My grandparents had a nook like this in the bedroom I would stay in at their house when I was little.
They had an antique writing desk there, and I would sit there and stare wistfully out the window pretending I was Anne of Green Gables š
Have you ever shared photos? If I could choose to be reincarnated or go back in time, I would choose to be a child with a cosy book nook like this haha. Itās all I would need.
I had a nook like this in my bedroom growing up. My grandpa made me a custom bench that fit in it perfectly against the window, & my grandma sewed me a cushion.
The bench had shelves beneath it for books & the top even lifted up to store items inside.
My grandpa was quite the craftsman and I miss him dearly. I think about him every time I am staying at my parents at look at my bench.
He was really amazing, he built his house himself from reading a book, helped his children & grandchildren build their houses, and as my grandma got older and was wheelchair bound we all helped him put an addition on his kitchen. He did all of his cabinets himself and built a good amount of the furniture in his house.
Thankfully my dad was able to spend a lot of time with him absorbing his knowledge and has much of the same talent. I really miss him (& my grandma) though - they were amazing and I'm really grateful to have known them.
Yes, I too would put a soft comfy chair there with a tall lamp for reading.
Translation: chair where I throw clothes that are not dirty enough to go in the hamper but I am too lazy to hang up right now. ie. that cardigan you took to a restaurant in case it was chilly.
Same I would hang macrame from the top so you have to enter like a little cave, put in a custom shelf and go to towns with cushions pillows throw blankets and fairy lights.
Perhaps one of those comfortable chairs that swivels 360 degrees so you can face the window and also face the room with a floor lamp nearby for evening reading.
Iād put a cozy arm chair with a quilt and a narrow side table to hold a book or two and a cuppa. Iād add an interesting floor lamp. I agree with painting it differently than the room to make it a little special space.
A chance to use some wallpaper!! Itās a tiny space, so OP wouldnāt have to have much. But if an adult is going to be using the room, I second your idea of an actual comfortable chair, over suggestions for a built in seat. Fun for a child, not so much for an older adult with aches & pains.
Turn it into a "feature" cove. Paint the ceiling & side walls a different color than the rest of the room, something pretty that will look glowy in sunlight, like a pale orange. The different color will emphasize the angles of the ceiling. Add a slender bookcase, a comfy chair, sheer, floaty curtains and it's a feature book cove.
I was Pagan for almost 30 years and that was my first thought too, lol. I'd put a really cool dresser like those curvy ones in there, and an altar with plants and crystals to catch the light.
This is the direction I was leaning inā¦ Like an adult ācalming corner,ā add some plants and books, and maybe hang a curtain in front thatās kept tires off to the side, but can be closed to create a really cozy, private sanctuary when needed/wanted
Everyone says bench but I know know how practical that is. It doesnāt look long enough to sit and stretch your legs out. Sitting against the window isnāt ideal in certain seasons.
I'd paint it dark blue, add glow in the dark stars to the ceiling, add a red velvet curtain and hang several Moroccan lamps in various sizes at different heights from the ceiling.
A window settee. Hang a planter on the wall with a pathos plant. You could line the walls with plant hangers and create a beautiful jungle.
Looks like wonderful lighting
I would add a window seat, or a built in bench, and have a good durable cushion made for that spot. Add some lighting in the dormers and voila, the most idyllic reading nook imaginable
Built in window seat with a plush seat and lots of pillows. Make it deep so you can sit comfortably with your legs up and read. And if you have pets it will be perfect sleeping spot for them.
Set up as a yoga/meditation area, Set up as an art corner, Buy the 3 shelves bookcase and put them in on the sides and a big beanbag chair and use it as a reading corner
I would replace the blinds with curtains and get one of those chest things you can sit on with seated cushions. Add two small shelves on the left and right walls, with room for a picture frame, maybe plant or two. Put a basket on the ground to hold some reading material - magazines likely. Fuzzy blanket somewhere within reach
Alternatively could do beanbags
Big cozy chair, little round rug, wall mounted bookshelf on one wall, art on the other. And put one of those window mounted bird feeders on the outside of the window so you get little visitors.
Epic cat climbing space. šø
"whispers* I can't let the feline masters hear me. A comfy chair with ottoman, a small table, a treasured lamp, and a small bookshelf is what would actually happen. Probably with a Japanese door curtain (search Etsy). I have to go now!
I would add a window seat, or a built in bench, and have a good durable cushion made for that spot. Add some lighting in the dormers and voila, the most idyllic reading nook imaginable
Mini couch or like a mini bed ? I donāt know what itās called . Or u could have your study table over there . Looks like a good place for some productive work.
A chair and small side table with books for reading/studying, possibly. Put a built in desk and turn it into a workspace with a view? Craft nook? Put built-in storage seating that can also double as toy bins? It seems like there are a few options. What do you most need? It can be turned into a space for that purpose. Oh the possibilities!
Edit: If it was my room, it would be my fairy princess hangout. šøš¼šš¦āØšš§
Depends on how much room you have. For me, I probably wouldn't use a book nook in my bedroom as I would read in my living room.
I would set up a vanity there. It seems silly, but getting ready is a calming routine for me. The lighting would be perfect, there are sockets for curlers etc, and enough room to make it comfortable and pretty. Then I would use the space every single day!
This is how my childhood room is! I originally had a little bench attached to the walls so I had like a little reading nook but then once I was older I put a desk there instead!
Thatās a pretty sweet little cave! I would put up a super nice curtain or tapestry, have a cozy chair or like beanbag, and then make it a private space for writing, art, reading, or spying on neighbors lolā¦
Would be cool to get some pastels and color on the walls, or put a black light up and trip out on how highlighter ink fluoresces. Lol when I was in high school I used to blaze it and do thatā¦ good times. I always dreamed of having a little nook like that!
Probably too complicated for what youāre
Asking but Iād make a bigger window somehow. But thatās obviously involving contractor/ construction unless youāre in that occupation or have the knowledge so maybe thatās not helpful lol
An ottoman or something similar, its storage and you can sit with your back to the light as you read. Maybe have one with a smooth base so you can slide it out for a seat as you look outside to dejectedly reenact rear window
Drawing/handsewing space, the natural light from the window plus a lamp and some moveable task lamps attached to the walls gives maximum flat project space plus the ability to create the right lighting conditions for each task, plus the walls provide a nice way to block visual distractions, but you could still have a cork board or two to pin reference materials to.
(Sorry, I've never been a get cozy with a book type, unless cozy means having it open beside you in the middle of a whirlwind of chaos while you refer back to it for instructions š)
Reading nook. Cushions and shelves and drapery. I guess if you aren't much of a reader then you wouldn't appreciate a space just for reading lol but a little cozy nook for a desk to stare out the window if reading isn't your jam.

Yes, and add wall sconces.
Aka a top tier hiding spot in hide-n-seek

It says a lot that he put so much care into the furniture so you could feel comfortable and expand your knowledge.
He was really amazing, he built his house himself from reading a book, helped his children & grandchildren build their houses, and as my grandma got older and was wheelchair bound we all helped him put an addition on his kitchen. This is exactly what I came here to say.
