I realize this reply from you is old but I need help. I have been unable to get logged into my Apple TV version 3 even with all the suggestions on Reddit because of the two factor authentication requirement. I tried adding the code to the end of my password with no success.
My question….(I have an hdmi to usb cable to connect the device to my windows laptop) is there a way to jailbreak it without Apple ID being connected?
Honestly 3rd gen and down are obsolete now I do not recommend getting one. The 4th gen is ok but since apple stops updating the old ones so much you might as well get a 5th 64gb brand new on Amazon is like 180$ I have one my self and it’s so worth it. I wanna say about 95% of the apps don’t work on 3rd gen and down and the 4th gen is very close to the day Apple stops supporting it
I have used ATV3 for 10 years. From the very beginning all I need from it is Airplay from iPad/iPhone that is much more convenient than any remote. This device is like simple kettle or microwave - you don’t need support from vendor
I tried to jailbreak it but my the blackb0x screen just shows the loading spinner and says please connect an apple tv. I was trying to get Kodi on it too so at least I could have youtube
The appleTV. I took it to Apple they said they couldn't do anything/it was obsolete and too old to replace. I took it back home plugged it in and it started working/no black screen as if it just reset itself.

I’m well aware of what you can jailbreak or not. Legacy Apple TV are useless cuz they use legacy chips. Newest ATV3 or ATV4k can’t be jailbroken and never will be.

No not going to happen. ATV development for jailbreak is useless to begin with. The amount of time needed is not worth it: when you can buy kodi or nvidia shield or any android box install any apps n enjoy it. Why fuss with atv it’s pointless - to install what? Apps? Plus newer atv doenst have USB port, so jb them is impossible without it.

I did it today, but unfortunately it's utterly useless. It runs Kodi 14.2 which doesn't allow you to do anything.

does not work well for hbo, netflix and not your own movies either (stuttering)

Gen 4 is the most compatible since 4K models need soldered components. Apparently tvOS 16.5 and 16.6 are exploitable.
