rude but not a fan of it lol.. wouldnt want that in my house.
Do you have a force sensing yoke? It seems like it’s bolted to the ground
I've been seeing lots of these beginner setups recently and I have to say.... this one is the most well thought out setup!
Has r/hotas been flogged?

They posted a completely different “beginner setup” a year ago, but yeah. Take the shit post as seriously as you want :)

If by 6DOF you mean head tracking, I consider that mid tier. But otherwise I agree.

Oh, got it. Yeah, thats deff high end then

idk man u sound mad
Not mad enough to make a whole new thread about it to keep banging on someone over something stupid, tho, so at least I got that going for me.
His username certainly checks out. Man's big mad.
Alrighty man, you take this very seriously… Noted & moving on with my life 🫡
Well this attitude ruins communities. Sure as hell doesn’t make me want to participate. All seems very juvenile to me.
Noted! Thanks for the feedback.
